@@kennethguide8564 Wow, thank you for this! 5/8/77 has been my go-to for Jack Straw and I hadn't heard this one. You can just feel the energy coming through! To have heard that live would have been pure immersive bliss. Take care my friend.
I havent heard this band till now..and a long time G. Dead fan.....and I got to say I am so impressed....The guitar player SHREDS...picks up many of Jerry's licks perfect, not to "rip him off" as I have read in comments, but to HONOR his greatness...Its not easy to step into Jerrrys shoes , and this guy does it perfectly...The keyboard player also shreds too....Bobs voice is a bit rough.....but...what can u say? , the guy has been singing his heart out on stages for the better part of his life..and still kicks ass......so ....I say ...GO FURTHER.......FOREVER......
In my opinion Furthur is executing incredible shows one after the other. Their setlists are way beyond anything I ever saw from GD ('87 - till Jerry Died) 100+ West Coast shows to go by. JF is on fire and you are a sucker for not checking these guys out!
Can't find anything on the Further New Year's Run at Bill Graham. Not even on the Gnomes Hobbits download page where they'd ordinarily have SOMETHING. I cannot wait to hear/view your forthcoming New Year's show, bro!
I like it most when they play with great guitarists who don't imitate Jerry's sound or phrasing - Larry Campbell and John Scofield being prime examples. But everyone has the right to their own taste, for sure ...

i would of been there if John was playing this was one of the best set of musicians together on earth. Bidenomics and money to tight now to do anything. just playing dead now. No more democrats i can take anymore of this insanity thanks
My guess is you weren't there when they were cooking on all cylinders in the 60's and 70's. BY the 80's Garcia was a hit or miss proposition (mostly misses as the years wore on). This is better than No More Saturday Night (my first thought when I heard he was gone), but better than them at there best, sorry.
Why do you complain about Jerry imitators? All these guys have unique talents, and a great song like this one just brings out the best in all of them. Stop living in the past, stop comparing this to the Dead in their prime, whenever that was. Appreciate this for what it is and rejoice!
I wasnt too fond of Larry Campbell.. It just didnt feel right sometimes when he played with Phil, too "electric" if you catch my drift. But i definately agree with the John Scofield, however im more of a Steve Kimock kind of guy. I think John K has an awesome authentic sound but therein lies the problem, its not his own.
Anastasio & Mayer are boring to me. I liked Kimock , then I preferred Barry Sless , however I must say John Kadlecik seems to do the best job ! it's too bad Kreutzmann won't play with him.
@@tomm7434 Word has it , Kreutzmann says that Kadlecik sounds too much like Jerry and that he feels like he's playing with Jerry and that bothers him somehow . Kreutzmann wrote in his book, "playing with Kadlecik is like playing with a fake Jerry."
well what the hell do you want bobby and phil to do? play with a rapper?....i know 20,000 people that have no problem coming out to a local festival to watch them play every yr. so watch a diff. video if you cant have fun ....
If Phil and Bob want to play with a professional Jerry Garcia imitator, that's certainly their right ... but that doesn't mean it's good or challenging musically.
Always love hearing Chimenti playing.
This version of Jack Straw kicks ass!
Love love love this! RIP Phil 😢
the only addiction I can't break is the Dead's music
Me too. And heroin ain’t that a bitch
omg me too. Still listening after 42 years roughly. You can keep your heron Pat. Gave all that shit up. Life is soooo much better!!!
Same buddy. Apple Music with the live albums is 🔥🔥🔥
There is and never will be any thing like them , sooooo Good ya just gotta revisit for that joy again and again .. timeless
they clearly benefit from being in the studio and hearing each other. this is insanely good
This is the best version of Jack straw I have ever heard...period.
just watched for the first time. holy shit, i almost agree
ryan401 it’s pretty damn good. Joe Russo’s drumming is the shit and really drives the song
It's good but come on, listen to THIS. archive.org/details/gd79-01-11.gatto.kempka.308.sbeok.shnf/gd79-01-11d2t01.shn

Anyone else get chills when Phil came in?
Anytime Phil sings I get chills. It is a very rare occasion and means you should get ready for some serious vibes.

From about 6:30 to 7:05 his guitar sounds like it's crying the notes out. Great song, you'll always be remembered Jerr Bear!

On archives maybe
wonder how many times bob's mustache got caught in that pop filter. hurts pretty good
He’s a cowboy he used to it ❤
Better than a lot of the Dead. Sorry to say it but so phenomenal.

Jerry loves
this band.
god that was great i wish he would have kept playing the same note at 7:00 on in to the next set when they kicked it off again

listen to THE DEAD 2009.. tell me what you think of bobbies voice then and now...
The best post Jerry band ever.....Russo is a locomotive....
Bobby was a little late on that last chord : P. Kidding aside, this an amazing performance from the whole band and an excellent recording!

Don't come down on me for this, but there are moments when kadlecik does jerry better than jerry.
Jerry was OG. We are building on his legacy. No one is better than anyone. Much love.
Gotta say, I miss fake Jerry
@vajraloka1 phish is lame.
