19-YEAR-OLD Liz and Maddie Adams are a pair of fraternal twin sisters from New York. Liz was born with Goldenhar syndrome, a rare craniofacial condition that left her with a missing ear, an underdeveloped eye, a missing jaw bone, and an asymmetrical face. She had to undergo over 30 surgeries and spent the first four months of her life in ICU. Growing up with the facial difference wasn't easy, but Liz was thankful for having her twin sister by her side as they navigated the journey together. Two years ago, Liz and Maddie launched their own podcast, Courageously Kind, dedicated to kindness, acceptance, courage and inclusivity. By sharing their story, the sisters hope to raise awareness of the condition and inspire others to love their authentic and unique selves.

I hate people. She’s beautiful inside and out! I applaud people with deformities and how strong they truly are, they deal with such hateful mean people and still stand strong! I wish I had that confidence and strength genuinely.

They are both beautiful. As an identical twin myself, we always compare ourselves to each other… I could not imagine how much internal struggle that would be for both of them honestly. There would be so much guilt and like survivors guilt type of thing in a way

There's nothing wrong with your face, you're beautiful you two are fraternal twins. If you didn't have the disability you were born with. You would look just like your sister, who is naturally model pretty. Like I'm naturally not as pretty as she is. Maybe God just took all of the prettiness he was going to give you on the outside and put it into your soul instead; because that is what he knew would truly matter. You are beautiful regardless of current beauty standards and while you may be different, you do have such beautiful features. Anyone would be so lucky to have an amazing women like you in their life. It’s so crazy but I can tell they’re twins. My eyes kept playing tricks on me I couldn’t tell which one is which several times. My eyes had to focus.
