I very from super fine to medium also course crushed glass just like a painter would use different grades of sand paper for different applications. I buy it pre made I use way too much to make my own. Plus the media I buy is 99.9% perfect and always the size I order. Only takes a bad batch and it will clog all the time or ruine the job so a good media source is key
Hi Mick, thanks for your informative videos, great to watch sadly 😀 I noticed on one comment reply you mostly use crushed glass. Do you have any problems with the fine grade?? My supplier up in Cumbria struggles with grade consistency as I say especially on the fine and I get flow problems! Do you recommend any other suppliers? The med glass and iron silicate is no problem it's just the fine glass. Cheers
Thx it's appreciated 👌💞 I would make a complaint about it because if no one says anything how they going to know to improve it 😊 I get the odd pallet that's poor but other than that it's generally good.
@Mick Blackley SandBlaster what do you do about the decals that were blasted off? Does the owner just get new ones from the equipment manufacturer or a sign shop?
Fine plus crushed glass was used and knowing my nozzle bore won't be any benefit to you as you need to run a nozzle that's suited to your cfm charts are available online I run 260cfm to get 100 psi I need to run cdx650 that's 9mm bore I think that's 3/8" I use nozzles to set my flow instead of turning psi down on the compressor or blast pot it can be done with nozzles that's why it won't help you knowing my nozzle unless you run 260cfm - 15/20cfm for nova 3 lid all other air powered auxiliaries I run im right about 95/100psi at the tip bigger bore lower psi but still full flow to get lower psi on the pot it slows the flow that's why I use nozzles very important to match with what you have.
Paint flakes are water based and the dust you see is crushed glass none carcinogenic. I wouldn't recommend breathing it in but it's not harmful in the respect of cancer coursing.
G'day, I just stumbled on your channel, great videos! I just bought a 130cfm compressor, looking to set it up with a blaster, what do you think about the Chinese blast pots, any good? just want to restore the odd digger and truck around the farm.
I would stick with local or well known blast pots that way you can get spare parts if needed cheap import stuff in my opinion is likely to need spares to keep it going and down time could be an issue waiting for parts? But this is all speculation as I've no experience with imported blast pots 🙈
Nearly impossible for this media and psi to damage chrome although I am aware of the splash and try not to hit them so I leave some areas to get them at better angles you may see this through the video its not that I miss an area I sometimes leave it to shoot so the splash isn't going to course me hassle 👌💞
Awesome job. I haven't done heavy equipment yet. I had a call about doing an old D-6 dozer and possibly an old CAT scraper. It looks like there's places you just can't get to. I'm sure it's up to your customer but do just blast what you can get on that bigger equipment? How long did it take? What did you use for media and how much did it take? It will give me an Idea for the dozer.
I've got a dozer on the photo Reel plant video I think. Thing with this 1 he wanted as much area as possible in as least time as possible I did what I normally do on these loading shovels make a nice job of arms and fly round chassis smarten wheels up. This tuck me 1 day their is alot more done than shown but I've edited alot out as my arms get in the way etc. Not make a good video filming my hands 😂 As for media I used my own blend of crushed glass 0.4/1.4 I get my media made up how I like it 👌 as for how much it uses this would very on you as a blaster and how much air you are running how much you like coming out how fast cut rate is etc I run 260 cfm and did this in 17 bags I think I've done others and used 35+ so loads of variables at play plan for worst and hope for best 👌

Hey loved the video, was just curious what media you use for a job like this? getting into sandblasting for projects and having a hard time finding something safe and cost affective when you're not recovering the media. Thanks
Depending on where you are in the world try and find screened crushed glass I find in Australia it's the cheapest for single use and I would suggest .6 as the best all round medium to use not my video but seen you comment and thought I would give you my opinion
@@mattashford3508 thx man couldn't av put it better myself 👌💞 possibly leave the grade size out as that will depend on his cfm and his style of blasting. My go too is super fine or fine that's only down to my style tho may not be the right choice but it works for me.
Media depends on the project, coal slag is super sharp and aggressive really cuts through heavy stuff, glass is often cheap works well for some scenarios and has its drawbacks for others, walnut (or corn) shell for delicate work, blasting sand (not play sand) gets the job dohe eventually, there are plenty of media types. Most importantly is to ALWAYS wear a respirator and proper protective equipment to match the media, gloves, lungs, skin, eyes are all susceptible to the media and super fine stuff floating afound in the air. If you wanted to get adventurous and were open to reclaiming, you can get fine steel shot and just use a magnet broom for cleanup. It really reduces the dust, down to near zero, but the cost if the shot is expensive as well as the proper pressure pot. The plus side is that is hardly wears out, just keep reclaiming cleaning and reusing.
@Matt Ashford @Mick Blackley SandBlaster @SShep71 1 Thank you guys for the replies. Currently the media I'm using is glass beads and black aluminum oxide which is about $35 for 25lbs at harbor freight, which isn't really cost effective since I get through that in about 5 minutes worth of blasting. Am I way overpaying for media or is this not too far off? Maybe any suggestions about the way my equipment is set up? P.S. Its for Automotive type stuff, Rims, Leaf springs, car bodies stuff like that, also am aware of the safety concerns I wear the appropriate PPE thanks for the concern.
@@CRegent90 For the rate you are going through media it sounds like the ceramic consumable tip has a diameter that is too big for the media size. Try a smaller tip first, if the media starts to clog up the tip you may have to run it through a sift or screen to make sure there are no big pieces of media. Also, one thing to remember, blasting peens and heats up thin sheet metal, so if you blast a large surface or unsupported structure and use high pressure you are going to make a mess out of the steel. You will be there for a month trying to work the material straight with a hammer and dolly.

