God bless you guys for supporting this car. I am pretty much an anti-Subaru type of guy (more BMW and Honda). But I will likely buy one because Subaru/Toyota knocked the current gen out of the park. What a fantastic package for 30 grand. Sure you have Turbo 4 cylinder Mustangs and Camaros for similar money. But they are just huge, heavy cars. Some of us still long for lightweight, quick, good handling cars in a smaller package. Thank you Toyota. Thank you Subaru.
I had a 2014 FRS and absolutely loved it, only complaint was the interior quality and how slow it was. Went to a MK7 GTI, and then last may I upgraded to a 2021 Veloster N. Really wishing I would've waited and bought the GR86, all these youtubers buying one is killing me 😭
If you're complaining that a Gen1 Hachi Roku is slow you're missing the point of the car. It wasn't made to compete with hot hatches, it's made to compete with the mx-5, Aka a front engine rear wheel drive go kart that you can push to its absolute limit (relatively) safely.
best drivers car to come out since the S2000 (not counting the miata because anyone over 5'10" cant fit in them)... I am very excited about this car and the fact you guys bought one!
Damn all these brz/86 videos of UA-camrs has made me really interested in considering getting one. They are pretty quick for what they are and gas isn't bad to daily drive it.
I've been reading long term tests in C&D since the early 80's, and I have to say: what you're proposing may be the best long term documented test ever done. Can't wait.
So glad you are doing this! Can't wait for all the follow-ups. So glad, also, Toyota & Subaru are maintaining a sports car line for those who can and should own and enjoy sports cars: People who are young - or young at heart - who either cannot or will not pay $50k+ to get a driver's car.
I absolutely love the new twins. Appreciate the car care tips. I'm about to put on a 5 year ceramic coat now that I've had some practice with the 1 year type.
Legitimately the only new car I have any interest in. Thanks for covering it so thoroughly. Only way Toyota could've made this a sweeter deal is if they put the hinge for the trunk above the rear glass so I could have my "new Integra" that Acura/ Honda refuse to make.
I love that color! For those that cant afford a Cayman, this is the next best thing, IMO. When you are done all the Mods, it will be interesting to see a track battle vs a Base Cayman or an S.
Porsche should something honorable for the enthusuaist mortals. Something like a manual only Cayman T spec lent out to the Cupra brand so it can be sold affordably without the badge tax.
Glad to see there are still no markup dealerships out there. I put the deposit down on my BRZ at Austin Subaru for exactly MSRP (as at the time they claimed to be a no markup dealership) four months ago. I got so nervous that they weren't going to honor the price since I've started seeing new cars with a "market adjustment" premium on a their site. Thankfully the rep I've been in contact with has been very good reassuring me that the price hasn't changed. I'm picking it up on the 18th!
i bought my first new car from St Charles Toyota, my old neighbor was the sales manager when the FRS first came out, he let me have a go in one for a little bit
I look forward to seeing the content with the GR. I ordered my 22 BRZ in November and picked it up mid February. I love it. I have already put a catback exhaust on it and plan to do a header and tune once available. The center column buzz is from the stupid fake sound. My car did it too until I unplugged it.
I got my BRZ early December and got an Invidia N2, an MTec clutch spring, scuff protectors, light up door sill and a wireless CarPlay adapter. I’m waiting on my black duckbill which albeit not colormatched should look good on my sapphire blue. I plan to get my roof wrapped black too. A steering wheel wrap and shift knob when I figure out what color I’m going with because the outside is blue but the stitching is red. (Damnit Subaru! Should’ve went with the GR which has grey stitching and less chrome). Coil-overs and headers will have to wait…least till a tune is out. P.S. Sapphire blue is nice but a b#%ch to keep clean or prestige.
I love the idea of this car and the execution is interesting. I hope you'll share a thought or two about how it suits drivers who are over age 21. I am well and far into that demographic and I still miss the old 3-series that I drove in the early 90s.
I love that a lot of car reviewers are buying this car. Not just talking about car UA-camrs, but reviewers and journalists who got invited to the press test drives, and has driven many other cars but decides to buy this, testament to how good the car is, or how much potential it has.
