I did this to my 2001 330d back in 2016 and it worked great....for 3 days. The springs were the same, but there is something very important that me and the guy in the video forgot about. There has to be a washer between the bottom part of the spring and the strut, becouse the spring will notch its self in to the plastic bit. Trust me. ;)

Do attempt this on a 2005 330ci Convetible. You will break both your shock bases and deform both shock mount attachment points. I ordered from this link, and just attempted to install, the trunk would not close because the springs take up too much space even when fully compressed and damage will result at the attachment screwed on base as well as the trunk's metal attachment blades.
    You have been warned.

I was hunting around for 316 stainless washers to complete this job because rust sucks, but I was going to have to order a box of 50 for $$. Rather than doing that, I poked around my local Home Depot and found nylon washers instead. You want SKU 595075, 5/16 in. You need two 3 packs in order to get 4 washers. They fit both the rod and the strut diameter perfectly.
Right now, my trunk jumps up about 2 inches but doesn't open completely. I'll replace my struts next. If that doesn't do the job, I'll upgrade from blue springs to the next higher spring rate, red. Hopefully I don't have to go further to green which has an even higher spring rate.
I'll report back once I have more info.

Great idea!! unfortunately I tried this on a 2006 330Ci Conv. and it didn't work. Make sure how much room you have between to mount and the strut piston when compressed. for me it was about a 1/4 in so not enough room for the spring. looking for a shorter piston strut to make this work.

Just some info, the spring in the link is not exactly the spring that is in the video. after doing this I realized that my trunk wasn't closing. looking closer at the video it looks like the one from the link has one more "ring" than the one in the video. I did however shave a little bit off of the ball end linkage and it went in a little making it work. my struts are a bit old so it didn't shoot open but it props it up about 6 inches so you can see the trunk is open. This is fine with me though cuz I mainly just didn't like that it was never apparent if the trunk is open or closed and lifting it up isn't too big of a deal.
Edit: mine stopped popping up that little bit. I’ll update this when I get new struts.

I bought the springs. And as someone else has said in the comments it didn't work for me. I have an e46 m3. With the blue springs on there is zero room for them. So when they are fully compressed the boot will not close. Take them off and slowly close the boot and you will realize there is no room for them. Different color as well. I am willing to give you the benefit of doubt and maybe the website switched things up with the link or maybe it was the manufacturer. But they are clearly not the same spring or color. More "turns" in the one you have linked and the ones you have linked are dark navy blue not a regular blue like the ones you used. Just trying to give everyone a heads up before they blindly waste 20$ on these springs and another 30$ on new struts if they don't need them.

There is no way that given an an initial push with the spring that they will continue opening on their own. Do I need new struts even though they seem to be OK?
