- With my DIY solo stove stainless steel smokeless firepit burning so well I wanted to see if I could cook on it as well. I used some 1/4 inch round stock and flat bar, using my new ring-roller from Amazon : amzn.to/3gPYYIB (affiliate link)

Looks good bud. Well done.
Looking good Tom. You have mastered “eyes and ears” now about protecting your toes! ;~)
While you are making the skewers that Phylis suggested, consider adding a length of bar stock with a ~ bend at one end to use as a grate lifter. The pan bottom that you cut out could be used as a handle heat shield by drilling a hole slightly larger than the handle either in the center or slightly offset. Slip shield on or off as needed.
Another good video in this series. Trevor is looking well after his cycling opportunity. Stay safe out there and enjoy your time together. Peace brother
I knew you’d spot the toes. :-) Good tips on the grate lifter and heat shield. Thank you for watching. Have a nice weekend. Peace brother.
@@GreenShortzDIY you have been lucky not to catch a grinder spark between your toes... PAINFUL reminder to wear proper footwear.
Welding’s such a useful skill - that I don’t have! That ring roller looks handy too. Nice project 👍
Hi, Anything that you can cook on a camp stove can be cooked on the fire pit you built. Long cooking times like for stews or roasts would be a major hassle but anything else will work just fine.
FYI - once the stove is hot reload it with a lot of fuel and let it come back up to temperature when using a wok. Woks need high heat during cooking and the more consistent the better.
Also you will need marshmallows skewers - that thing is just begging to roast marshmallows!
Later !
If you're going to use the other, taller side for a wok you will want to smooth out/round off the end of the rods it will be in contact with to allow for it to glide over the grill and also lessen scratching.
Agreed. I’ll plan on doing that. Thank you for the suggestion. Thank you for watching.
Nice work as usual! Love that ring roller, very satisfying to watch.
I need one of these DIY Solo Stoves
Thank you for watching, Amen. You can build one DIY. :-)
Great video GreenShortz!
Great project thanks for sharing.
Hey Tom, i'm impresed with your skills building the smokeless pot and pot stand
Nice engineering!
very nice
Thank you for watching.

Love your videos. 🥰🥰
just started building mine from a washing machine tub
Awesome designs!!
What would happen if you insulated the outer container?
I'd assume that would increase the efficiency some, by making the airflow between the pots hotter. But, I like getting some radiant heat from the outer pot. Interesting idea. Thank you for watching.
We used to put together a one-pot 'beef stroganoff', two knorr-type packages of wide noodles, one package mushroom gravy mix, two cans of beef. There's a gravy mix brand called Simple something without a bunch of chemicals and it's gluten-free. Ingredients are shelf-stable virtually forever and worked for our special needs kids. Hot waffles were another of our camping staples, with a cast iron, long-handled waffle iron. You'd have to learn to tame your fire, need consistent heat. Pre-mix waffle ingredients (dry eggs, dry buttermilk) in a squeeze bottle with marked water & oil lines, add water & oil, shake to combine. Stir with a chop stick if there's dry batter in bottom 'cause the kids don't mix it well. 😁
For cooking, you need a little folding metal table about the same height at stove. That's your 'keep warm' area, and keep utensils off the ground, out of the dirt, then hold pan of warm water for washing.
You may try cooking a Paella....! It seems perrrrfect?!?!?!
Are you familiar with Sean Beardon? He's a craftsman up here who makes…well, loads of different projects, but stoves are but one of his creations.
I'll have to check him out. Thank you for sharing.
@@GreenShortzDIY I also saw videos up here that show j-rohr, or j-tube, stoves, being capable of acting as blast furnaces and forges; to exploit that mechanic is my goal, and furthermore, calcium orthosilicate fares better as insulation even than perlite!
(J-rohr is pronounced "yott-roar", btw)
Fresh caught fish could be fried in the wok. There are all kinds of ready made breading/coating mixes for fish; or, you could make your own.
If your camping trips are extended, do you think you could come up with a way to make an oven attachment for you portable fire pit? If it can be done, you're the one to do it?
Thank you, Donna!
Nice video. Oh, BTW, Dia Dhuit in Gaelic is pronounced JEE-ah ghwitch (the with a slight back of the throat trill on ghwitch). I know it makes no sense, but, Gaelic, what can you do?
I knew I was probably pronouncing it wrong, but wow! I was way off. :-) Thank you for the phonetics. I’ll have to practice that, but I’ll do my best. Thank you for watching. Thank you for the compliment.
"Eyes and Ears" then wears sandals haha
Start your fire letting it burn down to cooking coals, throw on a cast iron frying pan, and grill up a big ol' ribeye... use plenty of butter !!!
Thanks for the tips! I need to let the fire die down. That’s a hard one for me. Lol. Thank you for watching.

பார்த்ததற்கு நன்றி. :-)
You can also make a flame adjuster so you can simmer your stove. ua-cam.com/video/_5vkKAnknZo/v-deo.html
Great suggestion. Thank you.

You aren’t going to bend it trying to hold that Vice down with bare knees. Ffs.
Yeah. That was kinda silly of me. :-)