They are definitely a total pile. I am 75yo and drive a 2015 FRS man trans, which I bought new and it now has over 71,000 miles. It is the best one of over 60 vehicles I've owned in my lifetime. It has gone round trip coast to coast 5 times, a great road trip vehicle. Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with it so far. (Clutch TOB issue may present itself at some future time). Made in Japan rules !
Hey dude just so you know "a total pile" is shorthand for " a total pile of shit". (Like it's not a good car). I think you interpreted that to mean that it's a complete package/ solid unit. Hope that helps!
I'm looking forward to following your testing, the mods you make, and your feelings about the car through all of that. As a 2022 BRZ buyer I'm interested in issues you run into, how much improvement the modifications make, and trade offs. Thanks again for all the two of you do.
It’s a joke, the savagegeese boys are always making tongue in cheek statements. But it’s also pretty obvious that people do give some consideration to the image a car gives them. It’s like someone who brags about not caring what clothes they wear. They do care- it’s just showed in a different way
@@ryanj116 I have a good feeling that wasn't a joke Chris. I have a very good feeling that people would actually ask that question. Kind of like how you would ask the same question if you look cool in your classic V8 ego car. There are people that ask those questions. For example years ago somebody at my job got a brand new G37 and I said that's a girl's car as a joke. But he took it seriously and he told me that he looked on Google and they said that it wasn't a girl's car and Men are fine to drive it as well and he also told me that's why you got it and read so he can block out the windows and rims so it looks more like a guy's car.... so he took my joke seriously that's to prove me right about something else that I was saying before. It's a joke that most guys need a vehicle to feel more masculine because of their low testosterone
Nice move buying a new 86! I wonder what the result would be if you keep the stock springs but replace the cheap dampers for some better ones, such as ohlins or Bilstien?
Awesome content as always. I sold a ND2 Miata and bought the 22 BRZ. Great car, but imo not as fun as the Miata. So back to a Miata I go! Looking forward to see what you do with the GR86 though.
So I bought my 2022 BRZ base manual for 29,500 Canadian from a dealership in Barrie Ontario. (I ordered it on Christmas week so they actually even applied a 500$ discount). All in all I paid an equivalent of about 23,000 USD msrp before tax. From what I've heard so far, this is just about the best deal ever. Originally I ordered an 86 from a nearby Toyota dealership. Toyota wanted 31500 for the base and would not even offer an estimate on delivery. To my knowledge they have yet to receive a single allotment, whereas I got my BRZ late January. The main reason I'm sharing this info is because I'm blown away by how these vehicles are priced region to region and in comparison to eachother.
I lived in Illinois for 42 of my 48 years and I don't miss it at all. I live in Lower Lake, CA now and it doesn't rain here for 9 months straight. I love not having to worry about salt on the roads. I am buying a GR86 as soon as possible. I want either a blue one like yours or the Special Edition with the Sun Shift Orange. :)
Literally everyone is buying these as long term reviews. Why not buy something that everyone will be buying (i dunno, a corolla). The 86 is about as easy to analyze as any perfect sports car. Its purpose built for fun, the end. Heck, it gets 22 miles per gallon which is worse than a 3.0 supra or m440i. So you spend 35k on a car and then 5k on PPF and extra's. "affordable". The actual cost of owernship is going to be as much as any other expensive sports car. Bet.
Why would a channel targeting an car enthusiasts get a Corolla? Go to read/watch Edmunds if you want that. 86 and Miata are cars that don't cost as much as other sports cars. Nowhere close. Tires and brakes last way longer and aren't anywhere close as expensive to replace as something on a Corvette or even a Camaro.
Then buy the base car and just get the factory ppf which is like 600 bucks. For the price its a great capable car if you want to track it, comes in a manual, ect.... Why are you surprised everyone is buying one? Ownership costs we shall see, will definitely be cheaper to own compared to the supra and m440 you mentioned, also better looking and again with a manual.
