I met Frank once years ago at the Arnold classic event in Ohio. Before I met him I was in line to meet Cung Lee, and once I got up to him I was completely star struck . Telling him how awesome I though he was and he completely blew me off, smug and arrogant. Frank witnessed this from across the way and saw my devistation . He brought me over to his booth to the head of his line probably 20 or 30 fans in front of me! He welcomed me, and spoke to me for about 10mins. He was humble and inspiring and I will never forget that moment! Thank you Frank!
I thought Cung Le was cool with fans?
@@nikolabezstrashni9337 Could've been a bad day but don't make it right.
Hurt people either feel deep love for other hurt people or they hurt other people. He’s one of the good ones.
I met him and took a picture with him back in 2013 at the Santa Barbara zoo. Coolest fuckin dude ever.
Frank seems like an honestly dude glad to hear it, pity about Lee though.
The title of this sucks because this is not humiliating at all. Every great man has a backstory like this and it’s usually tough and emotional. The fact that Frank can show empathy look back and tell this story now is truly awesome. Hearing this made my day.💪
I think it makes sense when you stop and think of how humiliated it made him feel.🤔
I emailed Frank a number of years ago and spoke to him about my older brother and I having not spoken to each other for many years and how my brother hated me even though I had been nothing but good to him. Frank took the time out of his busy schedule to respond to me and advise me on what he thought was the right thing for me to do. I will always be grateful for that. He's still one of my favorite fighters today.
This isnt humiliating, this is inspiring.
Had to get you to click sooooo
Inspiring to you but to him it was humiliating as a child no kid should go thru any mental or physical abuse
You said it!
@@dr21011 click AND comment with a hardline moral stance, its like crack for online content consumers.
I try to read a little deeper into the words being used and the sentence structure.
Humiliate means to embarrass but the etymology of the word means to humble, and hearing what he went though and knowing what he became is powerful enough to make me feel humbled.
Similar childhood relationship with my steparent, essentially tortured. I overcame the abuse, became successful, and most importantly did not continue the pattern of abuse with my own kids
I understand completely. Not continuing the abuse is the biggest win my friend!
Much respect
I salute you brother, I salute you.
Thanks guys.
I'd like to add, that all of my beatings/abuse was done secretly, when my mom was at work and she had no idea.
My mom was a very affectionate and loving mom, and when these things came to light and the abuse was shifting to open psychological abuse we left and moved far away.
Since my name is public here, I owe it to Mom to give the complete account.
Her love is probably what kept me from self destruction later in life, much like Mr. Shamrock Sr. did here.
One persons love and care can transform a life.

This isn't a humiliating secret. This is a painful past. This man is exceptional. He is unlike most of us. He should be respected and admired. He should be listened to. We should learn from him but also make sure no child has to have the life he endured.

@@Philo-ul2uq Whoosh!!
Some of the greatest battles will be fought within the silent chambers of your own soul.
Well said
I get what youre saying, the premise relevant to internal war being the greatest battles we face is correct, but the soul is not a chamber where struggle exists. It is not confined to the low densities of the mind or time. It is what relieves the mind and body of the chambers you allude to.
The soul is the essence of creation activated via enlightenment.
When the soul is deactivated and the pineal gland is closed, the weight of internal shadows increases. The deactivation of the soul takes place after a dwelling mind experiences hardship with a linear view of that hardship. A mind that cannot see beyond the pain it is experiencing. A mind and heart tarnished without a higher conscious realization (realizing the positives that come even from tragedy for example), a mind and heart consumed by darkness without an understood lesson or light ignited by the experience.
The soul is the light found in the darkness, but it is not limited to that darkness, for the darkness itself is really just an illusory form of light, absent of the 3D visual, used to create a spark in the dormant, deactivated being.
These hardships and pains forced from trauma detach the mind from faith, detach the mind from the infinite source that exists beyond this 3 dimensional experience.
That source is the soul essence. Where no battle exists. Just eternal life, waiting in the void to be activated, waiting to be realized, with trust, gratitude, vulnerability, acceptance, forgiveness, faith, and an enlightened perception that supersedes the struggles a mind experiences in this temporary form of confinement we call human life.
Conclusion: The soul unlocks the silent chambers and provides healing. It is not a confinement, a dwelling, nor a place of struggle. It is a source of creation activated via the pineal gland when the 13 metaphysical and physical Chakras are nourished and aligned.
Sorry for the monolog. Just thought I'd share.
@Fred Forbes that’s why they say don’t ever grow up 🙌
@Fred Forbes totally. We can learn a lot from our children, perhaps more than we can learn from anyone.
No truer words have ever been spoken.
Having kids of my own, I can't comprehend how anyone can treat their children that way
Honestly
No empathy, compassion or patience.
Same, even those who are not my kids, I couldn’t imagine throwing someone away. No compassion and empathy, things like this is where most 6 o’clock news stories come from.

