Agree with you 1000% about the back end. It would have looked so much better if they hadn't connected it across the top. The seats are one of the favorite features that my wife and I like about our Soul. They are so comfortable. Other favorite thing is the whole "interior space of a suv, that drives like a car." I've bitched about the dual-clutch so I won't repeat myself with that other than to say you were dead on with the whole full bore or nothing thing. The other thing worth mentioning is with the previous generation you could get the panoramic sunroof. They removed it for this generation. Great review as always Matt.
Yep turbo v6 awd automatic, I don't know who's running the company and making the call on all of the stingers being automatics but it's diffently someone who's a tool.
This is the best version of Kia Soul they have ever made. My lady just got one and done extensive testing. It's great! I own a Q60 so I prefer better engine but this one will do with the GT top of the line Soul. Overall, very happy with the purchase and I urge people to look outside the box. I recommend it greatly....the top line that is.
This car is so awesome! Practical and fun! My only bone with this new one is that they didn't offer and independent rear suspension or awd. But now we know why. The Kia Seltos has both of those.
I absolutely love it, I have a 2012 Soul Exclaim & never had any issues with it. I’d trade it for this but since they got rid of the leather, cooled seats, panoramic roof it’s not worth the price considering the last model was cheaper & offered those options.
Yeah, shame on KIA and their dealers for not wanting to see their highest trim model sitting unsold on dealer lots for months until they're finally sold at a significant discount.
@@stephenhendricks103 Kias, aside from the new Telluride, are typically sold at a significant discount already. Kia already effed up the Soul trim heirarchy for 2020. Way too complex, too many trims. Has to be a nightmare to stock inventory as a dealer, since you're set up for failure by the high number of vehicle configuration options. Also, the turbo is now priced too high for what it is. The LX and S trims should be combined into one level. EX trim is fine where it is. X Line without AWD is silly but OK, leave it for the wannabes. GT trim should have been turbo only and about $1500 cheaper than where it sits today. TL,DR: eliminate two trims by combining LX and S into one, and drop GT non turbo. As far as a manual option goes, I can see your argument if the end result is to drop the manual from the Soul altogether. But if you're going to have it, you might as well offer it in the GT. The Civic Si and Veloster N crowd along with the GTI shoppers would probably be attracted by such a useful vehicle with the turbo and without the crappy DCT. Something like 40% of GTIs are sold with a stick shift. Soul turbo stick would be a natural competitor.
@@rabbitruck Apparently the broader range of models hasn't been a problem for KIA. The sales of the Soul over the first six months are up over 10% compared to last year.
@@GhostOfAMachine Here's a hint. Manufacturers spend millions of dollars on market research every year to determine customer preferences. Even more importantly, manufacturers (with the exception of Tesla) don't sell their vehicles to consumers; they sell vehicles to dealers who order what their customers ask for. If neither market research nor dealers demonstrate a willingness to purchase vehicles, they won't be offered. And despite the desires of auto reviewers and self-styled "enthusiasts" for MT's most manufacturers don't detect a significant demand for MT's for all but a tiny segment of their vehicles. And KIA doesn't aim to sell their vehicles to "tiny" segments. They aim for spots where the largest number of consumers exist and for whom dealers are willing to put down hard cash to purchase.
THANK YOU MATT. I BOUGHT THE LX AND IT IS MUCH MUCH MORE ROOMIER AND LONGER. THIS SOUL MAKES MY SOUL HAPPY I HAVE HAD SO MANY PEOPLE IN MY CAR AND THEY ARE SHOCKED THEY CANNOT BELIEVE IT IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE FROM MY 2016 SOUL. Matt thanks for explaining my new vehicle. @@anthonybrunotheodd Yeahhh no. I wasn't agreeing with you. I agree it's a compact car, buts it's Excellent with more space than some hatchbacks & I'd get this easily over Sub-compact SUVs & even some compact SUVs. SUVs are played out & boring.
The Electric Soul also has pretty good tq.. plus there is no or almost no loss to wheels.. they cost a bit more. I have driven a few of them.. Its weird to spin the tires, and not have engine noise.
@@MattMaranMotoring I just realized I put GT Line, I meant the normal GT, I cant stand CVTs. but pleaaaase next year when the Forte5 GT Line is released, review it!
Man they fell asleep when choosing wheels for this thing. I still think the Scion XB (Toyota bB) did the box best. Loved my first gen as it had a 5 speed with the 19" TRD wheels and sport exhaust. It was slow as ass but still fun to drive and turned heads everywhere.
The Mazda CX-3 is the king of handling feeling, not numbers. The Hyundai / Kia siblings are the power / handling kings in this class for numbers, but they're a notch below the Mazda CX-3 in handling feeling. Google C & D 2020 Kia Soul X-Line review. That car reached 0.91g in handling with all season tires.
I've a feeling it'd be an even better car, if it had a manual transmission. And with a nice exhaust and some lowering, then it could be an odd and quirky "hot hatch"
And here I am with my moms 1st gen my god this shit is boxy compared to the newer ones like seriously I’m about to persuade my mom into trading in for this 😂
I would never buy another car with a DCT, they suck! At low speeds they hesitate when to change gears, especially in heavy traffic. I prefer the IVT transmission for daily driving and they do a very decent job in highway and fuel economy is way better.

Weirdly attractive vehicle that is reasonably quick, built well, and practical.
It’s crazy to believe the soul went from being a joke to one of the best looking mini crossovers out there

Stinger needs to have a manual gearbox, then its a perfect car

Keep it ! I give mine away for 2020 EX, not bad but less features. And of God I miss panroof.
That transmission seems really set and snappy around town while your talking I can hear it shifting on beat.
It is a crime against humanity that the base LX trim is available with a manual transmission, but the GT turbo is not.
