Geode Cracking Reveals 350 Million Year Trapped Water!

  • Cracking open some geodes from world, famous locality Keokuk, Iowa !! The crazy thing is that three of these were filled with water, two of them actually dating back 350 million years ago! Sometimes the water gets trapped in place as the geode was forming, and remained in there for that entire time, so exciting when you crack, one open and the water spills out!

      That is terrible! I can imagine the value of those videos was more than the phone it's self! For my phone it backs up all my videos to the cloud when on wifi. It cost a bit but it's worth the peace of mind. Hope that never happens to you again. :(

  • @Darkt0mb5
    @Darkt0mb5 4 місяці тому

    It's generally not recommended to drink water out of a geode. Here's why:
    Unknown Minerals: The minerals inside a geode can vary depending on its geological history. Some minerals might be harmless, while others could be toxic if ingested.
    Bacteria: While geodes are often sealed for millions of years, there's a chance recent fractures or cracks could have allowed bacteria or other contaminants to enter. Stagnant water can also harbor bacteria growth.
    Unknown Chemical Composition: The water itself might have been trapped for a very long time and could contain dissolved minerals or other chemicals in unknown concentrations, potentially making it unsafe to drink.
    In short, the risks outweigh the potential benefits. There's no guarantee the water is safe, and there are much better ways to quench your thirst!

      You might be able to find a rock club, or a local rockhound to cut it for you.
      I don’t know where you are, but if you were close I’d offer to do it.
      I’m in Washington, so probably a little far 😁
      I’ve seen some UA-camrs cut a rock for someone.

    350M year old water? The water in that geode is no older that the surrounding water it was found in . Geodes aren’t water tight.
    FYI
    Geodes are formed when there are pockets of air within rocks. This often happens after volcanic eruptions when lava cools around air bubbles. These pockets leave space for groundwater to seep in. But the water itself doesn’t produce geodes-it brings along minerals which stay in the rock even after the water evaporates. The minerals then start to build on each other to form crystals. It can take thousands or even millions of years for these crystals to form. The larger the crystals are, the older the geode is.
