Turns out, as suggested by @Bob Bakley, it was the settings for my unit. I hooked it up to my TV using HDMI and the resolution was too high for my small monitor to handle through VGA. Dropped the resolution in settings, plugged in the VGA to my monitor and it came up. Thanks for your advice Bob
Check the display settings in the menu. The VGA output has different resolutions than are available with the HDMI. I can't remember exactly what the exact settings are. In these less expensive units they can't output different settings for each dsiplay type.
its 1080 and it went dead. The output fo the HDMI is still 1080 and the monitor works fine. Fault was the vga, thanks for your comment. I should have stated that in the video.
No problem, I set one of these up for a neighbor of mine and he wanted to use both a dedicated monitor using the VGA output and run HDMI to his TV set. There wasn't a setting that allowed both outputs to function at the same time, it was one or the other.

Here's one for you. I have a analogue dvr there are no audio inputs on it at all, I have purchased a microphone and connected it to a camera, i'M USING THE HDMI PORT TO STREAM TO THE TV, if I used a VGA converter would I be able to get audio from the microphone recorded on the dvr?
im having the same issue except the vga behind the tv appears damaged, can i use that same converter and plug the vga end to the dvr and the hdmi to the tv?
IAM using VGA to HDMI converter in my laptop Hp pavilion dv 6000 to connect with my projector it works properly in duplicate mode it shows both display proper in laptop as well as in projector but when I select only projector mode it's shows no signal in projector what is the issue sir
Sir when i connect dvr to monitor with vga cable and swich on dvr that time moniter show dvr booting (HIKVISION NAME) but then moniter show black screen AND same dvr get ping but not connected in neither software nor web browser how to solve
Thx For the video, I appreciate the simple solution ,cheaper than buying a monitor with HDMI
I certainly learnt something there about not using a VGA cable that is too long as it can damage the circuitry 👍
Great video! Thanks. My DVR-5680 unit is brand new and the VGA doesn’t work, so I’m using your method. Frustrating for a new unit
