    A rare live performance of awesome three tracks from a great movie with tremendous music by James Newton Howard. This three-track title is very difficult for flutist especially. The special "owl" sound, in the beginning, is two ocarinas.
    "Main Titles" is very special due to film titles being completely built on the music. It's just fade in-out text with different speeds yet the music tells you everything you need and brings an awesome atmosphere full of chills and beats.
    "The Hand of Fate" is two-part track where the music is mainly from the end of the movie (don't worry, no spoilers there). Part 1 is mainly action and overcoming difficulties in the plot with a small time to breathe. Part 2 however is the "victory" track with great harmonies and just putting pleasant feeling and a feel of accomplishment to your face.
    It's really a tremendous music and in our opinion, one of the best of James Newton Howard.

      That's because of God, whose Holy Spirit inspired and resides in this music (even this not-perfect version). The film called "Signs" about signs from God for the characters in it also has signs of God's presence and love to offer us! How gorgeous, neat, inspiring and indeed beautiful is that? Nothing beats it - this is why we struggle on to live, this is why the world exists, this is the gate into the cosmic miracle that God's love is everywhere in it - empty as it may look...

      What you feel at that moment is the power of the Holy Spirit, telling us the truth about our universe - just as the film told Graham Hess the truth about his universe. How neat is it that a film about signs called Signs has a sign for us? Very! But the Holy Spirit is wondrous, beautiful, loveable, playful, magnificent, kind, cleansing, caring, warm, yet with a strength and power beyond our possibilities to understand. Amazingly, I speak from an experience that changed my life. This love overwhelms and takes one's breath away. Next time you hear and feel and see, please understand it for what it is...

The essence of this whole deal is that we have freedom of choice, and I would not ever wish to change that.

    • @Palafico3
      @Palafico3 Рік тому

      @@sidpheasant7585 I'm a huge fan of Lord of the Rings and Signs, and though I may be agnostic I can still acknowledge the sheer feeling and message of faith and what that truly means. This movie and its music remind me of what it means to have hope and a feeling that there are things far greater than us, that there is something looking out for us in the end. Love, connection, and above all - empathy: these will be the things that save us in the end.

    • @sidpheasant7585
      @sidpheasant7585 Рік тому

      @@Palafico3 Very nice that you "read" so many of those signs ... in "Signs", and therefore see that the boundary between life and art is pretty fluid - that could be a risk as well as a blessing, hence (in my view) the action of the Holy Spirit at all stages of the conveying process. The process of conveying from AI (hot topic this week) probably lacks that, as soulless. Obviously a lot of my online conversations are with atheists and agnostics, and typically (though not universally!) those interactions are on a high level, that can be a sourcevof joy. Obviously, Our Lord had similarly precious experiences with doubters and non-believers! He was less keen on and forgiving for religious fakers, hypocrites and zealots and those who were over-rigid, pompous and judgmental. I see clearly how many times since the return of Jesus to His Father that the Holy Spirit as new Paraclete has worked with atheists and agnostics - great British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams is the best example, though not the only one. However, your twin reference to Signs and LOTR is very telling. Of course, I admire the magnificent Jackson double-trilogy and Tolkien too, and once went to visit the latter's grave in Oxford, with my wife and my daughter (to whom I read the books out Lord TWICE!!). But Tolkien (whose life history bore some resemblance to that of Vaughan Williams, in fact) was far from being an atheist, yet he chose to create a world with magic, but no divine blessing or Saviour, and in essence no religion. Useful for his purposes, because then the good guys can kill orcs, etc., without compunction and mercy. In our world saved by Jesus, Aragon and co. would kneel to beseech the Lord to reach the stony heart of Sauron (as we true believers and followers now do with Putin - the comparison is not idle as the Ukrainians actually call their enemy orcs). So Middle Earth is not our Earth, though we do notice how Gandalf honours Bilbo/Frodo for showing mercy even to Gollum. The Hobbits are the most down-to-Earth, least-magical, most-modern species on Middle Earth (and the most obviously British), yet it is among them that we see the closest things to faith, mercy and divinity. It protects them from the darkness, atheists though they and all of Middle Earth are...

      Yes, this version is by no means perfect, yet it STILL carries out to us all the miracle that the Holy Spirit incorporated into this music as he came to James Newton Howard - working on a movie that M. Night Shyamalan wanted to use to try and give people renewed hope after 9/11. Just as the film "all makes sense" out of seemingly meaningless or trivial things; so we can make more sense out of the universe if we listen to this music. A wonderful thing!

