A slow, deliberate operator. That’s what you want and need when doing underground. Good trench discipline, a well run operation and a good video too! Nicely done sir. 🇺🇸💪👍
Hell yeah I won’t touch those things if it’s utility work or if I got guys below me. I am DOGS SHIT. Dug a pond once turned out pretty good but I’m not smooth like this. lol. Good shit best I’ve seen.
Unreal. I'm just learning and it's amazing how smooth and efficient everything you do is. How long have you been driving for and what does that topcon device do?
Thanks mate. I've been operating now for just short of 20 years. So plenty of practice. I wasn't always as smooth as that 🤣 topcon is what's commonly known as a gps system. So on that screen I will have a drawing and that allows me to see where I am on the site. I can see the outlines of buildings, kerbs anything really that I need to know and also gives me heights. So no need to wait on engineers setting up lines etc. I just turn that on and dig like f**k as they say 🤙🤣
Nice job ... U need a stone box or a loader with a side dump or use an end dump if available as a stone box. That machine should never pull off the trench. That little bit of time goin to get stone adds up and that’s less pipe in the ground.
I do give it a little flick as I empty it, yes, but only as the clay I'm digging here is so sticky. If I didnt id be bringing half the bucket back with me.
Wow very talented with the excavator man! Although I do have to nitpick not using a stone box and having a wheel loader bring it to you instead of tracking 60’ every time you need stone.
Yeah, not ideal mate, I'll agree with ya there. We don't use wheel loaders here mate. Not on site anyway. We use dumpers but can't remember exactly why it wasn't there at that time 🤦♂️🤣
May i know what monitor is the ringing, yellow one? Didn't see before. Just discovered your videos and loved it. My 5th months on the job, still a beginner. I watch these kinds of videos to improve myself. Greetings from Turkey.
Hi. The yellow monitor is part of the topcon machine control. I have a model/drawing of the work I'm doing on the screen also so I know what I'm doing. When it makes beeping noise that is me at my correct digging depth.
Yes it is pal. Hard to imagine driving a machine now without it tbh. Tried a tilty once for 10 mins but that was it. Was only playing with it really. Maybe some day I'll operate with 1 full time but can't see it anytime soon
Good work - however I didn’t like the guy between the pipe ends in the trench - would have liked to see him clean/prep the pipe with it on lifter but outside the trench !
You have at least 3 guys standing around doing nothing while you dig. If you had a backhoe and a stone boat, you could have your stone ready to go so all you have to do is swing around a grab a bucket. That guy could also be bringing you pipe so that is ready to grab. You’re production would go up a lot
easy answer pal. I cant use what I don't have on site and we had neither a backhoe or a stone boat. not even sure what a stone boat. can only work with what ya got
@@irishdiggerman5691 you are right about that. I deal with the same issues about working with what you have. A stone boat is a container you move around with an excavator that a loader will fill with stone so you don't have to track to the pile or have the loader dump into the trench. Typically, it would sit behind or beside you and you scoop out of it and dump into your trench. Really speeds up the process of bedding/back filling. Lots of videos on them. Great work though not bashing you at all. Wish my company had gps to lay pipe with. That would really speed us up
Good morning Nickolas Most of the time the guys standing close by whilst the machine operator is busy digging is the CIVIL ENGINEER and TA. They are there to ensure he correct depth is maintained. I have learnt a new word from you called "Stone Boat!" Thank you for teaching me something new. With respect and honour from South Africa
Tbh pal your always best to have a line marked in some form or another. It doesn't take much for the machine to run off line if you have no way to gauge your position. The only other way I'd attempt to mark myself a line would be to use my tracks. Position machine where your starting dig. Use track as your marker. And track in direction you want your trench to go keeping the machine as straight as possible. It's not ideal, but if there is no other way, then it's can be used as a last resort.
In my case, I started pretty much straight out of school pal. My uncle had a construction company, so I left school and went straight into work. Started as a labourer, jumping on mini diggers every chance I could get, and it somehow progressed into where I'm at now. And yes, you need to do training and do a test to get your machine license.

@jasonbrice5039 soft ground? I'd say good ground. Any deeper then a box for sure. Steps was enough at this depth in my opinion. 👍

In an ideal world I agree 💯 with ya but things a relatively small job plus wee don't have that kind of equipment.
Definitely a loader with a side dump bucket. Have stone for the Hoe and to backfill with.
That bucket ram gets some banging!!!! Every time you enter the bucket clunk empty bucket clunk empty bucket clunk
I do give it a little flick as I empty it, yes, but only as the clay I'm digging here is so sticky. If I didnt id be bringing half the bucket back with me.

what is this beeping for? that he reached the lower level?
Yes it beeps when you get within 50mm above or below set grade.
How do you get in to this kind of job? What are the qualifications needed?