Your first two sentences are completely contradictory - "everyone is buying these", "why not buy something that everyone will be buying" - you sort of answer your own question in a backwards way. Also, perhaps they're buying GR86s because that's what they want to own and spend their money on?
I actually just put a deposit down on a new GR86 yesterday (in the same spec/color as you have here). I've been looking for a new car to replace my 2020 MX-5 Club, and I was originally planning on getting a Camaro 2SS 1LE as I've never had a V8 before and I wanted to try one before they disappear. However, I put in an order for one at my local dealer back in mid-November, and they still haven't gotten an allocation for one 4 months later, and when I spoke to the Sales Manager he had no idea if, or when, they would get one. Looked around at a couple of other Chevy dealerships but it was the same story, and there was nothing matching the specs I wanted within a 1000 mile radius. The GR86 was my second choice. Had a 2018 BRZ with the Premium Package and loved that car, so this new model caught my attention as soon as it was released. Checked around yesterday, but the few dealers that had stock were either one's that were reserved, or they weren't the spec I wanted (wrong transmission, wrong color, etc.). Finally found a dealer in New York state, about 2 1/2 hours away from me that, while they didn't have what I wanted in stock, seemed to sell enough of them that they get frequent allocations. Saleswoman I spoke with was very helpful and professional, and I ended up putting my name on their list and putting down a deposit. I've kept the Camaro order as well for the time being. I'd be happy with either car, and now it's just a matter of which company can get the car to me first, and I'll cancel the other order once that happens. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's not too much longer for either, as this is going to be a weekend fun car, and we're coming up on the good driving season here in northwest Pennsylvania.
I’m from Australia and I love your videos, very informative and enjoy to watch. I’m glad you are doing this video for someone looking at this car. Looking forward to seeing a video of tuning and how much power is possible.
This series has me very hyped, I've had the BRZ on my list for next car and this will answer a lot of my questions. I live not too far from where Jack is so I'm no stranger to Midwest winters.
Thank you guys! Even though I will probably never be able to afford this car, especially with the 20-30% markup courtesy of being a resident of Puerto Rico, I can at least live vicariously through this series. Can't wait for all the updates, especially mileage, please drive this thing more than just 20-30k miles!
This is a great, realistic and honest approach to the gr86. Really curious to see how it turns out, I grew up loving high revving Japanese cars. First car was a 95 prelude, put a H22A in it and loved it. Had a blacktop AW11, 2zz MR2 Spyder, G35 and V6 Accord Coupe along the way too. Then I finally pulled the trigger on a ls1 6 speed f body and have been enjoying that since. I'm torn between getting a new LT1 Camaro and the GR86. They are a lot closer in price than I think anyone wants to admit. They are opposites but I really do enjoy both lightweight revs and torque. The 6th gen Camaro platform is amazingly stiff and competent in my driving experience and I really loved the previous gen 86 besides the horrid motor. I will be closely watching the series, thanks for keeping it real like no other UA-camr does!
I secured a spot for a manual gr86 premium build. Put money down but now I just wait for one to be allocated to me. I can’t wait to get my hands on this car. I’m sure this will be a classic down the road as well. Man I can’t wait!!

YOOOO funny story. This past winter was my first winter with my 2017 GT 86 in illinois. I asked the forums and my FB group about it and would hit up the car wash every weekend after it snowed and would almost LITERALLY get under the car and spray it. Glad to know that I was doing the right thing. Also, i've recently seen a GR86 in the same color...I wonder.... Love the videos my Illinois brethern.
Awesome tip about having PDI done but not washing. I have a '22 Veloster N arriving in about 2 weeks, gonna make sure I tell my finance manager that when he calls me telling me the car's arrived.
I’m excited for this series. The new Toyobaru is a car that I should like, should desire, should want as a young car enthusiast, but for some reason doesn’t inspire me, doesn’t excite me. I need o drive more cars to understand, cause I’m starved for experience, but more than that these are the type of cars I want to want. Fun, sporty vehicles
I've been using a combo of tunnel wash/handwash for my cars for years with no issues. I live in California where I don't have to worry about snow (what's that??), road salts and all that stuff people experience in harsher winter climates. Bird doo is probably the worst enemy, followed micro chips caused by small rocks on the road, and lastly fallen leaves from trees that get into the cowl area under the hood. Nice 86 BTW!

