Rick Graham Dude!!! got to tell you, try clinic video you posted, I've only watched and practiced the inside, outside loving thing and it already helped me. Thanks a ton!!!!
Rick Graham himself says in his bio, "It was at 17 years of age whilst studying performing arts at college that he finally discovered the instrument that felt most natural to him: the guitar." He has achieved an entirely other level at this point in his life, so this doesn't shock me. To achieve what he has been able to do today would have required this sort of prodigy.
Rick you must not of seen daylight for them 2 years learning to play like this... ive been playing around 12 years and my technique even now doesnt compare to this
I was amazed when I saw Jason Becker for the first time, because at age 16 he was already a virtuosso, but the thing is that he started playing when he was a little kid (still impressive though), but now I see Rick playing like a Guitar god after 2 years since he started with the guitar... I don't have words.
I'm 19 now haha. I've been playing for a year and practice 5-6 hours a day. I'm like 30% of where this man is in this video this is just pure incredible
He is extremely talented, but what confuses me is, why is he not in a band? He could play with anyone out there! His guitar teaching package is a steal of a deal!
MUCH more of a muture player now,.......it might scare people but I knew about 8 player's just in my neighborhood who played like this in the 1980's......great time to play guitar,....no youtube,...cellphones,...so yeah everyone was playing an ASSLOAD everyday,.....
bullshit, you have no judgment of real excellence, and the easiness in which it comes out like in this totally improvised video without looking at his hands, rarely ever a unknown player of this level has surfaced the earth. I was a EVH clone in 1981 myself at 16 and the only one I've ever seen around was me in the 80ties in Holland, there were not that many of us and all top level guys were in LA Berkelee. Never ever have I seen an unknown guy in concert or in a guitarshop of the level of RG, even up to today, even in this video he outplays Vai, Satch and Yngwie. Too bad he has never been engaged in the mega rock band he deserved., and I think it is part of his current psychological problem,, giving his knowledeg away for free on YT to a bunch of easy copycats is not as gratifying as he pretends.
Rick Graham: "It's like cumming! I'm cumming when I rock, I'm cumming when I jazz. When I sweep those arps, when I shred in front of 5000 people I get the same feeling, so I am cumming day and night! It's terrific, right?"
It's definitely a gift for a 2 years experience it's in his DNA I think because muscle memory can be passed through DNA maybe he inherited this skills through his great great grand father and that's why I think he is already a prodigy in just 2 years of playing guitar
When your a kid who doesn't have to worry about going to school, getting grades or doing a job then you can get enough time to practice in a day that will make you that good in two years. The rest of us can't because we have other shit to do side by side.
Dhruv Prakash what you are saying is true to a degree, but even if all of us had the time to practice everyday all day, few if any would ever come close to this level
Theres no way that this was 2 years into playing. No one has that much technique after 2 years. Someone is fibbing about when they started playing guitar.
2 years of practicing 10 hours a day … this level of technique is totally attainable. The key is really in how and what you practice. I’d even go as far to say that nowadays, if you use a UA-cam channel to document your progress AND you’ve just started to hit puberty, kids these days can probably develop this level of technique in less time than 2 years - simply because the added competitiveness will spur them on. Will they be able to write songs? Probably not very well, not yet. Would they be of any use in a band, not unless they were playing with other musicians regularly all those months. They’ll most likely have little theory training, since tablature is so much easier for most people. They’ll be able to shred and show off at guitar stores and party’s, and you need more than that to be a successful guitarist for a living. Just take a listen to anything Rick Graham has posted on his channel in the last 2 years, his phrasing, melodic sense, and composition ability have all been keenly honed and developed since this musical masturbation session was shot. Don’t get me wrong, the technical skills he displays here are phenomenal, but all these comments like “impossible, I’ve played for * years and can’t do that!” are all people who have not been pushing themselves to the edge of their limits when they practice, Rick Graham did.
Lucas ThompsonI think with a good method you can reach this level in less than 2 years. I played covers of Vinnie Moore with 3 years of practique...if I remember but with no teacher and without internet or youtube years ago.
minor 7ths, minor major 7ths, and some sus2/9 stuff... with the highest notes tapped with the pick hand. Check out Rick's "Shred Training with Rick Graham | Ep1. Killer Arpeggios" for concrete examples, broken down and explained.
jamesha175 metaphorically, it is a crazy fucking retarded fast space ship that can fold dimensions and if you look at the speedometer, your face melts and nearby stars explode… what it’s not is brain surgery, or, and I’m just being honest here, all that melodic or memorable. Musically it’s just Rick going all Louis C.K. and masturbating on all of us. That said, the level of sheer technical skill and mastery required to execute those arpeggios, is simply incredible.
wtf would he gain by lying? there is 730 days in 2 years, that is plenty of time for a highly determined person. This is nothing more than pattern memorization and patient metronome work.
It’s not the amount of years you e been playing, it’s the amount of hours you properly practice each day. Rick said himself that at this point he was practicing 8-12 hours a day!
Most of the greats develop their technique in about 2 years.. Shawn Lane says he had his technique down by the time he was about 13, Yngwie wrote Rising Force when he was about 15! Reality is with focus you probably get about 99% of your 'technical skill' very early on, then learning theory and writing etc can be developed forever.
All about how much you practice and what. And what you strive to sound like. I only played Nirvana and punk... And Zelda themes lol.. my first 4 years. Was shown Steve Vai in the Crossroads movie & parts of Satriani's Crystal Planet album on the same night in June of 99 after never knowing that type of stuff existed. Complete opposite of what I was even into. I was a different human before Eugenes Trick Bag even came on. And played unmeasurable levels better by September that year as I immediately went home and never put my guitar down again.. or played Nirvana. Still obsessed with Zelda and pretty much all themes from any random thing I'm into....
I've seen 8 year olds like Lisa X and other young ass kids shred like monsters after a few years. They just practiced PROPERLY unlike so many of us. When you think about it, all it really is is teaching your fingers to move in precise tiny little patterns, using very very minimum force. They practiced slower and more precisely a lot more often and with a lot more concentration than we did.
He said in his interviews that he played violin, and his brother taught him stuff. So he had moved his fingers a bit. Two...he knows how to problem solve. Three...anybody can shred if they practice. Its not that hard.
Took me 12 years to be nowhere near this level lol! To be fair I had a 4 year break where I didn't play at all, felt like I was starting from scratch when I started again...
Rick a late bloomer at the guitar? that's bullshit.... the guys a virtuoso no doubt but i certainly doubt he's a self procaimed late bloomer..... my guess is that he started playing at around 11 years old
never understood why age matters to people. a highly determined person can learn these things very quickly. what would he gain by lying about his starting age?
He was already doing eeeeeeeextremely well when 19 .
Well, they say that the level your at 21-22 is the peak. After that you’ll never have the time to practice that much again.
@@henrikduende glen tipton would like to know your location
@lauriemonk he shoots he scores.........
Rick Graham Dude!!! got to tell you, try clinic video you posted, I've only watched and practiced the inside, outside loving thing and it already helped me. Thanks a ton!!!!

