Tbh monitors and tegus are ridiculously smart the black throat prob did really hate him. When my tegu went through her teenage phase I had to befriend her all over again.
For tegus though if you think about it they are in an incredibly awkward phase. I didn't really experience Guberty with my boy, but I think that's partially because when I took him out I would put him in pockets (of appropriate size). After he outgrew my hoodie pocket though was when I could let him free roam and usually he was always the most chill under covers. I would share his space with him constantly, so he was never territorial with me. My hypothesis on it is once they get to that size point they have more difficulty hiding, so they are going to be a bit more defensive. By giving them more areas to hide and deeper substrate I feel like it negates some of that aggression especially when you put the clothing you wore into the enclosure with them. It really makes a difference and when I felt my boy was starting to feel insecure I actually would start putting my clothes in with him again (something I did when he was a hatchling) and I would frequently find him either in the clothes or buried under it. It kind of became a security thing and he would mellow out. I suggest it for any tegu owner though sharing space is really important and what Kevin states here is such crucial info ^^

Lizards are similar to children, they are always paying attention and learning. It's very easy to cause them unwanted stress. I had reptiles growing up too. My mom taught me how to care for them. She loved nature. I do too. I also had two large Aquariums and two bedrooms for my fish and reptiles. We kept them in separate rooms with temperature controlled environments. One room was for the cold blooded the other for aquatic plants and animals. We grew plants for Aquariums and sold them. I made plastic plants and rocks. We also built Aquariums and fountains. I am autistic and an artist and my mom found out how to help me stay calm and stress free, that's why we started the business. Also, Our lizards were family members they hangout with the family a lot. They would beg to be held and liked watching TV and playing video games. I do miss them. I am handicapped so I can't care for animals anymore, my mom helped me. She passed away in 2016. I did have a giant African bullfrog named Fed, he was my frog child. After he passed I quit the business and never got another animal until I was older and I adopted a cat. I guess it's in my blood to want to be with animals. I suffer a lot if I don't have a companion. They teach us so much too. All life is intelligent and it's us that are ignorant. We humans like to humanise other creatures and that's not okay.
Singing works.... so does giving them REALLY sweet and endearing names. I had a really angry male burm that I rescued, and he was the first and only snake I ever had to use a hook with. My retic was a giant teddy bear. The burm acted everything that moved lol. So I named him Princess Buttercup, and he calmed down pretty quick. He still had his moments but he ended up becoming a real sweet heart after working with him for awhile lol

Wat always amazes me is that the staff that works with these animals are professionals too with loads of experince and respect for these animals you can hear their own passion and love for these beautiful creatures when they talk. Yet they look so clumsy and awkward compared to Kevin. I could watch Kevin handel and talk about these animals all day. He really has a gift. ❤
Do those snakes always stay in those cages? They are very small that's why I was asking... Beautiful pythons they are my favorite.I had many ball python's...only because I don't have the room for any larger Burmese or Reticulated Pythons...They are absolutely beautiful 💜 I do like Boa's but I don't have experience with them... Great video ⭐⭐
Pretty amazing. Have a question or y’all. I’m a 38yr old paralyzed Marine n I’m wanting to get a socialized water monitor from y’all. I like the ones with yellow in em. Would a female monitor be better for me since I’m paralyzed or do y’all feel like I could still handle a male? I’d love to call n talk to Kevin about it n when their available I’d fly up to get tutorials. I understand his time is valuable so I don’t have a problem paying for all the advice he could give me.
I plan on getting reptiles, though it is not the right time yet. Though once I get to the actual preparation phase I will binge watch anything you uploaded on bonding with them.
All you guys are awesome especially Kevin... y'all are so intelligent and caring with all your animals! Love you all bunches! I also love that Kevin gives great husbandry skills of how to care for certain issues that a vet doesn't do. Kevin is the greatest reptile vet for sure! So so intelligent, oh I already said that didn't I..🤣...Please reply with a website or link to donate to NERD or a monthly support subscription with financials for the animals y'all care for? I looked in the description area below but didn't see a link for the type of support I'm inquiring about.