Thanks a lot and keep up the great work! Yours, Soeren
Get these gents to a million subs please. Best auto reviewers on UA-cam. Coming from IL I may be bias, but seriously, very refined work
I love this car. I bought it on March 3rd and since then have did a ton of modifications to it like wheels, spoiler, supercharger and stage 3 weight reduction etc. It has a PP of 706 and I take it to the track everyday.
How do you have a supercharger on it if the ECU hasn’t been cracked and tuned? Sorry if I think you’re full of shit. Unless you got a 1st gen, not the same car bruh.
@@Rob165x based on all he said, he's strictly speaking about video games.
Why would anyone who can afford daily track time be driving this - no matter how modified. Sorry, don't buy it.
It flew over y'all's heads, he was joking sheesh
@@mikeyKnows_ it’s a half assed joke. There’s people that have done more than that minus the power gain. js, half assed sarcasm. And yes, someone has done weight reduction even.
Nice Jack.... looking forward to seeing this vehicle long-term.
a lot of youtubers been buying this car, wonderful purchase!
I had a 2014 FRS and absolutely loved it, only complaint was the interior quality and how slow it was. Went to a MK7 GTI, and then last may I upgraded to a 2021 Veloster N. Really wishing I would've waited and bought the GR86, all these youtubers buying one is killing me 😭
You still can old chap
I have a Veloster N. I'm not sad about how that car performs. It's very quick.
@@alexduey7868 I'll get a GR86 in a few years, once depreciation hits them. Trying to pay off the N before I get anything else lol
Veloster N looks like a great performer. Really considering that and the GR 86
Ordered my BRZ (base, 6 speed) on December 4th and just picked it up on March 5th. Car is rad.
epic series, so much value and entertainment! Thanks guys
I've been reading long term tests in C&D since the early 80's, and I have to say: what you're proposing may be the best long term documented test ever done. Can't wait.
Toyota dealer here said you can’t order. You just get in line for an allocation and hope it has what you want for options.
Might be ok since there’s hardly any options to choose from.
You can’t, Toyota goes by allocations, you pretty much tell them what you want and they try to find the closest spec for you.
Damn are these that high in demand? I hope it wont be a issue in a year
Excited about this and I hope it helps the channel grow, because you guys have earned it more than anyone out there! Love you guys!
This ‘long term enthusiast ownership’ is a great format! Sorry you had to buy a whole car to do it. 😄
Congratulations on new car. As an owner of 22 brz looking forward to this series of videos
Legitimately the only new car I have any interest in. Thanks for covering it so thoroughly. Only way Toyota could've made this a sweeter deal is if they put the hinge for the trunk above the rear glass so I could have my "new Integra" that Acura/ Honda refuse to make.
Love bringing in Chicago auto pros. Good to educate people about how to keep your car in great condition!!
Damn. How many UA-camrs are gonna buy a GR86 this year 😂😂
Usually what they do for views then they go off and buy whatever’s new down the road.
Finally found a comment that was real. All the other kids in here are having internet ganbangs with each other over this “kids toy” 86 🤣
i bought my first new car from St Charles Toyota, my old neighbor was the sales manager when the FRS first came out, he let me have a go in one for a little bit
I love that you guys work with local businesses for things in your videos and in your personal cars.
I love the idea of this car and the execution is interesting. I hope you'll share a thought or two about how it suits drivers who are over age 21. I am well and far into that demographic and I still miss the old 3-series that I drove in the early 90s.
Same - looks like a good candidate for my mid-life crisis car.
@@HubbaBubbaDummiThicc i have a somewhat dry sense of humor.
Lol i was a bit confused reading this
@@oleyeller3256 me using HIS words yes.
Congrats on the new car. Excited for the series!
