I love that you highlight the importance of good husbandry and diet in raising healthy reptile babies. Trying to find proper veterinarian care for a reptile isn't always easy. A great reminder that prevention is the best protection. Greatest appreciation 😊
That was "My first"....Reptile that was a pet! Before watching his channel. I was brand new to UA-cam and his channel was my first UA-cam experience. That was 3 years ago. I learned about NERD from Clint. I learned about Tom Crutchfield from you guys. I had NEVER seen domestic reptiles before and my mind was Blown!🤯
Pumping out the content! I'd love to hang out in that reptile room full of turtles. I'd grab a pillow and lay down with them, though I'd expect to get trampled. It must of felt different being the one behind the camera asking questions. Kegan did awesome, you're an amazing teacher.
Great class, you have taught Keegan well. The blues are really stunning. Getting their Ya's Ya's out, and their Terrible Twos, lol. Thanks Kevin and Keegan.🦎👍

Kevin I love seeing how much you care about these animals, you can really tell that they mean a lot to you. I love the cute chubby cheeks that male tegu get, freaking adorable. Thank you for sharing these animals with us and continuing to educate everyone about these amazing animals.
Great video and very informative. I saw a bunch of happy tortoises, iguanas and Tegus. Such a cool enclosure with other enclosures in the wall, I really like that. 🐍 🦎
Funny how you put the kid on the spot and you answers your own questions from behind the camera 😂 love how you interact with the animals ☺️ and wonderful to see how they come up to you and askes for attention 🥰 you have to teach the kid to where a cap on his head not loose on his eyebrows 🤣🤣
3:00 As a tiny bit of curiosity, here in Argentina (where they are native), black-and-white tegus are just known as egg-eating lizards ("lagarto overo"). A classmate of mine at university had a black-and-white tegu... by complete accident. As in, literally, he was with his family on vacation and accidentally ran over one, and when they took the tegu to a veterinarian, they were just told... to keep it. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries, just a bit of a broken tail.
@@NewEnglandReptile I'm currently in the process of moving my Tegu to her adult enclosure and was worried about what an expensive UVB setup I would need for such a large area. It would be fantastic if I could just move the one in her 36" and call it a day.
I remember back when Tegus were considered wicked nasty. You could get them for under $40 retail (my wholesaler 25/30 years ago sold them for around $15). Captive breeding has brought these guys a long way.
I broke a nice glazed pot years ago, it's my Ball's favorite hide, right under his light. I came to reptiles late in life and my family teases me that I've spoiled the snake. Wish I'd gotten into Tegus, they're so cool.
Hi Kevin, I loved the Tegu video. I have a question for you. We have a bearded dragon my daughter wanted one for her birthday 3 years ago. I love reptiles so it was no problem to become the main caretaker of our girl. Long story short, our bearded dragon dislikes or better yet hates eating any kinds of greens, veggies or fruit. The only thing she eats once in a blue moon is blueberries and occasionally dandy lion leaves. Anything else, she won’t touch. She will wait till the salad dries up and then pick out her worms. What can I do to make her eat greens, or are there some lizards that prefer an insects diet over veggies? Heck, I even bought some expensive flower toppings. Thank you for your help.
Ok. Spoiled in some cases. In other cases the temps are not right and the live in the fringe. Her hot spot should be around 110-120f. Ambient about 80. I suggest shallow soaks in water two To Three times a week to See if she drinks. If husbandry and set up Are good.uv light with basking , calcium And d3 then she could just be spoiled and you have to Let her go hungry and mix in other items for a wider diet. They are color oriented too!!! Bright colors and green can get their interest.
You have a "creep" of tortoises there, I love it! Your links to your shop don't seem to work, is there a way to support your work? I love your videos!!!

Kevin, is there a lizard species you would recommend for newish keepers that doesn't get as large as a green or rhino igauana, or b&w tegu, that isn't a gecko and only requires an herbivorous diet?
Well, I’d say a bearded dragon but that also needs insect protein etc.. Blue tongue skink also but needs animal protein otherwise excellent to consider. Uros also that but path we my herbavior and tons of seeds legumes.

Hi guys, hope you are all doing well! I know this is a Tegu video but something Kegan mentioned when talking about brumating them got me thinking so I hope you don't mind my asking a non-Tegu question 😂 Last year we attempted to brumate our Hermann's tortoise and she decided that she didn't want to stop eating and go to sleep for weeks. We were trying to figure out why so we can try again this winter and Kegan mentioned the box being opaque. Is this the same with tortoises? We had her in a translucent bin with paper and stuff in there and then the box went into a cupboard so we thought it would be dark enough - could this be why she refused? She's a 2018 hatchling (I think) so should be old enough now. Will using an opaque box/bin make much difference? Also, do you put a water dish in with your tortoises too? Our girl is a nightmare for not drinking from her water dish so we usually end up soaking her a couple of times a week to keep her hydrated. Is it worth putting one in with her when we try again this year? Thanks in advance for any info/advice you can give, it will be greatly appreciated. Also, thanks for continuing to make such great videos! Love to you all from the UK 💜