Who cares about age...he was a monster already !!! total madness !!
Rick you must not of seen daylight for them 2 years learning to play like this... ive been playing around 12 years and my technique even now doesnt compare to this
That’s because it’s more than practice time. He’s gifted.
He did say around this point he used to practice for around 8-12 hours nearly everyday which is insane lol
I was amazed when I saw Jason Becker for the first time, because at age 16 he was already a virtuosso, but the thing is that he started playing when he was a little kid (still impressive though), but now I see Rick playing like a Guitar god after 2 years since he started with the guitar... 2 years of playing seriously?? :o
2 years my ass...
He is extremely talented, but what confuses me is, why is he not in a band? He could play with anyone out there! His guitar teaching package is a steal of a deal!
Rick started playing violin and switched to guitar at 17...so it says!!! He must’ve practiced 24/7 for 2 years to get this good that fast!
After 2 years, I was still playing EVH licks somewhat decently. What the hell, Rick.
At 0:55 he is playing Jason Becker:Temple of the absurd!! Cooool!
YEEEEEEEEEEEEAH
Tennosuke Tokoro that one it the best part
MUCH more of a muture player now,.......it might scare people but I knew about 8 player's just in my neighborhood who played like this in the 1980's......great time to play guitar,....no youtube,...cellphones,...so yeah everyone was playing an ASSLOAD everyday,.....