I met Frank and got a photo together with him so many years ago and here I was in awe of him, then he grabs my biceps and compliments me and I was in shock, I’m here meeting a legend and he compliments me and I never ever forgot the power his words made on me
When he was getting palm strikes to the face and laughing like a crazy man, i knew instantly this man would not give up to save his life
This is really close to home for me, it hurts my heart to see Frank Shamrock, such a physicaly tough man cry so hard. I’m glad he became the man he is today. Props to him for telling his story.
Crying is a sign of strength.
Didn't know I had so much in common with Frank Shamrock.
It doesn't hurt me at all, he's human, humans cry and laugh.
Yeah he is a real tough guy. Ties his dog to a truck at an airport and abandons it. He is no man that is for sure. A crybaby asshole more like it.
I'm retiring in a few months after 36 years working in child welfare. I had thousands of ER investigations in LA County. Seeing Frank relive his experiences brought back memories for me of the horrors I saw, the fear and pain children suffer...It was a hard job, and it still affects me. Frank is brave and courageous to share this history. All children deserve to be protected and loved. Every single child. God bless Frank and all victims of child abuse.
To see a world champion like Frank Shamrock breakdown like this is really sad his childhood experience was horrible to say the least and i'm glad he is finally able to open up and deal wit his trauma, it takes a strong willed person to want to face their own trauma and deal with it head on hes still the champ!
Dude is a straight up hero in my eyes! This almost had me in 😭 tears. He fought monsters in and out of the cage. True warrior!
You got played.
A dude that should be in the ufc hall of fame
100%!
1000%
Definitely he helped form the modern era of MMA and he was a champion in a few different MMA organisation's, true champ and LEGEND
If you would have asked me I would have said he was in the HOF.
dude fought 5 times in two years in the ufc, yeah he won all of his fights. Each fight was a title fight. And he won all by stoppage. Pretty fair argument.
To hear of a young kid impulsively turning to a substance for psychological relief from their life is heart breaking. How some parents can be so cruel I will never know.
Welcome to the life of MANY fighters. I cant count how many dudes I've trained with that have these issues. Including myself. It's hard man. A lot of us fight because we just arent good at much else, and everyone has told us were dumb or worthless or both our whole lives. So we end up being fighters.
Nine times out of ten they were bullied by their parents and then they end up bullying or abusing their own kids.
@@lowlowseesee definitely not 9 times out of 10 but it's pretty common that they get abused. That also doesnt mean they're gonna just go beat their kids. More than not it makes them do anything but beat their kids. Turning them into an equal tyrant on the entitled side. I've been training and fighting since I was 7. I have seen it in a ton of gyms and in the world I deal with. Its anecdotal information but still seems to go more towards spoiling and never telling their kids no, rather than beating them. Also many fighters have mental/emotional issues they never talk about. But show mad symptoms.
@@lowlowseesee you're talking about people like Frank Shamrock's dad I take it? As in he was probably abused to be torturing Frank like he was!? Yeah could be true, beatings were more culturally accepted as you go back in time too I suppose.
Frank was born in 1972. The fact he got given up by his parents shows they had a hard time living up to the job of parenting. Seem there was too much fight in Frank for his dad's liking, I bet in the end though he seen Frank's success and came to know what a heartless coward he had been!
@@tyshred9251 I get you man. I guess those incredibly rough situations kids like Shamrock, and yourself got put in helped develop the fortitude and toughness that created the champion or the fighter you became?
I suppose that's why the 'rags to riches' story happens so much in fighting sports and why you are seeing it happen more and more with the evolution of MMA. I thought a long time aho that countries where societies are tougher would end up doing well in MMA once they got the provision and access. I think you see it now. I imagine thousands of kids in Africa that are dreaming of being the next Francis Ngannou nowadays. Kids, men and women with rough or tough lives from all over the world have more hope now through prize fighting than ever before. Good days for MMA but it's also all thanks to thr early pioneers such as the Shamrock brothers and El Guapo! Those guys are truly legends of the sport.
Met him at a kickboxing event in San Jose many years ago. After the event, I was hanging w/friends waiting for my ride. Frank walked past, but stopped and shook my hand like we were old pals, remembered my name. Class act. Cool dude. Humble.

