Hi lovely friends. I really hope you enjoy this video. I'm sure you will have lots to say (!) and I welcome that, as always. However, it took a lot of courage for me to bare my tummy, so I hope you will be kind, as you always are! And, as I mention in the video, anybody can have a lack of waist - me included. It's not about being overweight, it's just a matter of shape. Lots of love to you all. Deirdre. XX
It’d take courage for pretty much everyone to bare their tummies on UA-cam. But first of all, you look absolutely beautiful, and second of all, you’re doing it here with the intention of illustrating a point that is totally relevant and necessary and inspiring to us all. So thank you so much for having the courage. ❤
You've nothing to be embarrassed about. You're always so tastefully dressed, with loads of information. Would love a blouse like the one you're wearing. Simply feminine. I love your seagulls !!
When I saw your first all white outfit I thought "wow that's lovely" then I realised you were showing it as a not so good choice!! LOL. You are of course correct in all your examples and that is why I'm here for your advice. Thanks Deirdre, I love your channel ❤
I can say with complete confidence that menopause has not been my friend. I've gained 30 lbs post menopause and it's significantly impacted my self-confidence. It doesn't help that I have scoliosis, so it makes me look even thicker than I am around my back and waist. 😢 It's truly a challenge finding clothing that makes me look and feel attractive. You, Ms. Dierdre are an inspiration to me, and I appreciate the time you take each week to help those of us that are so dreadfully "fashion challenged." And, for the record, your "belly" is just fine. 😊
Hi Deirdre….I would only wish I had a “tummy” that partially looked like yours!!! I am 72 and you want to see embarrassment! HA! I love all your time consuming videos as they are not easy to put together…of that I am certain of. You give such a wealth of goodness to us and it is very appreciated….so thank you so much as I have incorporated so much of your info in my daily wear…..so again, thank you!!
Any suggestions for “uplifting bras” ? I know you did a bra video but any in particular that are “uplifting”? Also I think you are the first UA-camr I’ve seen that is an inverted triangle like me. Your styling suggestions for this body type are so helpful.
Great video Deirdre. These are all very important. I'm 68 and when I was younger I always had a very small waist in comparison to the rest of my figure. But now as I've aged, I've found that I'm not as defined in the waist area. So These tips and tricks will come in very handy to me. Ty very much.
I have a similar, rectangular, body shape and these are great tips. My waist isn’t really thick, but my shoulders and hips are quite narrow (and the same width). No matter how much I weigh, my waist:hip ratio never changes. I’m at a good, slender weight, but it makes no difference. My narrow hips, especially, make it nearly impossible to find any trousers/jeans that fit. If I get a decent waist fit, the hips, bottom and thighs will be absolutely enormous. The majority of women have much, much bigger hips, bottoms and thighs than I do, pants are always cut for that shape only. So, I mostly stick to stretchy knit, or silk, trouser styles. The former might pull in to be be slim enough below the waist, the latter drape nicely over my skinny hips and derrière. (I’ve never found a wearable pair of jeans, and after 50 years of looking, I’m sick of trying, with all the flops I got).
Thank you for this video. 👍🏽 Not only do I like the style examples, but also the inclusion of African American women to help emphasize your point. This is important to me, not only for the purpose of representing the diversity of the women who follow you, but color blocking as well. My skin tone is somewhere between two of the women you featured; comediennes Wanda Sykes - red blazer and Leslie Jones - pink blazer). The pink outfit was especially stunning. ❤
Hi Denise. I'm so glad you liked the video and I really appreciate your comments about inclusion of African American women to showcase a point. I really aim to be as inclusive as I can and I love all you ladies. Lots of love, XX
Thank you so much for your candor and bravery by exposing your tummy!! Anything to help us understand!! And thank you for the gulls -- you are so lucky to be living by the sea.
I'm a rectangle shape and always struggle to define my waist without making it appear wider than my hips. My instinct is to cover it up. Thanks for all your suggestions. I really enjoy your videos and look forward to all your posts.
I’ve always preferred self-belts, or other ones that match the color of my dress, jacket, etc. Many current garments need to be belted because of the excess fabric, and/or straight cut in the waist area. (I wish brands would tell us that they’re oversized, a trend I really hate on my petite, small frame. One can’t always tell from the image because they put giant 6-foot models into XS). A garment-matched belt defines the waist, or cinches in the extra fabric without drawing as much attention as a contrasting-color one. Although I do also wear contrasting ones, too, depending on the outfit, they’re just not as flattering on my poorly-defined waist. Definitely, no belts wider than standard width (1.25 inches) or 1.5 inches on my short-torso, high-waisted body. I love how you analyze how clothes do or don’t flatter our shapes, Deirdre, that critical eye is so important, especially for each one’s own self-styling. Without this self-objectivity, one ends up as consistently badly dressed and styled as Meghan Markle, a walking fashion disaster despite her super-expensive designer choices. It just proves that money can’t buy taste or style.
You are SO GOOD at this, Deirdre! I love your videos and am eternally grateful for all the time you spend making all these looks and tips for us to be inspired by. ❤
Wonderful tips and very useful information, delivered in an interesting, warm and relaxed manner, as always! The added touch of the sound of seagulls just added to the calm and charming atmosphere. Thank you! ❤️
Hi from Australia. Just came across your video by accident. I'm not usually interested in this sort of thing. I'm 70, tall.....nearly 6 ft and wear all the right things according to you, so quite pleased that after all these years I have got it "nearly" right. Thank you so much, I loved listening to you, you don't "waffle" and I covet your beautiful white blouse. As for baring your tummy. Well done, you have nothing to be ashamed off. Thank you.
As a typical apple shape….waist measurement is same as hips….this was a great video for me . Took inspiration from the looks you created Deirdre. Thank you so much. Would love a colour block video👍🌸
Hi Deirdre, I'm going to try your tips since I'm 5'2" and apple shaped. If you could share color blocking and color tips in general, it would be greatly appreciated. Have a glorious day.❤
