My grandpa used to call this a Hobo stove...when we would go camping every year, he would make up things like this to keep us kids entertain..the things he made for us would be unbelievable I am sure the items he made were for survival when he was growing up in Texas back before WWl....we would call fun stuff, Grandpa's stuff.....good stuff. ...I remember him making a rope thats was about 50 feet long and then cutting it down to about 15 feet and giving it to each of his grandson.. I had that rope all the way through Boy Scouts ..such is life
I was blessed with one of those grandpops too. He had six grandchildren all girls He lived in a place on the water had boat dock and 6 little cabins he rented out in summer months. In those days there was no ac so city folks would vacation on the water in tbe little rental cottages. Our family Came for Sunday dinner every week and every holiday. After Grandmom served dinner Grandpop gathered us up and out we went for our Nature walks, water survival lessons, land survival skills, how to fish, use tools, crabbing, canoeing etc. after our life lessons were over we had a campfire and roasted marshmallows and made hot choc and we sat around and he told us his war stories, then finished up with once upon a time stories so we ended with fun happy child hood memories. @@davekirby7790 You sir, have something I always wanted but never got. Didn't want money, fame or glory? I would have been happy with just one grandchild but if I had to rent a bus to fit them all in for a trip to the zoo or camping? Even better! Yes, I am jealous, envious and a few other emotions mixed in but at the same time, I am also very happy for you. Those kids are a blessing and as far as I am concerned ( For whatever that is worth? Lol ) you are a rich man! Just like money, spend your time wisely. Doing things as a family no longer seems to be the normal way of life? I was blessed by 2 sets of grandparents and 2 great grandmothers that I would see weekly and they all had a wonderful influence on my life. I'm not sure why I am rambling on here? Anyway, enjoy those kids and never forget the treasures they really are because if you do it right they will never forget you.
I love the way my kids and friends just stare when I pull out a tiny kit and start cooking wherever we happen to stop for a rest also great for bank fishing
I do to because too many people pray before they eat just for show and then start cussing about politics or whatever it is in their lives that they are mad about that they can't change anyway, they are not real, this man is real!!!
Hey watched the hobo cooking can and fry pan brought back old memories of the coal mine tracks and shafts we played in and camped in as kids. A lot of this came out of german war and into 20s and 30sm We were taught these how to's in scouts from men of ww2 and Korea as scout masters. Great stuff still use this today. Great men and memories. Thanks for keeping this A live.
In today’s world of uncertainty this would be great to keep in a “bug out bag” for emergency situations. And maybe keep one bigger one or several small ones for more people. Thanks James. Always good to be prepared
Um why have it in your bug out bag have the food still in the can in your bug out bag and eat that then make the grill after you eat it. That way you have atlest 1 meal
Works brilliantly! I used leftover charcoal that was only half burned from the last grilling. Good way to use up the bits when you only need one burger. Thank you!
Appreciate your videos very much. Love it that you're "low tech" showing the simple things and how to utilize them. You're a good teacher (I've had a stroke & many things are difficult to understand) but, your way of teaching is great and the clear up close videos explaining & demonstration makes it to even I can understand. Keep up the good work! 👍🏼
Great information on the computer fan grills and the can to use. I have used one or two charcoal briquettes in my Firebox Nano stove and they worked great, slow even heat, no worry about flame impinging onto the food. Easy to carry with no worry about fuel spilling.
Nice! Learn how to make a press and make your own briquettes and you'll have your system complete in time for the collapse. 22 oz soup cans work for cooking stoves. But don't last.
So glad I found your channel, the innovation and creativity is amazing. Sure you can spend a fortune on gear but there is something special about using something you crafted yourself.
You can also fill the can (mostly) with water, freeze it and then use the nail or a drill to make the holes. No bending! Its safer if the kiddos want to try. We made these with binder clips for feet.
Brilliant, you can also remove a few coals from a campfire if you don't want to cook over a bigger fire. My smallest coal grill is bucket sized, great improvement.
Reminds me of the old Coffee can stoves that we used to make in the Boy Scouts when I was a kid! Just something about using everyday things for other purposes! Thanks for the video!!!

Great project 👍. I personally don't like match light, to me it gives the food a lighter fluid taste. I might try a little lump charcoal and a fire starter. I definitely like anything grilled best.
Yes. Match light needs a little longer to burn off. I also put on top a little dry sticks to help the burn off and flavor. So give that a try you'll love it