Wow, I’m literally in tears. I’ve been contemplating suicide and this video literally gave me faith. Thank you Frank.
Never give up. Life is a gift and a blessing. A life of pain is better than no life at all. Never give up.

Having a father isn't always the greatest thing, my father was a heavy drinker and beat me every chance he got, put me down constantly, basically hated me, broke my spirit. I went through life doubting myself, I always think about how much better I might've been if I didn't have a father

Trauma and serious mental health issues are an extremely common shared experience by fighters of all disciplines. I got into MMA to cope with trauma, and my teammates have helped me exponentially with finding healthy ways to deal with the stress I face and the damage that has been done to me. Fighters are genuinely kind that way. They understand more than anyone that what hurts inside is always going to hurt much more than what anyone else could ever do to you physically. I’m so genuinely thankful for them because of that.

I never heard Frank's story. I always respected him, but Wow! My respect for him went up 1000%. Bless you Frank. Thanks for the inspiration. Sincerely.
If there is a Giant in front of you that means there is a David in you! There is a stone for every Giant!
Didn't expect to be choked up this early in the morning. Such cruelty. Frank was one of the first era of complete mma fighters. Surpassed his brother Ken in skill set. Seems like a great guy.
It's hard not to cry.
I once met Frank, he was the nicest dude. I would never imagine the nightmare beginning to his life. He shined a warm light.
There has been a growing philosophy out there, over the past four or five decades, that says that children don't need strong father figures in their lives. This story and tens of millions of other stories prove them wrong.
Good Fathers Matter!
The system we live in does everything to break men so the system can be everybody’s daddy.
Frank Shamrock GREAT MAN HE FIGHT AGAINST DRUG ADDICTION.
Wow, I'm not a religious man...but God bless you Frank - you've a huge heart. Respect.
My heart hurts for Frank . What a neat guy to overcome a horrible experience. What a champion happy for you to overcome
You're dreams were bigger than your addiction. What an inspiration to our lost children!❤
I cant help but to ball my eyes out while feeling Shamrocks pain, truly you are a inspiring role model.
I’m sorry you had to go through that Frank. You’re a WARRIOR. Not just because of your fighting record; but because you survived that emotionally and made something of yourself!
I too was in the Shamrock home. I was brought in by Bob and Ken from Juvenile Hall in 91 at the age of 16. Bob was opening a new home in Lockeford Ca. Frank was in prison at the time, the house rule was always accept his collect calls. I remember tagging along with Bob on Costco runs to get stuff to send Frank in care packages, rolls of chew is the only thing I really remember. I spent a lot of time with Ken because I only went to school for a cpl of hours a day and Ken would pick me up from school and we would go to the health club and work out until the other kids got out of school. Bob taught me to be a man and be respectful, he wore this huge pinky ring that he would thump your forehead with if you swore in front of a lady or didn't hold the door open. Ken taught me to quit bringing so much attention to myself. He would always mess with me and I thought it was cuz he didn't like me, but 1 day he told me it was because I hold a red flag up that says mess with me I am easy to work up. Since that day I have been able to recognize when somebody is just trying to rile me up and I am able to laugh it off and walk away. I spent hours and hours rolling on the family room floor with Ken, he would work on his technique before flying off to Japan to compete in Shootfighting. That family saved my life and I am eternally grateful.
Frank you're most likely suffering from CPTSD, caused by early trauma. I have it! It'll always rip you apart until you find a trauma specialist. You are a true champion Bro.
A specialist? Stop advertising that useless dumb stuff, if anything him opening up here was all the help he needed instead of paying somebody by the hour for sessions when they don't even care about you, they just want a check.
@@alexandriasurrett4665 Wow! You exude such intelligence and insight! I laid it out there for him to l;ook into (CPTSD) and if he feels that he has the symptoms associated then he should seek help.
@@alexandriasurrett4665 You should seek for whatever makes you so cynical. Get a pet or a hug or something.
@@alexandriasurrett4665 Mental health and psychological treatment is very real. Educate yourself