      @@GabrieLight It is sweet that you read my earlier comments too. They come through me, but are not fully mine, and I would not be here writing (or even maybe alive?) had the Holy Spirit not shown His healing, cleansing, love and mercy when I was brought low, and begged for help. Only since that time have I seen and known more. Awareness grows in this way ... Just a few weeks ago I began to realise that - TRULY - I do NOT want anything much for myself from these posts (even though they do indeed give me joy and meaning in my life). I get no money in this way, and do not want any. I do not want power or fame (this is not my true name) or influence. All I want is to serve the Trinity. They deserve that from me, and I have joy in offering such service. If you offer your wonderful description here, but then go on to say it is not religious for you, then alll you are really saying is that the word "religious" is a tried, small and inadequate and potentially divisive one (which I rarely use to describe myself, even as an intellectual "short-cut"). I responded to your post because it showed wisdom and joy and insight. They are known to be gifts from the Holy Spirit. You are free to disagree... but don't stop listening to this great music! That would be the last thing I would want!!!

    I am not a music technician but i listen to soundtracks since the 70's and to my ear, the main title is VERY inspired by John Williams. I know many of you Think about Bernard Hermann on that one and maybe I have it all wrong but here is what I think: Three notes high tempo motive (generates anxiety), atonal violins(Same thing but with a touch of countryside or rustical sound which represents the father and his crisis of fate), deep menacing William-esque brass (The E.T. s !) and very dynamic harp partition (The little girl who has premonition and save her family which counterbalance the aggression of the ETs). Listening to that wonderful score, i cannot help but remember the Jaws theme in its structure. Now don't get me wrong, James Newton Howard is a tremendous composer. But I cannot help thinking about John Williams on that one.

    While maybe these performers are not quite able to master this immense task, TBH. the effect is stunning and beautiful anyway, so they can still be proud of their efforts. To be honest, though, they had a little help, as this music (like the film in which it features) carries in it God's loving and merciful Holy Spirit and its impact is therefore transcendent and offers us a glimpse beyond the curtain. Since the film from M Night Shyamalan was designed to help people try and get past the evil of 9/11, and since it tells the story of God's care for us that goes beyond anything that we can ever imagine, anyone who listens to the music, participates in the film experience, or plays the music, has their moment of encounter with the divine. That is a wonderful thing that can and must never be wasted. Listen, "see" (as Graham was told to do in the film) and make the necessary changes in your life...

    Hand of Fate part 1 sounds a bit to rushed! but its ok...its not James Newton Howard conducting his Orchestra. I like it though. great try!

    I love this score! JNH is a genius!
    I dont doubt these are great musicians, and I really enjoyed it. Its just that I hear several issues here, like the strings were overpowered for the entire performance, brass was too loud and I think they missed some notes, winds were a bit off too, and at some parts it felt very rushed.
    Maybe if dynamics were a bit more exaggerated it couldve made some issues less noticeable.
    What got me the most is that the strings were so overpowered, I mean, you could see at 0:40 that the first chair is trying his best to be heard and he just gets overpowered, then again at 1:24 strings are not that noticeable. Another big moment for strings was at 6:17 and again they got suffocated.
    Im sure hearing them in the theatre was awsome, and its probably my device that has bad speakers

    ugh...trombones were way to weak from 5:27 - 5:43...lacking in punch and snarl. Perhaps simply drowned out by the rest of the orchestra...

    6:23 - This is the premier Section - And It's DEAD!! The Brass should have been Workshopped All By Themselves on this section. This Section is all about Brass Glory, and That is Totally lost here.
    (Again,... this Section..of this Piece. To be clear.)
    Sheesh.
    And to the director... a Great Performance is Not About Head-Bouncing.
    If you want to move your audience, the Focus Must Be on the music.
    Ah-sheesh.
    One of the two best pieces EVER WRITTEN for film (The second is Part 2).. and it's... just not right.
    Again sheesh.
    And Furthermore... if I were you, I would have Contacted JNH, and Asked him if That Organ could be incorporated slightly.
    It doesn't matter that the flute part is difficult - She did a fine job no matter.
    Special note: The pianist should have been asked to play with more feel. He's too "by-the-book" in his solo. And during his alien parts with the flutes, etc - he should have been more strickative and clippy - In Fact, All the players playing Alien-3-notes should have rehearsed At Least Once All Together.
    And So The Strings - for their beautiful sweetening when they come in there in the middle section. They should EMERGE into the scene - Like Jesus and his Grace - and Clouds that flow along beautifully. They should Emerge.
    But definitely the brass. They should be virtually "putting their foot down" - "making a Grand Statement" - They should play those last statements like they are walking Triumphant into the winners stadium - the "Stadium of truth and justice" - literally they must Move Time, or Stop it, one. Those Grand passages they so eloquently have there at the end must speak VOLUMES of rightness and foundation.

      Agree with this sentiment entirely. The compositions themselves are marvelous and ambitious, but what makes the final piece as heard in the film so incredible was the session that JNH managed to get out of his orchestra after a few more attempts and guidance from the director. Admittedly some of it is very difficult to achieve without digital modification of certain instrument sections but the real problem with this live performance was as Fletcher in "Whiplash" put it: "rushing or dragging" and knowing the difference. This orchestra was definitely rushing, and judging by the conductor, being made to rush unnecessarily.
