Rubber gloves are also useful on carpets to pick up hair. My daughter always dried her long hair at the same mirror leaving long hair on the carpet that got tangled up in the vacuum cleaner 😬. Rubber gloves worked a treat.

I agree with all your points. Regarding the fading colour (especially in Jeans), I buy textile colour and re-dye them in the washing machine. I even dyed a silk dress that had a spot on it. Now, it looks perfect again. On the same note, I buy leather dye to touch up scuffed places on my shoes and handbags; that certainly extends their lifetime.

With regard to bra straps showing I totally agree. But also why do some women insist on wearing black or highly coloured bras under light coloured clothing. Just looks so messy. Much easier just to have black ( or dark coloured) and nude colour bras and preferably smooth so that your clothes fit and fall nicely.

Excellent point about context making all the difference in whether a look works or not!
I'd also add that often the dryer does more damage to clothes than the washing machine, so if you do need to wash something, air-dry it instead (and, of course, anything knit should be dried flat). That's made a big difference for my jeans.

Good advice. I also do 'the scrunch test' before I buy blouses or dresses to see how easily they crease in my hand before buying as you say except for linen, any dress or blouses that easily crease can look very scruffy after a short time of wearing. ❤

I hate labels because they irritate my skin. I try to leave them on nowadays because I sell a lot of clothes as I keep losing weight, but they can drive me nuts. Hanging loops I always cut out, they’re only necessary for one-shoulder or strapless items, which I don’t wear.

Thanks for your always-interesting video posts! I find that at almost 74, I rather prefer looking fresh for my age, instead of modern or YOUNG! Inside my head (apologies for my body screaming so loudly with hysterical laughter!) I am still 37-ish, but I have absolutely no desire (or the money) to look young or wear trends. I am in a creative freelance job, so need to look "smart casual" (for want of a better description) - in other words, pulled together and stylish, without formality. When a client comes to consult with me, I need to look intentionally put together, yet effortless, otherwise they might believe my work is as shoddy as my outfits! I need to always, get up, make up and turn up, because no two days are a like......and I love it it!!!

Velvet hangers are great for most tops and dresses and I use skirt hangers for skirts and trousers (hung, folded at the center crease, by the hems). I iron all my woven linens and cottons well, but then don’t worry about the wear-creases. (I steam other fabrics, generally). It’s easier to keep whites white, with oxygen bleach and/or bluing, than to restore dingy ones. I wash and dry clean my clothes a lot less frequently than I used to, they just don’t need it, my Grandma taught me, and my Mom, that.

I agree with every one of these. Especially the wrinkles and the (pet) hair. I too have pets and I adore them. But I never step foot outside without first making sure I'm "de-haired". Lint rollers are in my mudroom just at the back door and they get a work out. And on the wrinkles - noooo way. I too dry-clean most of my things, but have an iron or steamer on stand-by. I bought both for my kiddo when she left for college and drilled it in her head. We talk every day and that is the first thing she says ..."Yes mom I ironed my clothes" ... Well at least I did one thing right lol.

    • @nickyonstilts128
      @nickyonstilts128 6 місяців тому

@@rosej9686 Add 1/2 c of borax to the wash along w/ regular laundry detergent, use 3/4 c for large capacity & front loading machines. OxiClean powdered additive has a scoop inside to add alongside the detergent. Hot water (hate using it) does make white clothes brighter. My mother in law always used hot water on white socks, undies and t-shirts and it did work. For every day washes I just use the liquid Persil that has Oxiclean built in. Hope this helps Rose.

Visible bra straps (and VPLs) aren’t elegant, so they’ve always been a No for me. I always wear seamless, no-show bras and undies, in only two colors - black for under darks (of which I don’t wear a lot) and a well-matched nude for everything else. I love Lily Silk’s seamless, metal-free pull-on silk and Spandex bras, but they give only the lightest support and I’m really pushing the size limit (“One-Size”) at a 34D. They’re great for at home, though, super-comfy.

Great video, Deirdre. I really enjoyed this and the comments!
    Velvet hangers ROCK~!
    Regarding pet hair:
Rubber gloves DO work. Also dryer sheets can help loosen the fur which stcks because of static. Great thinkg to pack in your luggage.
I'd suggest a reusable lint brush. Amazon has them or google "alternatives to lint rollers." Lint rollers are a pain inthe you-know-what plus they're wasteful.

I carry one of those rollers to get off hair in my purse because I have two dogs and a cat and I’m always checking my clothes to see if I have fur all over them. I guess it’s called a lint roller

My pet peeve is shoes without socks or stockings. You can really ruin your shoes by putting them on bare feet. Because your feet sweat, slide around in your shoes with the end result being that your shoes are now malformed & stink from your sweaty feet. Not to mention your feet get blisters that way too. I know this is a popular trend for both men & women but it’s just not practical. Socks & stockings wick away moisture.

Nippies are usually never mentioned. I buy the extra large, I have full size C breast and they work. When you wear the extra large you can’t see the shape under your garment.

No! No bra straps showing in the over 50 crowd please. It lacks sophistication. Wear a flesh toned bra under a white top; it won’t show through as much as a white bra.
