@@JasperLaneYes , the music and visuals are better than in the book 😂
At least in the show we have a civil war , în the books the greens are presented like demons with no redeming qualities ,but anything bad that the blacks are acuse is quicly dissmise with the same words " is very unlikly that she would've done that "
A civil war means that both sides have their half of right , we don't have this in the books

@@flavius5722 Sorry for the late reply. Busy as hell week
      Anyways on to your take.
First you are correct that the show makes book characters more sympathetic but sympathetic does not mean that a character is better. Lets take the biggest example, Alicent. Often looked at as the steryotipical evil stepmom she is a far cry in conjunction to her show counterpart which tries there best to make sure that almost nothing is Alicents fault.
The issue being that because of that Alicent loses any agency that she could have had and this was inevitable do to the story very much shifting away from here as the dance goes on. By trying to make her both sympathetic and the sole face of TG they take away any sort of entertainment but also her agency. Compare her to the likes of Cersie, who is a far less sympathetic character but I would say infinitely more engaging and interesting, plus aside from Alicent are the Greens more sympathetic?
Aegon sure as hell isn't, after all just look how he was handled in the first season, I swear the only reason we all like him now is because he has done almost a 180 in this second season.
Aemond as well has been made more sympathetic but I would also say that not enough has been done with him so far to really make me prefer him over his book counterpart, though that might change as soon as the next episode/ later half of this season.
Criston, don't even get me started on this guy. I think they had something good in the first season but the man really doesn't have any likable qualities at this point in the story.
Halena is both the same and so different. Still the most sympathetic character in both the books and show but I haaaaaaaaaate what the show has down with her. Making her see the future and act like Bran drives me up a wall. She was better and more relatable in the books.
Otto is probably the least sympathetic and changed from the books and is it any wonder that he is also the best character on the greens side?
I don't need to struggle between siding with the greens and blacks because no matter what you do at the end of the day I will likely side with Blacks just do to my modern morality. Though I would be extra critical that as much as they tried to make the Greens more sympathetic the do double duty for the Blacks when they didn't even need to. I just want to be entertained with consistent characters who are not brain dead and so far we have not been given that.
Also yes Mushroom talk about sex in the books, he did not however talk about sex nearly as much as what the show has presented to us.

I was watching some of you old videos, and i got to ask. Why did you stop rewriting joffrey

    • @JasperLane
      @JasperLane  Місяць тому

The honest reason is that continuing with that didn't feel like I was adding much or anything of value.
The original episode I still quite like even if it still has some of the more clunky aspects of my early attempts at YT. The issue is that Joffery is honestly a bigger force initially to what happens before he becomes king and then partially takes a back seat.
So the change of his character in later parts of the series has fewer ramifications to the story as a whole and so in a way isn't as interesting to dive into. It was fun to think of a way on how important events that Joffery is connected to would still happen such as the capture and death of Eddard stark.
Everything after that more so happens around him rather then him taking actions for things to happen, the big sole exception would probably be his attempted murder on Tyrion which is almost impossible to do in my eyes. The story was made with the sole vision of Joffery being a twat and so changing that makes future events harder to deal with.
Maybe I will come back to it and tackle it more in a fan fic style where I don't try to keep important story beats, but only time will tell.

I hate the butchering's of Sir Cristian Cole's character in the show, he went from being probably one of the most interesting Kingsguards in the books with a firm sense of honor who choose to join the greens due to his disgust of Rhenerah in trying to sleep with him and her having multiple bastards and pride in the rule of law being probably the second most important person in the green council to a winy loser who breaks his vows twice who is played with by both of the queens. Really hate what they done with him.

Nah, the show changes have been pretty good. Having the Valyrians be black plays well into the bastardardry of the blacks. Making Alicent and Rhaenyra younger, and friends, makes compelling drama that is far more interesting than the book.

@@nappa1413If the adaptation is bad it’s because the writers didn’t respect the source material? No. You can’t deal in absolutes with creating media. If the adaptation is good but still isn’t exactly true to the original then people make excuses. The only answer is that if something is written well, then why should we care if it’s from the original or if the showrunners created it?