Hi Deirdre! I always enjoy your videos, but this one *really* was delightful. I actually happen to have an “hourglass” figure, especially after losing 75 pounds over the last two years. Your demonstration about midrise vs. high rise jeans was eye opening to me. Color me convinced! And speaking of color, I’d love for you to do a video on that. Enjoy your sounds of the sea, lucky girl! ❤
Deirdre love the seagulls and the sound. What great ideas you gave is us to hide our tummy and give us a waist line. You always give us such wonderful ideas. Thank you for sharing Blessings Hugs Love Victoria and Barbara ❤️❤️❤️
I'd like to hear more about the color blocking. Also, can you show some skinny belt outfit ideas? Another youtuber has mentioned the stretchy belts and can you comment on those? Thank you.
Yes, belts have always been a little bit of a challenge. I have the dreaded short torso and it is tricky. Skinny belts always work the best, but it still can be hit or miss and even they can end up being awkward and uncomfortable. The rest of the tips were very useful. Thank you!
I'm just 5ft tall and colour blocking is a no no for me. I would love a video on colour to stop my mainly navy and off white capsule wardrobe looking like a uniform. I'm a rectangle body shape with a short torso and a rounded tummy, so you see my problem! I'm loving your tutorials. They make so much sense.
Thank you Deidre, every point you’ve made will be helpful. I’m 64 and somewhere along the line I lost my waist. I’m inspired now to go through my closet and try every single item on and either pack away or send away items that are no longer flattering. Thank you again, have a great week❤
Thank you for this video, Deirdre! These techniques could really work for me. I'll be buying some new clothes soon so it's perfect timing try this out. Oh, and YES please do a color video! God bless.
that was great and very helpful i have bought the Goliea bits and they are lovely still need to watch your vids for more help im 75 but not giving up yet
Some peplums do. Straight ones on jackets. I have one blouse with a gathered peplum and I feel like it draws attention to my tummy and makes it look bigger.
You have a really easy way of demonstrating your great ideas. Also, you're always kind and a wonderful self advertisement . Yes please a colour blocking video would be much appreciated. Thank you.
I really appreciated your honesty in sharing these tips with us. We all have tummies and as we mature, they do too. Your suggestions for creating illusions by using clothing shapes, colors and accessories were quite helpful. And with warmer weather coming in the next couple of months, it’s good to know we can dress well without having to wear constricting shapewear. Thanks for your ideas.
Thanks Deirdre for another informative video. I have gone through skinny jeans to straight leg jeans, and now my favourite is bootcut, high-waisted (Magic M&S jeans of course) they truly are the best for flattering my size 16 figure. I am pear shaped so wear darker denim with a slightly fitted top. Great tip about a narrow belt too, Looking forward to your expertise on colour. Maralyn xx
Love your videos; I just discovered you. As a full-busted, small (5'4") woman, it can be very difficult to look like you have a small waistline. I always incorporate a v-neck line and A-shaped skirt or bell-bottom jeans, as you have suggested, and it always helps. I always struggle with a good-fitting bra. I have looked at Victoria's Secret, Intimisso, Soma, and many other brands. I am a 34DD to 34DDD. What are your favorite bra brands to use?
Great styling tips for a surf board like me, with a broad waist and a bum one could roll round-shaped wraps on! A question though: What about if one wears a PADDED PANTY underneath dresses? Would that help too in forming a waist when there's none??
This was super helpful. I’m very thin but don’t have a defined waist, never did, and I do practice most of what you suggested. Now I know why and it should cut down on shopping time 😀 Like I keep buying button up cardigans only to return them because now I know the round neckline is not flattering for me Would love to learn more about color
ooooo this is so good. never really worried about stuff like this. Thank you for opening my eyes. please give us more ^^. I have had many health issues and now I truly look like a ball and need so much help.
You might have done a video on foundation wear already and I missed it. If not, please do. My tummy stops me from belting anything and I could use some suggestions. Thanks.
Oh Deirdre thank you for excellent tips. I struggle with new trs styles and what shoes or lengths for these. I carry weight just at thee bust and waist.
Hello from Vermont USA. I am 5Ft 2 and a size 6 US. I have a little lower tummy and have leaned to wear the right things to disguise it. I have MS so am very sensive to the feel of certain fabrics and theings around my waist. I have mid rise jeans that i used to love because they are so soft. But they are too low now and accentuate my lower tummy. I wish i could find a pair that fit properly but havent been able to so gave up and dont even wear pants at all now unless it is atheisure wear. I wear dresses a lot because they hide so much! In the winter i will just wear leggings under them and if short sleeved a sweater over the top.
I’m going to Grand Cayman Island 🏝️ for 2 weeks in August and want to travel light. What is best for me to wear on the plane? Also how many shorts, tops shall I pack? I will have one carry on & a big purse that will fit under the seat. I’ll be visiting my daughter and husband and Hope, age 5 and we’ll celebrate Eden Carol’s 3rd birthday ! I will also see my grandson, age 28. Of course we’ll go to the beach often and to church. I’m silver haired with a short curly cut. I lived in Cayman 20 years & my husband and I taught in a Christian school 🏝️❤️
I really enjoyed this video. So many helpful tips. I am petite, slim with a rectangular shape. For jeans I have always preferred the boot cut or baby bells. They seem to balance out my figure. So to repeat.....Great video!!!
Great styling tips for a surf board like me, with a broad waist and a bum one could roll round wraps on! A question though: What about if one wears a padded panty underneath dresses? Would that help too in forming a waist when there's none??
Lots of great content. I currently have a penchant for the wine colour that you showed in one of the fit and flare dresses. Would love to see a video about colours. Thanks again Deidre, and as always, I appreciate how you showing images with women of all sizes and cultures. #Iloveseagulls
Please make a video for really petite women . I am 5 feet and weigh 115 where can I find sophisticated clothes for my figure? I have practically no waste
ua-cam.com/video/jCzTcDSDwWA/v-deo.html here is my latest one which you may like. Also, ua-cam.com/video/edSYWys8deA/v-deo.html is all about petite styling. XX

