    I'm embarrassed to write that my deluxe copy of Mage Knight has sat on my shelf of shame for YEARS. I just haven't managed to get my game group to commit. So I've decided not to wait any longer and am going to adventure SOLO. Thank goodness for you. Clear instructions. Great ep 1 - my table is completely covered in Mage Knight goodness, with Tovak - and my faithful dummy Goldyx. On to episode 2...

    I've been interested in Mage Knight for a while now, and since it was back in stock and on sale, I pulled the trigger. I've heard that the rules were pretty overwhelming so a really appreciate you putting together this How To Play guide. It is evident that you spent a lot of time on this video and I imagine it will help all new Mage Knights out there that want to get into this game.

    Very impressed by your videoing (great light source, very calm and collective - reading teleprompter, couldn't tell - love the sweeping zoom-in of the camera), yet editing could be a bit better (chop scenes, frozen screen at the end of #2, bubble talk?, ...)

    Have this game ever since it came out however, you guessed it,it has not been played yet ! I bought it because as a solo player I was told it is "the best ever game for solo players,too".
    I have well over 400 board games and over 100 puzzle games (Smart Games, Think Fun etc) so I didn't really worried to add it for "later on"...how sad is that !
    Finally,I shall make notes and eventually get to understand the somewhat convoluted rules;let's face it : Those rules are not exacting welcoming 🤔
    Thank you in advance.

    I finally decided to buy Mage Knight and getting the Ultimate Ed box. It's my birthday, so im getting a "big fancy" game. Lol i just lucked out and found some guy was selling his on BGG for such a great deal.
    Ive almost bought the original set over the last few years several times and then i keep dithering about what exactly to spend a big chunk of money on, but i finally decided to invest in Mage Knight and getting all the expansions all at once, as i have compared and studied so many games that are basically variations on same theme, but i think this looks like the most interesting.
    Buying all the different expansions and base was going to cost a fortune, so it was so great to find Ultimate for sale at reasonable price.

    I just cracked open the game and am completely dumb-founded by the "game walkthrough," which I didn't find to be much of a walkthrough at all but rather an explanation of all the things a player can do during a turn. So my next thought was to search for a how-to-play video on UA-cam. I should have done my research first, because if I had known this game was going to require an hour and a half video tutorial, I never would have bought it. This just isn't for me, but I left a like because I appreciate your extensive effort in teaching the game.

      @@ModernTablegamer No problem! I also bought Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion and have greatly enjoyed the introductory scenarios. I think I was looking for something more akin to a dungeon crawl. And something lighter-weight.

    WOW - the MOST HELPFUL VIDEO OF ANY GAME I've seen.
    -- Maybe the most helpful video on UA-cam I've watch. Thanks.
    Now, I need you to do one more video: Gloomhaven, Frosthaven (when it comes out), Nemesis, Nemesis Lockdown (when it's releases), Cthulhu Death May Rise,
    The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth (cause this one we lose at every time). OK - this is obviously not one game but you seriously have explained Mage Knight so clearly I would like to have this on the others.
    EDIT - I just emailed a few companies to have them have you do videos for them. If Fantasy Flight games hired you, then Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-Earth might actually make sense and be fun. Good luck. OK - hope I didn't overstep but I asked Fantasy Flight, Nemesis and Cthulhu Death May Die creators to contact you also. Your videos would save SO much time.

    Just finished the whole series... It rocked. Still struggling with the Art style (Dated) but it's in my basket, and i'm hovering over that buy button! Thanks for such a great tutorial. Also, have you stopped making videos? Seems your last upload was a couple of years back.

    resting is different from healing. Rest = disard a non-wound card and then discard any number of wound in your discard pile, so those wound stay in your deck for the next round, but a heal will remove the wound and return to the wound pile

    Just a tiny correction, when setting the dummy player one should also take its skill tokens.

    When placing the advance action cards and the spell cards in the Offer It needs to be placed from the bottom to the top of the decks .

    Thanks for coming up with this video series. I'm using it to teach myself how to play. Can you add timestamps so we can jump to a specific section in case we need a clarification in regard to a specific topic?

    • @ModernTablegamer
      @ModernTablegamer  4 роки тому

      Thanks Oren! Time stamps are actually part of the intro in the video. Right after the short intro in the video, there is about 7 seconds where I show the time stamps.. I started putting these in for the Mage Knight series and will continue with this for future videos. Thanks again!

    Thank you very much for these tutorials, they helped me a lot to understand the game, but still have my issues, need to watch your videos few more times, I think. I'm completely new to this kind of board games and maybe got something to difficult for the first time, so here comes my question, I played many PC RPG games, but this is somwewhat different stuff. Are there a bit simpler games than Mage Knight, you would reccomend? It needs to be playable solo only, I like science-fiction themes mostly, but of course fantasy etc. is also OK. And good replayability would be also important. Any recommendations? What about Space Hulk, seen you also made a video about solo gameplay?

    • @ModernTablegamer
      @ModernTablegamer  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Gordon. First off, thanks for the comment! While I love Space Hulk Death Angel and think it's a better solo game to start with, it is unfortunately out of print and a harder one to get a hold of for a decent price. From other solo games I have played, I really like One Deck Dungeon and think it would be a good launch pad for many players new to solo board games. I haven't played any good solo sci-fi games so none for me to recommend, but I know there are a few good ones out there. I hope others who see this can provide some suggestions. BTW, here's a 2019 geeklist from BGG that I use to find to explore what else is out there and recommended when it comes to solo games. If you find a game that sounds good from this list, then check the game weight ranking on BGG. Typically games under a game weight ranking of 3 are good games to start with. boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/264253/2019-peoples-choice-top-200-solo-games-200-1

      @@ModernTablegamer Thank you again, this time for a honest answer. It's good to hear you like Space Hulk and think it would match better for beginner, had some luck and found some online shops in my country of living, where Space Hulk Death Angel (localized version) ist still sold for quite good price, so I bought one immediately and now I'm waiting for the delivery (probably tomorrow), really hope I can enjoy the game, I can also add I love Warhammer 40K lore and world, so this is a big plus for the game. Never heard of One Deck Dungeon before, but from what I see I could really like it, like the design, the statistics, the idea of the game, need to add it to my list:) And thanks for the link, I will check it out!

    hi im watching your video to decide if i want to buy for the solo experience. two points im not sure if im convinced about. dummy player, prefer games that play exactly the same in solo as in the multiplayer (ie spirit island, Lotr). also you said the solo is about beating your personal record, but surely there is an another objective? beat the enemy which is considering the complexity i would have thought it is not always going to happen?in spirit island i focus on beating the invaders not so much about my personal best which apparently there is a way to work out. thanks for any comments

    Question from a Mage Knight newbie, when someone conquers the last city thus triggering the end of the game and everyone gets 1 more turn, does that player get 1 full turn as well as the one they've just finished?
