“and so he gets to die a saint but she will always be a whore” just feels like an absolute slap in the face from the way he sings in. just the solid rhythm gets me every time. it reminds me of the last “and the collision of your kiss” in cemetery drive.
According to Rock Band, these are the lyrics. Considering they have to work with labels to license these songs, I would highly assume that they got the lyrics from the band/label. [Verse 1] See the man who stands upon the hill He dreams of all the battles won But fate had left its scars upon his face With all the damage they had done [Pre-Chorus 1] And so time with age it turns the page Let the flesh submit itself to gravity [Chorus 1] Let our bodies lay Mark our hearts with shame Let our blood in vain You find God in pain Now if your convictions were a passing faith May your ashes feed the river in the morning rays And as the vermin crawls we lay in the foundations of decay [Verse 2] He was there the day the towers fell And so he wandered down the road And we would all build towers of our own Only to watch the roots corrode [Pre-Chorus 2] But it's much too late you're in the race So we'll press and press 'til you can't take it anymore [Chorus 2] Let our bodies lay Mark our hearts with shame Let our blood in vain You find God in pain And if by his own hand his spirit flies Take his body as a relic to be canonized Now and so he gets to die a saint But she will always be the whore [Breakdown] (You look stressed out) Against faith (Cage all the animals) Against all life ('Cause the message must be pure) Against change (You can wander through the ruins) We are plagued (But the poison is the cure) [Bridge] You must fix your heart And you must build an altar where it swells [Chorus 3] When the storm it gains and the sky it rains Let it flood let it flood let it wash away And as you stumble through your last crusade Will you welcome your extinction in the morning rays? And as the swarm it calls we lay in the foundations [Outro] Yes it comforts me much more Yes it comforts me much more To lay in the foundations of decay Get up coward
@@mattvela7538 i think "gains" works better. not only is it the one in Rock Band, but the storm gaining would make sense as to why "let it flood, let it wash away" is sang after
Thank you for posting this. Not only does it help with knowing the lyrics but tbh this version is absolutely chilling in the best way and I will deadass just listen to this version like music
These are actually the original lyrics! There were never official lyrics released before, so everything you read prior was just people doing their best to hear the lyrics and write them (even on big sites like spotify or apple music, they don't ask the bands for the official lyrics).
@@foolscapper3341 ? oh so was this a very early release and now in their current release they scrapped these lyrics? cos im pretty sure its "If i die in pain" rather than "u find god in pain" unless im not hearing well at all :)
@@cath4411 Believe it or not, it's always been "you find God in pain"! It's just difficult to hear in the song when you listen with all the instruments playing. People wrote "if I die in pain" in the lyrics because it's what they thought he sang. I'm thinking Foundations of Decay had a lot of incorrect lyrics posted when it was first released. I agree though, it's really hard to hear what he's saying, lol 😂
@@foolscapper3341 oh wow i just gave the song a listen and now I can hear "you find god in pain". i actually prefer the fake lyrics xD "may our bodies lay, but our hearts will stay, let our blood invade, if i die in pain" just sounds so much better to me haha
@@cath4411 I like the God in pain line... but I also like old "antihero" line MORE than the real lyrics, and I'm sad it's not "the guiltiness is yours" lol! But I think I'll end up liking these the more I listen. Relearning stuff you thought you knew is tough!
yo this is crazy you can actually hear the confusing lyrics so clearly lmao

"you can wander through the ruins" is my favourite melody in the song
me too omg its sung so pretty...
Ohh the lyrics are so different from what I thought they were.. oh my gosh this is insane
According to Rock Band, these are the lyrics. Considering they have to work with labels to license these songs, I would highly assume that they got the lyrics from the band/label.
[Verse 1]
See the man who stands upon the hill
He dreams of all the battles won
But fate had left its scars upon his face
With all the damage they had done
[Pre-Chorus 1]
And so time with age it turns the page
Let the flesh submit itself to gravity
[Chorus 1]
Let our bodies lay
Mark our hearts with shame
Let our blood in vain
You find God in pain
Now if your convictions were a passing faith
May your ashes feed the river in the morning rays
And as the vermin crawls we lay in the foundations of decay
[Verse 2]
He was there the day the towers fell
And so he wandered down the road
And we would all build towers of our own
Only to watch the roots corrode
[Pre-Chorus 2]
But it's much too late you're in the race
So we'll press and press 'til you can't take it anymore
[Chorus 2]
Let our bodies lay
Mark our hearts with shame
Let our blood in vain
You find God in pain
And if by his own hand his spirit flies
Take his body as a relic to be canonized
Now and so he gets to die a saint
But she will always be the whore
[Breakdown]
(You look stressed out)
Against faith (Cage all the animals)
Against all life ('Cause the message must be pure)
Against change (You can wander through the ruins)
We are plagued (But the poison is the cure)
[Bridge]
You must fix your heart
And you must build an altar where it swells
[Chorus 3]
When the storm it gains and the sky it rains
Let it flood let it flood let it wash away
And as you stumble through your last crusade
Will you welcome your extinction in the morning rays?
And as the swarm it calls we lay in the foundations
[Outro]
Yes it comforts me much more
Yes it comforts me much more
To lay in the foundations of decay
Get up coward
Damn, I got the lyrics so wrong for so long. You can hear Gerard so clearly in this, and those are an obvious match. Thank you so much!
I think it’s “when the storm decays”

He truly has an incredible voice
this feels like being fucking crucified
Idk why but this actually makes a lot of sense
i'm having a spiritual experience
Jesus the "mark" sounds so fucking clear.
Then I listened to the song again and yeah, those are the official lyrics alright.
laying on the floor like napstablook as I listen to this. incredible
Like napstablock ahahhaa totally true tho
tbh napstablook would listen to Midwest emo, despite making electronic