I'm looking forward to following your testing, the mods you make, and your feelings about the car through all of that. As a 2022 BRZ buyer I'm interested in issues you run into, how much improvement the modifications make, and trade offs. Thanks again for all the two of you do.
Ha ha! Just heard recently many car review journalists bought either BRZ or 86! You guys boosted the car business a lot! And this is good!👏👏👏👏
Hey awesome! Long term ACTUAL OWNERSHIP coupled with SG intricacy.
I'm happy your channel giving the platform another try. The first one gave savage alot problems so hope you have better experience with the new one
"Will I look cool in it"..... and people told me that they DON'T buy a car for a personal image.
Everyday driver, topher and now gorilla Jack getting one. Enthusiast love machine
Nice move buying a new 86! I wonder what the result would be if you keep the stock springs but replace the cheap dampers for some better ones, such as ohlins or Bilstien?
Beyond excited for this series. You guys are addressing all the questions and concerns I have regarding this car.
very excited for this series--considering getting one myself as a first new car first MT
1:23 I saw that Eurobeat. I too, have been Running in the 90's
Awesome content as always. I sold a ND2 Miata and bought the 22 BRZ. Great car, but imo not as fun as the Miata. So back to a Miata I go! Looking forward to see what you do with the GR86 though.
Out of curiousity - what do you prefer more w/ the Miata?
Interesting, have an ND1 and I'm looking at the new 86 🤔
So I bought my 2022 BRZ base manual for 29,500 Canadian from a dealership in Barrie Ontario.
Plans: LS swap
@L W i don't think this car is in Forza.
How about buying a long term Russian mail order bride? How does that hold up against a Ukrainian mail order bride?
The Ukrainian bride should be less violent and controlling
This channel deserves so much more credit!
@@kamilb8232 it reviews all kinds of cars. This isn't a super car channel that reviews cars people can't buy
@@oficina_moomoo ever seen Toyotas factory ppf lmfao
I plan to get a manual GR86 in red within the next few years. Such a good car for the money.
The fact that 3 youtube channels I watch all announced that they're buying this car...........it's a sign
Looking forward to this series. Shoutout to Counterspace Garage. They're they best!
This series has me very hyped, I've had the BRZ on my list for next car and this will answer a lot of my questions. I live not too far from where Jack is so I'm no stranger to Midwest winters.
I LOVE the plans you detailed for this - cannot wait for it all to start.
I bought one. Everyday driver. And now savage geese!!! Everyone wants one!!!
2013! Crazy to believe this car has been around for 10 years now. Still feels like just yesterday I bought my 2015 FR-S.
I secured a spot for a manual gr86 premium build. Put money down but now I just wait for one to be allocated to me. I can’t wait to get my hands on this car. I’m sure this will be a classic down the road as well. Man I can’t wait!!
Everyday drivers has done the same! Buy an 86! This is an indication that this car is for drivers. Or a fight from east against west, youtube car channels!!😆 Both channels does a great job in their own way. I listen to both and I'm leaning toward you guys!
Shout out to the dealership for asking sticker in today's economy, and prioritizing their local economy/customers.
I drove two Massachusetts winters with my old FRS. All you need are good snow tires and that car has enough grip to get you through the winter.
Can't wait to get into the thick of this series. Thanks for putting this together
1 of the best new driver's cars out there!
Omg the soft jazz at the 4:00 mark took all my tension and stress away.. cool car too.
Awesome tip about having PDI done but not washing. I have a '22 Veloster N arriving in about 2 weeks, gonna make sure I tell my finance manager that when he calls me telling me the car's arrived.
Grew up near St. Charles and worked at the Charlestown Mall where some filming was done. Good people and great area.
These GR86s tempt me so much. Right now in an Audi S4 and it’s a blast but man i’ve been craving a manual lately and these sound like so much fun
I'm so glad you're doing this series!!
You just had to get the same color as Everyday Driver didn't you. Thank you for going through the rigors of GT86 ownership for us the viewers.
Nice 86 BTW!
super excited for the track content! I put csg pads on my first gen brz and they completely transformed the way the car brakes