Dude, very nicely done! Someone else mentioned your moment before eating. I am atheist and can't stand religion constantly being shoved in my face. You taking a moment to be with yourself and your God is something I support with all of my being. I love that you did it subtlety instead of being flamboyant or boastful. Freedom of religion is super important but so is not making others uncomfortable in your presence. Thank you for that, and less importantly, thank you for this really kick ass little grill. Thank you so much for the kind words. My faith is very important to me but I believe in being kind and generous toward others and what they choose to believe in (or not believe in) as well. Thank you so much for subscribing and welcome aboard!
I appreciate your comment, too. As a woman of faith I never want to make anyone uncomfortable. St. Francis of Assisi said to "Preach the Gospel at all times, use words [only] when necessary." In other words, I try to live the Gospel, not hit people over the head with it. Still, I'm glad to be reminded of it.
i ordered a 6" x 6" grill grate from amazon. i bet if i look around the supermarket long enough i might find a can that would fit ok with this charcoal grill project. This should be fun to make!
Thank you for the great idea. I'll have to try this, especially during the campfire bans during these heat waves we been having lately during the summer
@@WayPointSurvival I won't forget I Save your video. I enjoy your video Thank You. I prefer to use gas or alcohol. No waste product. I did pick up a small stainless steel box from Amazon that assembles and you can burn wood or Charcoal pellets. If you want to put alcohol stove in it you can or use gas canisters and stove is as wind block. Multifunctional simple construction yet folds up flat and small weighs almost nothing.
That's cool! You're so creative. I'm going to make one of those. I would probably use it mostly with wood or the mesquite charcoal we have available locally.
You can get faster cooking times if you ad a top either same size or a little smaller holds my onion centered on top so I get a good no flip cook through. Can also use one less piece of charcoal or add some small twigs for "forest flavor". Nice job! mike...in Los Angeles
I scrounged enough pieces to sorta make one. I don't have the two small grills but I found a rack from an old microwave. I made me and the dog a hotdog. Worked pretty good. Gonna try a burger tomorrow if the weather's good. 👍🏻👍🏻 I can't believe how good this little thing works. It took a while but the burgers were amazing. Only bad thing was it started cooling down before the second one was done. I think there's room for another piece or two of charcoal and maybe I'll try leaving it in bigger pieces next time.
Another great idea to be prepared for hurricane season! Charcoal, matches and a mini can cooker! Keep a bag of Matchlight on hand for storm season. My friend you really have to promote these ideas to people in potential disaster areas! This is knowledge way beyond just bushcraft! Areas hit by floods and tornadoes and mudslides and tropical storms and hurricanes all need to know this. Any kind of sudden bad events. Your viewership needs to be huge! Why? Because this world is in turmoil! Disasters happen and people that are prepared will fare better. My faith in God allows me not to live in fear but to always be prepared...for life..and to give an answer to those who ask why I believe!
Great idea. For the smaller screen at the bottom to hold the charcoal you could use some hardware cloth cut just a little larger so you could pucker the center to hold the charcoal above the bottom of the can.
The solder used in hardware cloth may contain lead and that would not be a good idea around food. Even galvanized wire would not be great when heated around food. Gotta keep those brain cells intact!
I got the canteen stove, the firebox, pocket rocket and alcohol stove. But, I love the taste of charcoal cooked 🍳 food and this charcoal stove would be the easiest and cheapest way to have a great little stove and just thinking 🤔 and 🎒 THANKS AGAIN MAN ..THAT IS AWESOME 👌
Well looks like I got to go to a computer store or Best buy and see if they get those fan grills that way I can get one and make my own and also take a esbet stove to see if they'll fit I think that's smaller one will fit if not I got to figure out something about making my own you have a blessed day my friend very interesting and informative video God bless
Saw this video again and noted what you used. Great idea! I think a person could use the heat off the grill to heat up other things as well, pork n beans, water, for example.
I just bought two grills from AMAZON, one for my Mrs B,and one for myself. These will go into our ready to go quick grab bags. Thanks for the info on those. Very good to watch again James. From BB in the UK

Thank you so much, glad you liked it and that you are finding it useful.
Contractors Solvent works great also.
It is an Orange based product that will even remove dried silicone.
Safe for your hands/skin also.
That is good to know, thanks!
That's cool! You're so creative. I'm going to make one of those. I would probably use it mostly with wood or the mesquite charcoal we have available locally.
That would work well. Thanks for watching.
Awesome idea, making 1 for my next wild camp in the bush 🙂new Zealand here keep it up champ 👌👍
Excellent, will do!
That’s great James. Chicken Feast can stove. Thanks for showing us and take care.
Thank you, my friend!
You can get faster cooking times if you ad a top either same size or a little smaller holds my onion centered on top so I get a good no flip cook through. Can also use one less piece of charcoal or add some small twigs for "forest flavor". Nice job!

Good ideas, thank you!
I want a hamburger now. Fantastic video simple and fun. I’ll make one with my grandson, and cook a burger
Excellent, thanks for watching!
I scrounged enough pieces to sorta make one. I don't have the two small grills but I found a rack from an old microwave. I made me and the dog a hotdog. Worked pretty good. Gonna try a burger tomorrow if the weather's good. 👍🏻👍🏻
I can't believe how good this little thing works. It took a while but the burgers were amazing. Only bad thing was it started cooling down before the second one was done. I think there's room for another piece or two of charcoal and maybe I'll try leaving it in bigger pieces next time.
Excellent, glad it works so well for you!
A charcoal grilled meal would be a real treat out in the middle of Nowhere.
Thank you!
Amen! Thanks for the kind words!
Maaan! That's what I'm talking about! Love this stuff 😎💜
Thanks for watching!
Always logically great stuff thank you Sr every time.👍🏽
You're welcome!
Great idea. For the smaller screen at the bottom to hold the charcoal you could use some hardware cloth cut just a little larger so you could pucker the center to hold the charcoal above the bottom of the can.
That's also a great idea thank you for sharing it!
Great, glad you liked it!
Nothin better the a bbq hamburger in the woods. Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. Have a safe wonderful week.
Thank you. Much appreciated!
Nice little cooker, and if you would prefer not to dent your can, fill it 3/4 full of water and freeze, should eliminate any dents.
Yeah that's a very neat little stove. I'll be making one of those. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas with us James.
Great, thanks for watching!
That would work if you get the right size.
I love your channel! Great stuff 😊
Thank you so much!
Saw this video again and noted what you used. Great idea! I think a person could use the heat off the grill to heat up other things as well, pork n beans, water, for example.
Yes, it has a lot of uses!
I just bought two grills from AMAZON, one for my Mrs B,and one for myself. These will go into our ready to go quick grab bags. Thanks for the info on those. Very good to watch again James. From BB in the UK
Excellent! You're welcome and thanks for watching and commenting again!
Amazon seems these even cheaper, or in reasonable quantities, but be sure to get steel, or steel/chrome. I'd avoid nickel.
You are wonderful at doing what you do.
Thank you so much, I really do appreciate the compliment!
What an amazing idea! Thanks
You are so welcome!
