- After 3 years of making BuzzFeed videos, I suddenly got cut. Just wanted to tell my story of how I started making videos then ended up at BuzzFeed. Talking about all the cool videos I've been in, discussing a lot of huge issues I've seen with BuzzFeed, and thinking about what's next.

Bro I loved all the content that you were in and thank you for sharing all of this! I tried reaching out to you regarding those past series that you worked on but I’m glad to see you growing and can’t wait to see what you’ll cook up next! This type of work was a hobby to me at first as well but yeah content creation is the type of work that I want to get into for my career! I’ve been dreaming of making content since I was a little child. I could say you were one of the many inspirations. I’m back in college after 6 years of figuring out life and decided to grow this hobby into something more. I’m based in NY and it’s definitely a grind but I respect you! Keep it going 🤙🏻 would love to collab or even be an intern someday in that company you want to work on:-)
No severance for a layoff is a slap in the face. You get no severance when you're fired. I'm guessing you're not phased because you're at or near $1M net worth?
Also, I do group Buzzfeed in the same category as Cut and Jubilee in my head. I'm guessing others do too. I just haven't specifically watched them in a while because they aren't recommended much.
I enjoy your vids! was a student at berkeley (class of '21) and remember hearing your name from friends. Then at some point 2 years ago got recommended your buzzfeed dating videos because i was watching jubilee/the button vids. Then this week your "[x] rapper teaches [insert CS interview concept]" showed up in one of my social media feeds, maybe they knew I've been thinking of leaving my job. The "left my tech job to be a barista" one in particular sounds like something i was considering haha except a boba barista, i'm down to do that for a month or two
Sounds like you did a ton for buzzfeed and you have a pretty fair & nuanced perspective on your time there. I think it would have been a pretty low risk/cost and potential high pay out for them to give you a little more creative control but it is what it is I guess. Wish you the best on your future endeavors! Your tech videos were super helpful for me and my career.

Haha, to be fair, back then when those "Why I Left BuzzFeed" videos were made, the primary concern at that time was content ownership. It was a big fight producers were having with the company which is why they ended up leaving around the same time. That was before the massive layoff when BuzzFeed shifted to a more freelance heavy business model similar to major film studios. Your concerns from this video (BF not making you full time, BF killing YT content and focusing on tik tok) weren't relevant back then because it was a whole different business model at that time. Regardless, sorry you got laid off! Good luck to you in your future endeavors!
Yeah the only point I meant to discuss regarding the older producers was the ownership issues. The rest are only speciric to my experience. Thank you for the support!!