Hi the price is not in the job to disassemble any parts plus I'm a sand blaster not a fitter :) Not quite sure how the rest translates but I can only do what my customer asks for (If I start adding costs to remove items etc then it puts the price of the job not worth doing). I could also charge for tenting it up to stop the dust entering the landscape. Again the price is not in the job to do this! The media used and paint removed is none carcinogenic and bio degradable so no real reason to add costs to something that's not needed. The translate mentions bearings these are totally fine and not to be worried about a fresh shot of grease and they will be as good as before. please note these units are designed to work in quarries and harsh environments some soft dust (fine glass) isn't going to course failure. I know what you mean I've been running 600cfm 12bar this week and blaster fatigue well I know I've done a shift Haha yeah I don't really have use for anything bigger as I turn this down on most of my jobs so I'm not liable for any damage lol
@@Mobileblaster yeah it's hard on the body, we used to do the car carriers, rail cars, water towers, and a lot of 48 foot flat deck trailers for companies wanting to repaint. The water towers were the worst, when you're up 100 feet on a fire ladder while blasting lol.

Some questions:
What does a job like this cost?
What do you put on it after to prevent rust formation?
What kind of equipment did you use (compressor, nozzle, hopper, etc)?
For enquiries please send photos to info@mobileblasting.co.uk for quotation. I don't get involved with painting 👌👍 I use 260cfm compressor but have the option of 140cfm 180cfm too and a selection of nozzles 👍 the blast pot I use is my own build 😉

Great video Mick 👍
Thx it's appreciated 👍💞
Nice video did you use fine, crushed glass all the time? Are you already buying preparer? or do you make it yourself the crushed glass?
I very from super fine to medium also course crushed glass just like a painter would use different grades of sand paper for different applications. I buy it pre made I use way too much to make my own. Plus the media I buy is 99.9% perfect and always the size I order. Only takes a bad batch and it will clog all the time or ruine the job so a good media source is key
that air compressor must be a god damned beast.
260cfm @ 125psi it's about the biggest thing I'm aloud to pull on my licence legally 👌👍💞
Nice to have the right equipment to do it right. Its a pain with a little harbor freight.
It helps alot haha. Then the next key is good uniform dry media 👌 then we have a chance 👍💞
Hi Mick, thanks for your informative videos, great to watch sadly 😀
I noticed on one comment reply you mostly use crushed glass.
Yeah once its painted they will put new on well if the job has enough money left in it they will 👌💞
what grit do you use ? sand or steel ? i have worked whit steel G37 whit a monster blaster "firehose" thickness :D
I mainly use crushed glass assorts of different grades.
What abrasive were you using and what nozel?
Great!
Thx it's appreciated 👌💞
That's some heavy rust 😢 I gussing its worked in salt somewhere like a beach ? 👍🇬🇧
I'm unsure of its background but it looks like it's been in a harsh environment for sure
So satisfying
Thx it's appreciated 👌💞
I really like sandblasting, but this sort of sandblasting isn't good for the environment is it? Because of the dust mixed with flakes of paint.
Excellent job
Thx it's appreciated 👌💞
I have a question you replacing the cylinder because any pitting will f*#k the seals
Not make a good video filming my hands 😂
As for media I used my own blend of crushed glass 0.4/1.4 I get my media made up how I like it 👌 as for how much it uses this would very on you as a blaster and how much air you are running how much you like coming out how fast cut rate is etc I run 260 cfm and did this in 17 bags I think I've done others and used 35+ so loads of variables at play plan for worst and hope for best 👌
How I do arms is blast them down do everything then mid way up full bucket curle then fair way up and curle other way that way I get it all 👌

7 or 8 hour I cannot remember off top of my head with media usage

I've been stung with these before fine in places is way too soft and in places perfect ya know them stuburn scabs that nearly comes off well dose but takes a long time.
