- Today on Austin's Off Road Garage we help a buddy out after his 4Runners 3.4L V6 lost oil pressure and threw a rod through the block. we pull the old 3.4L V6 out and slap a new used 3.4L V6. Enjoy!!

@@scottpetrie8707 I wish! I have +4.5” long travel on my 4Runner, so both the UCA and LCA are 4.5 inches longer than stock. Look up BTF Fabrication, they’re the ones who made my arms.

It ran out of oil. It was supercharged before I bought it a little over a year ago, so I guess it developed bad blow-by and burned a ton of oil.

Nice imma about to do swap my 3.4 as well.. fawkiin blew it as well... i think both my transmission and long block. Imma go get a couple 3.4 at the junk yard just to rebuild. It's my first time just for back up.. since i have a 02 tacoma and a 3rd gen 4runner

You were able to pull the motor with the trans/t-case still mounted up? I heard you say someone was prying between the bell housing and motor but I'm surprised you had enough room up front to do that even with the rad pulled. Im about to do the exact same thing so if I don't have to pull the trans that would be great.
in this video we separated the trans from the engine. In another video we pulled all of it at one time, but we did cut the radiator support out of the way.

Is it possible to put a 19’-22’ corolla engine in a 3rd gen 4runner for better reliability & horsepower or it’ll still be slow cause it needs a v6 to tow. I mean dodge does it with their crate engine & they put them in 70’ chargers & 70’ challengers
Questions for you: Daughter has a 00 Manual Trans, Head gaskets were improved in 01 right? will an 01-02 automatic engine work in hers? How do I pick a good used one? JDM isn't the way? Thanks
As long as you keep the manual harness it should work. I have a JDM replacement in my rig works great.

What took out the dead 5VZ? Since this isn’t supercharged I’m a little surprised to see this. It looks like a well maintained vehicle.
Looks can be deceiving. I would say a lack of maintenance caused this. The owner did say it was previously supercharged... but who knows..
man I just lost cylinder 3 and 5 holes on both sides of the block at 5k rpm I guess it was about time 360k miles on it

Does this just plug in to the existing harness or do you have to slice it in to the 4runner ignition?
Are you talking about the engine?
This was a direct replacement. Like for like so the harness was the same.
The fuel system doesn’t begin to prime until the engine is turning over... just for future reference when diagnosing anything fuel related.

@@austinsoffroadgarage No problem! Sorry, what I should’ve said is the fuel pump starts when the starter engages to start the engine, no priming. This channel is awesome! Love the truck dude!

By any chance you have an 01 4runner 3.4 complete diagram that I can use and we can talk thro email to make agreement for letting me use the diagram. I'm also doing a engine replacement. I've done all the work myself but it's just I can't remember where everything is at. I'm stuck it's daily been going at it for 1 months while working. Please 🙏

Should have done a turbo diesel swap on it for more low end torque

How did the oil end up running out of the old engine? Trying not to be paranoid over here haha
Old engines have worn out piston rings and start consuming almost 4-5 quarts every 1000 miles.
@@NaveenKumar-oj7xh I understand that, but I don’t think that’s what happened here. I think I read somewhere that he recently changed the oil. Not sure though
How much does a swap like this cost? I have a 3rd gen 4Runner that needs a new engine and haven’t been able to find much information about costs. The video is fantastic!

HELP YOTA PEOPLE HELP!!! My automatic 2000 4runner engine made it to 260k. I Just ordered a jdm 3.4 5vzfe engine for it. Got it delivered to the mechanic shop Monday. He calls today.. Says the oil pan is different and he's not sure if it'll work? Asked if there was a difference between the 2x4 and 4x4. What the heck does that have to do with the engine? Said the oil dipstick is in a different place so wouldn't they just be able to swap my engine's oil pan with the JDM 3.4 5VZFE I just bought? Then something about the exhaust would need changed!?!?! Like I'm freaking out. I dropped 2k on this JDM Engine from FLORIDA and live in OKLAHOMA. I am supposed to meet the mechanic at his shop at 8am in the morning and he's going to show me what he's talking about. I'm again freaking out. Does anyone know if all is good and he's just going to need to use my old engines oil pan and sump pump and he's over reacting.... or even clueless? What the ever loving shit have I gotten myself into. Help my fellow 3.4 yota people!!!!!!!!!
