you know what people seem to forget just how great phil collins has been, he was and still is an amazing performer with great stage presence, i just don't think he ever gets the credit he deserves. phil rocks
Totally agree, he is such an amazing vocalist, anyone that loves to sing notices how dificult is to sing like him. And, as everyone knows, one of the best drummers ever.
It's kind of sad in a way, that 99% of people will know Phil from his soft rock 80s stuff, instead of being one of the great prog and rock drummers and vocalists of all time.
I always remember the time they came to the Greek theater in Berkeley!! I think it was 1982 or 81. I always remember that first real love that I was with ❤️
Danylle Mohr That was extremely good of you. I am going through a similar situation with my Mother, who hasn't lots of time left, and is very ill. We're indigent, but, if I am fortunate enough to provide proper arrangements, this song will be kept in mime as well. I'm tearful in reading this, and hope that this finds you well.
What beautiful, beautiful music, it's almost transcendental. Genesis have been with me for almost 40 years now, I feel privileged & blessed that their music came into my life & truly sorry & depressed for those who through ignorance or choice miss out on what I consider to be the greatest British band of all time.
Deep Heat Greatest band ever, of the whole world. I was born in the 80's so I wasn't supposed to love them. I was 15 years old when listened to that old medley live thanks to my uncle. Still my favourite band. No one like them. Greetings from Spain!
"But now, now I've lost everything, I give to you my soul. The meaning of all that I believed before Escapes me in this world of none, no thing, no one" I'm a grown man for crying out loud but these lyrics and the emotion in Phil's performance almost reduces me to tears.
Like the dust that settles all around me, I must find a new home. The ways and holes that used to give me shelter, Are all as one to me now. But I, I would search everywhere Just to hear your call, And walk upon stranger roads than this one In a world I used to know before. I miss you more. Than the sun reflecting off my pillow, Bringing the warmth of new life. And the sounds that echoed all around me, I caught a glimpse of in the night. But now, now I've lost everything, I give to you my soul. The meaning of all that I believed before Escapes me in this world of none, no thing, no one. And I would search everywhere Just to hear your call, And walk upon stranger roads than this one In a world I used to know before. For now I've lost everything, I give to you my soul. The meaning of all that I believed before Escapes me in this world of none, I miss you more.
Amazing really. Lost a great singer and the guy that plays the drums happens to be Phil Collins :) Not only a great singer but he has charisma as well. Not many bands could look behind them and find a guy like that - they got lucky.
If you could retire a song this would be it; no one else should ever be allowed to sing Afterglow for no could put their heart and soul into this song as he does. This song belongs to Phil Collins.
I have loved this song since it came out, I was 16 and I just cried hearing it. Only great works of art really hit me hard. This is a great work of art thank you Tony Banks and all of Genesis. Yes, girls loved your music too.
You are so right.. Brings me to tears. I still remember a new years party in my basement (1985) me and all my underage friends, drunk and watching this on a VHS (yes VHS) cassette. Standing in front of the television screaming this song. Watching Phil and Chester play together brings back GREAT memories.... thank you for posting
I remember this tour like it was yesterday. Music that was scored into my brain for a lifetime. If you don't believe this was incredible live, just listen to the crowd response at the end. Not a soul there missed how important this music was.
Wow... I also saw Genesis a little over 2 years ago with a very close friend who died shortly after. My bud Steve was no longer able to cope with life, addiction and depression. He and I both loved this song.... I miss him. sorry for your loss....
I am classically trained in both the guitar and piano, I can laboriously read partitures. Folks, this is the truest symphonic rock music, imagine an orchestra playing this track.
I don't think there's one shot of Mike or Tony in here...Mike's bass playing at the end is stellar. Tony's orchestration makes the song. "Phil Phil Phil" everyone always cries, he'd have been nothing without them.
I love so many Genesis songs, most every one. But, Afterglow has always been one of my top favorites, from the time it came out. Wind and Wuthering is definitely my favorite Genesis album too. And I have personally played Afterglow in my own shows for many years. I love doing it for people who only are aware of the more mainstream, hit Genesis songs, to turn them on to a real Genesis classic!