Yes please….more on colour…it’s like learning a foreign language to me…I I can’t get me head around it…😅
Stay with either warm or cool primaries. Which suits you best
I loved hearing the seagulls!

Pleated trousers would probably look great on you, since they tend to create a bit more volume below the waist.
Would love to hear about more dark color to use for illusion to hide my waist 😊
Loved hearing the gulls!

Some peplums do. Straight ones on jackets. I have one blouse with a gathered peplum and I feel like it draws attention to my tummy and makes it look bigger.
Thank you for all of the great tips!
You have a really easy way of demonstrating your great ideas. Also, you're always kind and a wonderful self advertisement .
Yes please a colour blocking video would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Maralyn xx
Great video. Thanks for being willing to show your stomach, although you are very slim.
Just found you, wonderful! I have lots to watch! Thank you.
A question though:
What about if one wears a PADDED PANTY underneath dresses? Would that help too in forming a waist when there's none??
Thank you such great ideas, now I will have to watch all your videos
Yes, please make color videos. I'm addicted to black.
This was super helpful. I’m very thin but don’t have a defined waist, never did, and I do practice most of what you suggested. Now I know why and it should cut down on shopping time 😀
Like I keep buying button up cardigans only to return them because now I know the round neckline is not flattering for me
Would love to learn more about color
ooooo this is so good. never really worried about stuff like this. Thank you for opening my eyes. please give us more ^^. I have had many health issues and now I truly look like a ball and need so much help.
Loved the video, and I vote for a video that digs deeper into colors
Loved your video! I am 5-2 and am also a Rectangle. What about corset tops? Shape wear with belts?
You might have done a video on foundation wear already and I missed it. If not, please do. My tummy stops me from belting anything and I could use some suggestions. Thanks.
Oh Deirdre thank you for excellent tips. I struggle with new trs styles and what shoes or lengths for these. I carry weight just at thee bust and waist.
Deirdre
Wonderful helpful information. Yes please more on color !

A question though:
What about if one wears a padded panty underneath dresses? Would that help too in forming a waist when there's none??
I am petite 5'1 with a straight-type body and short torso. Loved your tips but, again, I'm petite & need help!
Thank you for this advice. It is so helpful. I love all of your advice.

Lots of great content. I currently have a penchant for the wine colour that you showed in one of the fit and flare dresses. Would love to see a video about colours. Thanks again Deidre, and as always, I appreciate how you showing images with women of all sizes and cultures.
