    I did this to my 2001 330d back in 2016 and it worked great....for 3 days. The springs were the same, but there is something very important that me and the guy in the video forgot about. There has to be a washer between the bottom part of the spring and the strut, becouse the spring will notch its self in to the plastic bit. Trust me. ;)

    Do attempt this on a 2005 330ci Convetible. You will break both your shock bases and deform both shock mount attachment points. I ordered from this link, and just attempted to install, the trunk would not close because the springs take up too much space even when fully compressed and damage will result at the attachment screwed on base as well as the trunk's metal attachment blades.
    You have been warned.

  • @alexramirez7826
    @alexramirez7826 4 роки тому +5

    Great idea!! unfortunately I tried this on a 2006 330Ci Conv. and it didn't work. Make sure how much room you have between to mount and the strut piston when compressed. for me it was about a 1/4 in so not enough room for the spring. looking for a shorter piston strut to make this work.

    I was hunting around for 316 stainless washers to complete this job because rust sucks, but I was going to have to order a box of 50 for $$. Rather than doing that, I poked around my local Home Depot and found nylon washers instead. You want SKU 595075, 5/16 in. You need two 3 packs in order to get 4 washers. They fit both the rod and the strut diameter perfectly.
    Right now, my trunk jumps up about 2 inches but doesn't open completely. I'll replace my struts next. If that doesn't do the job, I'll upgrade from blue springs to the next higher spring rate, red. Hopefully I don't have to go further to green which has an even higher spring rate.
    I'll report back once I have more info.

    I bought the springs. And as someone else has said in the comments it didn't work for me. I have an e46 m3. With the blue springs on there is zero room for them. So when they are fully compressed the boot will not close. Take them off and slowly close the boot and you will realize there is no room for them. Unfortunate cause this would have been a lovely touch. I'm sure it should have worked as we have the same assembly (or at least it looks the same)