I saw them at PPG in Pittsburgh on December 13th. I don't know the words to express how great they were. Phil is still incredible. I was amazed. Most awesome concert ever
This always reminds me of "Something" by The Beatles. Slow, melodic, catchy, and emotional, with lyrics that are simultaneously personal and universal. A perfect pop song
Like the dust that settles all around me, I must find a new home. The ways and holes that used to give me shelter, Are all as one to me now. But i, I would search everywhere Just to hear your call, And walk upon stranger roads than this one In a world I used to know before. I miss you more. Than the sun reflecting off my pillow Bringing the warmth of new life. And the sounds that echoed all around me, I caught a glimpse of in the night. But now, now Ive lost everything, I give to you my soul...
kills me every time, yet I always come back for more....there is no song that takes me thru it like this one, I hope like hell they play it at my funeral.
GENESIS is my ALL TIME favourite band and I love many. Phil is a brilliant drummer, or was, sadly he can't play any more , his vocals were unique and beautiful. I have seen them many times lives and when I am gone I tell our kids to play my Genesis Play list and drink wine.
GENESIS ... will be always in my heart , that s my feeling, Music can t generated a war, if Peter, if Collins, if Hackett , Banks or Rutherford, they all are GENESIS, one by one self is only a man, GENESIS is the GREATES BAND ... and with Phil is THE BAND... we thanks god for having Genesis after Peter left the band,,, thanks Phil , we love you and GENESIS !
Their level of performance here, is at a great peak. They were all still improvising & playing with such power & soul, including, of course, 28-yr-old Phil Collins’ unmatchable voice & character!
Los empecé a seguir desde el album Genesis (Mama). Los vi en París el año pasado. Ahora tengo toda su discografía, pero como decía previamente disfruto más los años previos a su mayor éxito comercial
This is one of 2 of my favorite performances of this song. The other is from the Turn it On Again tour. (Can't remember the location) The added emotion both vocally & facially elevates this incredibly beautiful and heart wrenching song. ⚘💖💔 No one delivered love songs better than Phil 🔥 #getphilvotedin
thre are several songs from the post Gabriel era... this is one of the best but ... Love Genesis still is a beautifull and real expresion to join with all us... Genesis fans in all "eras"... Wind and Wuthering 1976 ... what a marveluos album!
Saw them in concert last Saturday in Charlotte, NC. Phil's health might be so-so, but man he still has the vocal chops. Loved every second of it as much as I loved my first Genesis concert in 1983!
!980 was the year I first saw Genesis live and the last. Saw them at the Great Western Forum they blew me away and I've been a fan ever since. Never got to see Peter Gabriel and Genesis. One of my lifes regrets.
this song is not just a song for me , is actually the energy that hold the together for ever in that frame. A a time in my life when everything was like magic and i felt like i was walking on air and me and my lover soul will live in in that frame again until the time when all things will pass and only love will love forever .
Saw this tour at Capitol Theater in Passaic NJ. Second row, slightly stage right. Never forget, can't believe it been 44 years right about now. June or July, have to dig out the stub. Phil is great, among the great rocks drummers no doubt, amazing vocalist and general around one in a bunch of generations performer. The music he performed, created over decades, will be played until the electricity goes away.
Having followed and seen Genesis since those early days, I have to say that for me, they are better with Collins than Gabriel. This tour was brilliant. I went to the London concert. and saw a great band at the height of their powers, with a genius on the drums (vocals). If Gabriel hadn't left, we would have missed the flowering of his solo career. He remains a musical master. Imagine a world without 'In Your Eyes'
I agree I've been a fan for 30 years, they peaked with Trick of the tail, wind and wuthering, Duke, then apart from home by the sea went down hill, but they are still the greatest band ever, just above Pink Floyd, firth of fifth still makes me cry
Man it just dont get any better then this. Oh the days of The Musical Box and Wind & Wuthering & Trick of the Tale. Old Genesis is simply the greatest !