Yeah.....I’m gonna have to watch that again
he can play better in two years than i can in six....:(
Rick is awesome ! One of my favorite. 💪😁😊
***** where??
No link....!
I'm following you already.
But you gotta make videos on UA-cam, so we can see them. No one else has that problem Steve.
It's like what they said about Arnold Schwarzenegger .. by 19, he had all the muscle mass he would ever need.
Rick Graham: "It's like cumming! I'm cumming when I rock, I'm cumming when I jazz. When I sweep those arps, when I shred in front of 5000 people I get the same feeling, so I am cumming day and night! It's terrific, right?"
Yeah but Arnie started taking steroids when he was 17 or 18.
Rustesco Farooley that was beautiful man haha
@AJD OLD CHANNEL ARCHIVE I wonder if there's something like guitar steroids?
Guys, gotta tell your, a good guitar and a good teacher and the proper practice make a world of difference.
Kidding. Unbeliveable.
I just watched a video where Rick states he was a late starter at 17.Amazing.
Toda una Vida dedicada a la musical I love Rick
Goddamn. He makes it look so easy. He already played 3 times better than me and I've been playing for 10 years now :'(
Madness and talent is what I just saw😱🤘💪🎸
It's definitely a gift for a 2 years experience it's in his DNA I think because muscle memory can be passed through DNA maybe he inherited this skills through his great great grand father and that's why I think he is already a prodigy in just 2 years of playing guitar
this is the RG I remember :)
this is crazy
The guy with the camera is so funny 😂😂😂
Ah, now we all know what you started with on guitar. Time to learn some of that.
rick graham amazing...
i dont believe neither
maybe 2 years of intensive practice, after years and years of fiddling around
The Best Guitar Player... 👍
2 years? Okay he's a prodigy.
When your a kid who doesn't have to worry about going to school, getting grades or doing a job then you can get enough time to practice in a day that will make you that good in two years. The rest of us can't because we have other shit to do side by side.

old is gold
Although I'm not a fan of shredding, you sure can pick!!!!!
Awesome! Anyone know what guitar Rick was playing at that time? Love that glassy tone.
Lukas Saul That is an RG550
Juniorr Here looks to be 89, or early 90's RG 550
Better tapper than Halen at 19.
nice Jason Becker cover in there. Cant wait for the album rick!
@shadowknight132 Rick himself posted it online a few years back.
Rick is great but 2years no no
WOW !!! EXCELLENT!!
@TheNylonStrings That's an Ibanez RG550. I have the same in blue from '89. :)
love the Becker stuff-----starting at --1:00------
Now I feel like shit
2 years of playing at this stage?!
Well fuck my life. That is depressing. Just insane.
Makes me want to quit after ~14 years of playing!
很想了解下在西方国家这些专业吉他手可以以什么为生?做老师吗?
Theres no way that this was 2 years into playing. No one has that much technique after 2 years. Someone is fibbing about when they started playing guitar.

You don't even need 10 hours a day, far from it. 2 hours a day, with a focus practice, will do wonder in a very short time.
Rick Graham was still in the womb when he made this video.
goddamn he must have played for SO many hours every day
So right now he's about 26 or 27 yrs old?? He's one of my favorite guitarist but damn, I would of guessed he's in his 40s.😕
he is 42 actually :)
03:18 fire and ice very nice senkron \m/
So why didn't you join megadeth when marty left?
The XD beer.
man you are the monster!!!!!
fire and ice!
Rick
Can anyone tell me the type of arpeggios he’s doing from 2:09 to about 2:24 ?
no
man, they are just arpeggios played very fast.
it's not a space ship.
minor 7ths, minor major 7ths, and some sus2/9 stuff... with the highest notes tapped with the pick hand. Check out Rick's "Shred Training with Rick Graham | Ep1. Killer Arpeggios" for concrete examples, broken down and explained.

Temple of the absurd!! Cool :)
My eye is just twitching at the monstrosity of a god on the guitar . How can someone be this amazing
I heard temple of the absurd at 0:55 and jet to jet at 3:18. Great video!!!
I call BS on 2 years of playing....this dude had been playing since he was a young child.
wtf would he gain by lying? there is 730 days in 2 years, that is plenty of time for a highly determined person. This is nothing more than pattern memorization and patient metronome work.

3:17 Jet to jet solo :)
*fire and ice intro
@Chisuz yeah that seems to be more realistic. after two years you can´t be good at all the techniques he does in the video
He looks like a young Jaco Pastorius!
I hate you Rick.
I wanna know what he's playing through; it sounds sick.
Where you got this video?
2 years ....never...
Oops oops... temple of the absurd... becker
Anyone know the arpeggiated piece at 01:22?
Jade Louise Tidman its part of temple of the absurd by jason becker

A savant no doubt.

So essentially he was always that good lol
2 years of playing? BS
not if he's only doing the eruption tapping section. That's easy.
I've seen 8 year olds like Lisa X and other young ass kids shred like monsters after a few years.

exactly if you talk about daily practice its about quality and not quantity
He said in his interviews that he played violin, and his brother taught him stuff. So he had moved his fingers a bit.
Two...he knows how to problem solve.
Three...anybody can shred if they practice. Its not that hard.
John 17 he had prior training in music so it was easy for him to pick up the instrument
man he sure dont look 19 u are kidding fret barclaying
0:55 becker !!!!
What ? In two years ?
Yeah that how I was playing at 19... NOT!
Wtf 👌🎸
2 years ??? i don't know Rick, looks fake
Two years? It took me 11 years to be close to this level 😕