@@alexandriasurrett4665 There's something wrong with you. The way you are speaking about therapists you don't even understand. I have seen therapists heal children get them adopted and on to Foster homes. Turn their lives around. Your heart is heavy and cold.
I feel so bad for Frank… just horrendous what he went through … thank you for sharing Mr. Shamrock… your story will help others who have gone through similar experiences God Bless you
Wow what a story. He is a real life anime character. The too humble for his own good. Turned out to be the greatest fighter in the beginning of UFC. Nothing but respect to this guy.
Wow... You can see how hurt he is by his past. Nobody should have to grow up that way. I'm so happy he found a mentor and was led down the right path.
I now have the courage to clean out my sock drawer.
Whatever is in there that needs getting rid of, Godspeed, brother.
What an unbelievable personal story of survival, perseverance, sacrifice, hard work, and overcoming obstacles that could have destroyed him. This video should be shown to all young men in the juvenile penal system. If it changed one life it would be worth it.
@Sean McBrearty very true. That is the underlying story for sure.
Such a inspiring story. Frank is one of the best of all time. Seeing him in tears shows that beneath that tough as nails persona he’s human just like us. Props to frank for doing this video for the world to see. Much respect!!!
Incomprehensible how someone can treat anyone like that let alone a child
When I see stuff like this, I feel bad and selfish for complaining about my little simple problems. It takes a real man to be vulnerable. Even though guys have feelings.
What you become in the process is more important than the dream....respect brother insane journey!!
What bravery, how selfless for this man to share this evil with us. This guy was a terrifying presence in the ring and this is part of his story. Child abuse is rampant in this world and can be stopped.
This is brilliant. Can't begin to explain how much respect I have for Frank and his father for giving him the chance he deserved
Champions are fueled by something different and that adversity hits harder than any man ever will
Much respect to this man for opening up and sharing his journey with us!
Frank and Ken are both great examples of what a human being should be. God bless you all.
My heart hurts so much... Frank is a survivor. Childhood abuse and trauma. 😭 His success story is so heartwarming.
I’ve heard read on Frank & Ken Story. Warriors, legends of the sport, but their dad what a class act he was.
What a man mr shamrock ☘️ senior was gave all those Hurt young people a chance to be someone and something, praise the good people like him who have made such a difference,Mr Shamrock ☘️ God bless you, xxxxx
That was one of the best things I've ever seen on youtube.
Man, him facing this, in an interview no less is beyond a display of his strength. I'm blown away that he is opening up about his struggles in such a beautiful way.
So many people use tragedy in their lives as an excuse to give up. It's always inspiring to see someone who uses those tragedies as motivation to succeed.
Wow, I wasn't expecting to get so emotional watching this. God bless him.
Frank vs Royce was the ultimate fight that never happened.
No contest, royce wasn't an athlete or a fighter
@@scarred10 Ever heard of a guy named KEN SHAMROCK ?....yeah, Royce beat him...and...ROYCE WASN'T A FIGHTER ?...WHAT PLANET ARE YOU FROM ?...ROYCE WON UFC 1,2 AND 4...ROYCE ONCE BEAT A 600LB CHAMPION SUMO WRESTLER WITH A WRIST LOCK...not a fighter...sheesh...what are you like 12 years old ?...
@@damianayre2130 I was following mma from 1993 and training in it from 1996 on the side with tkd and boxing as my main styles.Royce was never thought to be either a great grappler or fighter by other Brazilian bjj or vale tudo men.He beat a clueless ken shamrock at the time who never had a fight before and struggled greatly with kimo who never even trained in any style. As for akebono, the man can hardly walk and had no submission or mma training at all.Royce was a pioneer but far from a great fighter. The only good fighters he ever fought were sakuraba and matt Hughes and both destroyed him.
Always loved Frank, great inspiration as a fighter and champion. Even more inspiring knowing how strong he made himself in spite of this terrible abuse.
I met a guy who was in a boys home in Northern California with Shamrock. He was there when Shamrock arrived. He said he was rough, an angry kid who would use weapons if he was given a chance. It's good to see someone overcome that kind of upbringing.