This tour was the 1st time I saw them live...their light show and live performance was one of the greatest I've ever witnessed and I've seen 1000's of performances!
you know what people seem to forget just how great phil collins has been, he was and still is an amazing performer with great stage presence, i just don't think he ever gets the credit he deserves. phil rocks
Totally agree, he is such an amazing vocalist, anyone that loves to sing notices how dificult is to sing like him. And, as everyone knows, one of the best drummers ever.
Indeed sir!
You are right on that. Collins gets blamed for everything....
Who cares about credit just love it and enjoy it and don’t worry about what anyone else thinks
It's kind of sad in a way, that 99% of people will know Phil from his soft rock 80s stuff, instead of being one of the great prog and rock drummers and vocalists of all time.
The best era of Genesis.. long gone, never to be forgotten
Sad. Sad AF and nobody will ever make music as good as the music made in that time
If this doesn’t bring a tear to your eye, nothing will.
I always remember the time they came to the Greek theater in Berkeley!! I think it was 1982 or 81. I always remember that first real love that I was with ❤️
I am imagining how a symphonic orchestra would play this most romantic song.
played this at my father funeral. His favorite song.
So touching
How I understand this...
The live version or the studio version?
Your father obviously had amazing taste in music :-)
People tend to overlook what a great songwriter Tony Banks was.
The quiet man of Genesis, proving that still water do indeed run deep.
You mean is?
He’s the best prog composer ever.
Tony Banks is a genius composer/songwriter. Sadly mostly underrated and unrecognized by the public. He’s a huge musical hero for me.
This my funeral song. I was there at this concert. God bless you Genesis. I'm 63 now. and still remember all the concerts. :)
I'd like Undertow, Burning Rope, and this song played at my funeral...
I was there as well. 16 years old, three rows back stage left
One of the most beautiful songs ever wrtten.
Agreed 🙌💖🔥

Juan V
Hola Juan!
They were amazing. I have listened to a LOT of music in my 55 years but they were something very special.
Greetings from the UK!
I couldn't agree with you MORE!
They ARE & forever shall be THEE greatest of all time, period.
No debate. No discussion. Just GENESIS. 💞
"But now, now I've lost everything,
I give to you my soul.
The meaning of all that I believed before
Escapes me in this world of none, no thing, no one"
I'm a grown man for crying out loud but these lyrics and the emotion in Phil's performance almost reduces me to tears.
Grateful for your post. Well said + I wholeheartedly agree!
As you said
One of the best Genesis tracks ever, and this has to be the best live version with the superb bass guitar.
AbSOUL utely
It's has a very "spiritual" sound.
Like the dust that settles all around me,
I must find a new home.
The ways and holes that used to give me shelter,
Are all as one to me now.
But I, I would search everywhere
Just to hear your call,
And walk upon stranger roads than this one
In a world I used to know before.
I miss you more.
Than the sun reflecting off my pillow,
Bringing the warmth of new life.
And the sounds that echoed all around me,
I caught a glimpse of in the night.
But now, now I've lost everything,
I give to you my soul.
The meaning of all that I believed before
Escapes me in this world of none, no thing, no one.
And I would search everywhere
Just to hear your call,
And walk upon stranger roads than this one
In a world I used to know before.
For now I've lost everything,
I give to you my soul.
The meaning of all that I believed before
Escapes me in this world of none,
I miss you more.
Amazing really. Lost a great singer and the guy that plays the drums happens to be Phil Collins :) Not only a great singer but he has charisma as well. Not many bands could look behind them and find a guy like that - they got lucky.
Chester Thompson à la batterie.
Phil Collins. The greatest singer of all time
If you could retire a song this would be it; no one else should ever be allowed to sing Afterglow for no could put their heart and soul into this song as he does. This song belongs to Phil Collins.
TOTALLY agree 🌟🔥👏
#getphilvotedin
I have loved this song since it came out, I was 16 and I just cried hearing it. Only great works of art really hit me hard. This is a great work of art thank you Tony Banks and all of Genesis. Yes, girls loved your music too.
I too love this song, good for you...
I first heard this song soon after i learned my brother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Its always meant a lot to me since..
