Experienced my first Derecho in Houston, Texas two months ago. After living 27 years In Florida and experiencing several Cat 3 to 5 hurricanes, it was intense but much weaker and shorter than a major hurricane.
I have this thing where even if it’s lightly sprinkling I keep my window barely cracked to order at a drive through my brain could simply not accept you left the window open for this
With winds that high (mph), I always park into the wind. The vehicles are designed for that strong & stronger wind blasts when facing it. Even if you're under a pavillion, parked sideways, you can still be blown over. I remember this storm but by the time it got to my house, it had dissipated.
Nice video. Shoulda went in, and got yourself a footlong chili cheese coney while you waited it out. Lol! I've been to that Love's several times over the years.
Great video! This derecho really got Kansas good. One thing though: Gas Station canopies are bad sheltering places. Window-wise, I leave that to the driver.
I have. Cedar rapids area, iowa Aug 10 2020. 140 mph straight-line winds that sustained for a solid hour. Destroyed everything. Makes this one look like nothing
Hey Thistle, do you have an email address we can use to contact you regarding this video? I'd love to discuss a license to use this if possible! Cheers, Felix
Brother, when the weather is like this, don't go out. It is very dangerous to stay outside, the weather will be heavy rain, wind and thunderstorm, that is, a storm is okay.
How come nothing is breaking or flying around. If you look across the road the trees aren't even moving. With that wind There should be trees snapping the banners should have flown are. This video looks fake.
You got a really good point about those trees.... That honestly confuses the crap out of me as well. However, I can assure you that this storm was not fake because I was in that very storm when it hit. I was at home watching from my living room window, seeing the trees violently sway with branches snapping off along with dumpsters being thrown around. The transformer even exploded right in front of me. I seriously thought this was a tornado. Spent the whole evening and night without power. If I recall correctly, this occurred on a Sunday night because I had to be at work the next morning. I do have a video on my phone that I took. I should upload it.
I have seen many of those awnings over the gas pumps slammed to the ground after big storms plus you are next to and above 10s of thousands of gallons of explosives! Find a better place next time.
I think if they build that area up like major cities there wouldn't be as many tornadoes and other storms because the area wouldn't be as open for a tornado to form. IDK I could be wrong
Nah, the heat is what it has to have and the addition of lots of concrete and asphalt cause a huge amount of heat to go up in comparison to fields and forests. I've flown small planes and when you fly over a highway or large parking lot the thermals almost make you lose control of the aircraft. The conditions to form tornados occurs high in the sky.
Nice way to ruin a car with all that water coming in, but maybe he don't care. He must be one of them with lots of sponsers that pay for the cars that he ruins, lol.
Cool video but to ruin the interior of your car by way of water damage is NOT worth the number of views for said video. Let alone, the wind driven rain would hurt hitting the skin. Not worth the wetness.😮
Whoever filmed this, thanks for sacrificing your interior so we could see this. Awesome!
I love truckstop storm videos they remind me when i use to stop just to watch the storms. Great video!

This was awesome footage of the power of this storm 🫣💨!!
I swear, you must have the BEST wind mic 🎙️ on the planet 🌬️!!!

No kidding! I wouldn't even think bout leavin my window tht far down ever
Love how this video opens with "Hurricane" trucking driving by. 😊

Interesting coincidence at 0:21 - tractor/trailer: "Hurricane."
I miss living in Hutchinson. Seen my share of big storms there
Nice video. Shoulda went in, and got yourself a footlong chili cheese coney while you waited it out. Lol!

Next visit for you is the cardiac doctor.

Don't think I'd park under a gas canopy, I've seen too many of those go down in storms.
WOW! Thanks for sharing!❤
My goodness! What a storm! I bet driving in one of these would indeed be a challenge!
Im just a 1/4 mile away from south hutch man that night was hell of a storm
Those are huge, big giant gust of wind and hail
Wow, that was intense! Can't believe those little truck stops flags held up under all that wind!!
They were made in China. That's why.
I'm a storm chaser (I also chased this storm) and I think it's absolutely insane that you had your window down, My brother in christ 💀💀💀😫
Yeah no kidding. With all the electronics in a car now days a little water can completely destroy it, maybe not right away but down the road.
What you taking about he's in a convertible lol
I don't recall scripture of Christ storm chasing.
@randymillhouse791 but he did tell a storm to literally stop though

The King James version of the Bible eliminated all the fun stuff.
Dude were u underneath a gas pump canopy!! U got lucky bud
That's what I was thinking, too! Those canopies tend to collapse in winds this strong!
Went through a devastating one August 10, 2020 here in Iowa !! Never want to again.
It's amazing how quickly things are in total darkness! Erie!
That was intense. I kept waiting for the poles to come down.
UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!
Never seen one like this , Crazy sustained wind !!
I have. Cedar rapids area, iowa Aug 10 2020. 140 mph straight-line winds that sustained for a solid hour. Destroyed everything. Makes this one look like nothing
wow. have you see any cow fly yet ?
Good video. Thanks.
Ah yes, central Kansas.
Hard to believe the power stayed on as long as it did...
Holy cow thats crazy.
Darn good power infrastructure in that area for it to last as long as it did!
Why were the truck drivers out in that weather??
I didn't know 45mph could move like that
Almost looks like a tornado
It is, instead of rotating, it's creates a straight line. Much longer.
Correction, that IS a Tornado lol
Looks like sustained winds in hurricane
This storm is crazy !
Great video bro
The trucks leaving ???
I'd much rather follow these type of videos because they're actually real. Thats intense and I hope everyone was okay!
Looks like winds are well over 100 mph.
We got it in Houston
We don't get any fo doose strong winds in Vegas it's really dry her
Just remember. Your life is more valuable than storm footage. Please be careful. Thank you.
Wow this is so awesome!
Wow ! Pray noone was out tent camping in that shower from ???

amazing!!!!
I mean, ok, I personally wouldn't roll down my window while the wind's blowing so hard it's actually raining upwards, but that's an option, I guess.
Looks like a tornado to me.
Two suns! Oh it's a couple street lights.

in weather like that you should have kept your window up all the way.

Nice video bro 😎 but keep fingers away from mic it tends to muffle the sound
wow thx
I don't understand why those truckers didn't wait till the storm calm
Down. The trucks could
Have been blown over.
Breezy afternoon......
Thunderstorm

Ok bubble wrap boy. 🤣

Omg
I hope I'm never in one

Bad move by the truckers.

Not smart.
