@@geraldlafleur7776 The intake manifold of the Olds 455 is wider than that of the 350 due to the taller deck of the 455, so that would be easily discovered. On the other hand, the Olds 403 would have the same width intake/deck height - a teardown *would* be necessary to discover that.

Never underestimate the power of the Rocket 🚀 Olds..
W-31's had standard 350 Olds heads, but with the 455's bigger intake/ exhaust valves and longer duration cam lift. Very little vacuum tho, for power brakes.
That's why they were screamers and made such good power throughout the entire power band...

They are super rare because as soon as the Ram Air 4 heads came out they had bigger intake ports to compliment the round exhaust ports whereas the Ram Air 2's had more of a standard intake port so the Ram Air 4's were considered the hot ticket from then on. Nice cars, but neither of them ran anywhere near that well when new. 13.90-14.50 range would be more like it. Would love to know how each of these two cars are set up today.

I had a 1970 F-85 W31. I couldn’t beat the big block GTO’s or 396’s. Mine had a 4spd. 3:90’s and no stripes from the factory. Bench seats, dog dish hubcaps, 138 W31’s on F-85 chassis. Mine was the only one that left the factory without stripes.

I was the owner of two 4-4-2s. A 66 and a 72. My 66 had a 1970 W-30 455. My favorite 2 wins was against a 66 group with the 389 tri- power and a 68 super bee. Though I never seen the motor in the super bee the owner says it was a 426 hemi. He would not show his motor to anyone. Over the years I raced him five times. Won 4.