Im so sorry
Am leukemia survivor myself
Lost my mother to cancer
As I watched this, it dawned on me that the opportunity to appreciate great music like this represents one of the best uses of the Internet.
The drum part at 4:00 always gets me
Me too🔥
You are so right.. Brings me to tears. I still remember a new years party in my basement (1985) me and all my underage friends, drunk and watching this on a VHS (yes VHS) cassette. Standing in front of the television screaming this song. Watching Phil and Chester play together brings back GREAT memories.... thank you for posting
William Vetter me too !!!! Same year same time same music
Basement parties...you rock!
I remember this tour like it was yesterday. Music that was scored into my brain for a lifetime. If you don't believe this was incredible live, just listen to the crowd response at the end. Not a soul there missed how important this music was.

STILL AWESOME AND EXCELLENT AFTER ALL THE YEARS' PASSSED. ONE OF THE GREATEATEST BANDS EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Thanks Brian.
Yes
I treasure this
Such beauty
Timeless
Never ever gets old. It’s now 2022 and nothing can touch it.
This song is all Tony Banks, the heart and soul of Genesis. It's sad that he gets overshadowed by the more commercial members of the band.
Phil Collins is a rock God! I LOVE this song soooooooooo much! God bless Tony Banks for writing it! Genesis Rules!
Yes😄

The "Seconds Out" version of "Afterglow" is the best version. I'm surprised that nobody has uploaded that yet.

Why did I have to be 6 years old when my favorite band was in their prime..?
Certainly one of the greatest talents of my lifetime. The depth of emotion in this song and performance is amazing.
Phil Colins was such an amazing vocalist
I saw them at PPG in Pittsburgh on December 13th. I don't know the words to express how great they were. Phil is still incredible. I was amazed. Most awesome concert ever

Genesis used to end with this song. People would leave the venue, literally in tears!
Yes Phil Collins - awesome 😎
The best genesis song ever
The best genesis song ever
GENESIS is my ALL TIME favourite band and I love many. Phil is a brilliant drummer, or was, sadly he can't play any more , his vocals were unique and beautiful. I have seen them many times lives and when I am gone I tell our kids to play my Genesis Play list and drink wine.
This is probably one of their best songs. Never fails to give me a shiver during the last chorus
GENESIS ... will be always in my heart , that s my feeling, Music can t generated a war, if Peter, if Collins, if Hackett , Banks or Rutherford, they all are GENESIS, one by one self is only a man, GENESIS is the GREATES BAND ... and with Phil is THE BAND... we thanks god for having Genesis after Peter left the band,,, thanks Phil , we love you and GENESIS !
If u were fortunate to see Genesis u live I'm sure u would agree with me it was one of the greatest evening's of your life time ..
music can never be as good as this :)
Hard to pick a favorite Genesis song, but if I had to this would be it.
One of Genesis best songs love it!!!
Their level of performance here, is at a great peak. They were all still improvising & playing with such power & soul, including, of course, 28-yr-old Phil Collins’ unmatchable voice & character!
Fantastic version of that song. thx
Genesis were so great. What a voice Collins had - fantastic.
So good. Saw them a couple weeks after this show
After all these years still one of my favorites. Genesis remains Top
I miss you more, my grandfather. :-(
Los empecé a seguir desde el album Genesis (Mama). Los vi en París el año pasado. Ahora tengo toda su discografía, pero como decía previamente disfruto más los años previos a su mayor éxito comercial
THIS WAS MY WEDDING MARCH IN 1985 AND YOUR OWN SPECIAL WAY WE WALKED OUT OF THE CHAPEL TO
I numeri uno....nessuno si può avvicinare ai Genesis!
This is one of 2 of my favorite performances of this song.
The other is from the Turn it On Again tour. (Can't remember the location)
The added emotion both vocally & facially elevates this incredibly beautiful and heart wrenching song. ⚘💖💔
No one delivered love songs better than Phil 🔥

That was absolutly outstanding, gives you a lump in your throat.
This song embrace you and give you a warm feeling like nothing else can do, In this world of nothing, thanks Genesis to exist
You are so right about that!!It doesn't get any better.