Idk how often they take theirs out, but many pythons prefer the small enclosures. Mine specifically has a massive setup and still spends 100% of her time crammed into a hide
I have to give you kudos for the interest, care, and responsible attention you give your snakes and critters. From a guy who thinks you are nuts. LOL. Not creatures I'm "fond" of, but who does respect the circle of life and the parts everything plays in it.
I got a wold caught black throat back in the 90s I was 16 or so. I took it out of the box and grabbed the bag in a similar fashion. Not fun having a monitor lizard attached to your finger through the bag. Lesson learned
Hoping the black throated monitor likes Kevin better than his previous human (who was just trying to keep him alive). Maybe you can let us know how he is adjusting in the near future. Beautiful retics, the pied you first took out is really stunning and I was wondering if Brian got Al Machino from NERD. I suffer a lot if I don't have a companion. They teach us so much too. All life is intelligent and it's us that are ignorant. We humans like to humanise other creatures and that's not okay.
Wow, those Madagascar boas are gorgeous!!’🐍❤️🐍
🤗🤗🤗
I do that spin the animal high in the air trick with my niece and it seems to work even on humans!
I'm dying! He's crashed on your knees. 🙂🙂😘
Just a little cold 🤗
@@NewEnglandReptile I often wonder just how much of many reptiles' willingness to be handled is that we are nice and warm.
The Madagascar Ground Boas are beautiful and outstanding. Very sad they have few babies. I hope NERD is able to breed as many as possible.
I'm sure it is going to happen
I wish people would mail me mysterious angry lizards.
You are seriously a Zen Master of reptiles!
What do you do with the relics for enrichment? Do they always have no substrate?
I all so love how much I learn of your videos
Great info Kev 👍🏾 I've been waiting for you to do a video like this for how to tame an already aggro animal. Thank you. Oh & im loving the Tegu I bought from you a few weeks ago. Great animal ❤ just gotta figure out its sex
Hi Kevin awesome video always really interesting & those Madagascan ground boas, beautiful. Cheers everyone from down under 🦘🦘🦎
Noted!
Absolutely love black throats ❤️ came to the best guy to tame him down too 👍👍👍 keep up the good work guys 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Do the relics have exercise/enrichment out of their cages?
Kevin always handles his animals 🤘 his handling time and techniques seem to be their enrichment. My ackie climbs all over me exploring. And it's great bonding too 😎
Wat always amazes me is that the staff that works with these animals are professionals too with loads of experince and respect for these animals you can hear their own passion and love for these beautiful creatures when they talk.
Great Vlog!! Thank you for your knowledge!
Great morning waking up to a video from y’all. By far the best reptile place in the USA. Y’all rock.
Morning! How you doing Colin!?
Please keep on watching! It means the world to us
I can't get over how good he was with that monitor. He had the little guy absolutely basking in the back pats.
You all rock! I love your guy's channel!!
So loving your channel! ❤😊
Kevin is the best!!! Love from Switzerland/Hungary xx
Thank you for such a important information videos I always learn such a lot from you all the time
Do the larger snakes live their lives in those cabinet enclosures. Do they ever get to go out and stretch?
Lastly, I was wondering if the las boa you showed has live babies since it only has a few. Great job, Thanks for the upload.
Brenda I'll keep you posted on it! Unfortunately, Kevin has really gotten somewhere with it quickly.. because its acting like it never had an attitude problem lol
Those Madagascan Ground Boas are absolutely stunning! If anyone can socialize that Black Throat, it’s the EvilMorphGod!
Awe, thanks for leaving a some love christine!!I 😚😚
Even the world's angriest lizard will become a Tsundere when they're cold and you, a warm blooded animal, pick them XD. All they want to do is cuddle until they've warmed up XD
You should link other vids in the cards (ie the underrated video of the snake biting itself 😂)