Fantastique groupe !!! MAGNIFIQUE musique !!!! Je ne m en lasse pas depuis 47 ans !!! Vu en 1978 à Clermont Ferrand , INOUBLIABLE
One of the best performances no doubt.
Fargin brilliant. Though I expect nothing less from this truly legendary band.
Saw them in concert last Saturday in Charlotte, NC.
Phil's health might be so-so, but man he still has the vocal chops. Loved every second of it as much as I loved my first Genesis concert in 1983!
Phil and the others are the GREATEST band...don't tell me anything else..
GENESIS
That fabulous final bass line was mixed so far back in the studio version I had a shock when I discovered it live.
@Brijones1968 I hear ya. I've not seen them live, never had the chance. But remains my all-time favorite band! Thank goodness for concert footage.
My dad was at the Garden and saw this tour and it blew his mind.
I love this!!! It speaks to me spiritually
I find the sadness of this almost overwhelming.
My all time favorite lyric;
I miss you more...
Sono passati quasi trent'anni, ma da allora di pezzi così ne sono stati scritti pochini...!!!!! Straordinari.....!!!!
Most beautiful love song ever!❤
this song can only be appreciated live, one of the best i have ever seen
!980 was the year I first saw Genesis live and the last. Saw them at the Great Western Forum they blew me away and I've been a fan ever since. Never got to see Peter Gabriel and Genesis. One of my lifes regrets.
Saw them at Liverpool on the tour. Bagged school with my mates and saw the greatest concert since Zep at Knebworth. Great days !
this song is not just a song for me , is actually the energy that hold the together for ever in that frame. A a time in my life when everything was like magic and i felt like i was walking on air and me and my lover soul will live in in that frame again until the time when all things will pass and only love will love forever .
Their BEST song, period!
envie de pleurer à chaque fois.. comme çà..

You said it... if you haven't seen it live you haven't lived... this is absolutely mind blowing tinglingly awesome ....
Saw this tour in Philly and Phil wore the same shirt lol. This and Ripples are my two very favorite Genesis works
I was there…right down the front. Slept out on the Strand for tickets..it was epic.
I saw them on this tour, in Ipswich - the live sound was fantastic
Having followed and seen Genesis since those early days, I have to say that for me, they are better with Collins than Gabriel.
This tour was brilliant. I went to the London concert. and saw a great band at the height of their powers, with a genius on the drums (vocals).
If Gabriel hadn't left, we would have missed the flowering of his solo career. He remains a musical master. Imagine a world without 'In Your Eyes'
BigRaddy, Collins is better than Gabriel any day and Collins proved time and time again he was better than Gabriel.
Pete himself has said they were better with Phil than with him.
After twenty some years now the lyrics are really reflecting my sorrows
I agree I've been a fan for 30 years, they peaked with Trick of the tail, wind and wuthering, Duke, then apart from home by the sea went down hill, but they are still the greatest band ever, just above Pink Floyd, firth of fifth still makes me cry
Sempre grandi, inarrivabili, grazie mrdodo
Brilliant, period. Best band, ever. I can't wait to see them again...finally! 15 years I've been waiting...it's about time!!! :)
Man it just dont get any better then this. Oh the days of The Musical Box and Wind & Wuthering & Trick of the Tale. Old Genesis is simply the greatest !
One of the favourite songs of my life - thx phil an crew 👍🏼
Probably the most saddest one everyone can get a tear drop from their eye of man
got to love the mellotron.
I love it but unfortunately there's no mellotron here... Tony Banks left it in late seventies, substituted by more updated keyboards.
@@nikondemo right bro, but the version on "Seconds out" is with mellotron, if I'm right.
@@funklover24 you're right too. Seconds Out is the end of en era, even for the mellotron :-)
Tony's using the Roland VP330 Vocoder here - it still sounds great though!
2021 i still listening this song
Saw this tour at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA and was blown away!
these lyrics speak to me on a spiritual level.
Gorgeous song. Wonderful.
This tour was the 1st time I saw them live...their light show and live performance was one of the greatest I've ever witnessed and I've seen 1000's of performances!
