Had this exact tent for 4 years now. I also combine camping and big bike touring. It ticks all the boxes for me, and the better half.. Big bang for the buck..
Anytime I hear the sizing of Any tent I always chuckle. What size of people are they using to determine a 3 person tent fits 3 people. Everyone knows a 2 person tent fits 1, 3 person fits 2, & 5 person fits 3. Butt this Nature Hike Opalus3 looks pretty darn cozy with room for gear. The 2 front doors is a Great Idea. Really like the ability to roll up the outer shell & have a screen roof/bay window for stargazing & easy to unroll when the dew sets in.
Yes, funnily some tents would need very skinny people for their described numbers 😂 the Opalus has a good feel to it when inside, but my favourite interior on a tent is the MSR Elixir2, also having a roll back fly with window to the sky….wonderful star views with the right weather!
Thanks Andrew, I agree not an easy question to answer, apologies for that . Yes , a different tent for different circumstances is the way to go I feel . Best wishes. Niall
Thanks Andrew for a convincing review of this particular tent - I had read that those vents are prone to leak so perhaps you can verify or dismiss this in part two - it certainly seems to have some decent features for a budget priced item - thanks again buddy
Cheers Thomas, must admit I do like this tent already and think Naturehike provide decent quality at reasonable prices….not to give the game away on how it performed with the rain but the second night was stormy with plenty of heavy rain and wind to give it a proper test and I even got up through the night as it was so wild 😆 I’ll publish part two early next week 👍🏻
New subscriber here! I've been looking at this tent for quite some time. I would be buying the smaller version of this tent. So I might consider the purchase of the larger size if the price comes down. I have the Cloud Up 2 as well and I'm very pleased with the products from Naturehike so far. I absolutely love the living space of this tent! But I am worried about the vents now that it has been mentioned. Probably a little seam sealer would remedy that.
Hi James, thanks for. Subscribing and yes I like Naturehike products as well, also having the Cloud Up2! My Opalus doesn’t have any issues with the vents and it’s been out in heavy rain, sleet, and snow! To be honest it’s a great tent for space, the 3 man has a bit more headroom for sitting in and pack size can be reduced with a compression bag…good luck with choosing 👍🏻
Very good info, I’m watching with interest as I’m on the lookout for a biker tent. Great channel mate thanks for the time and effort you put in I love your reviews.
Hey mate, great review. Forgive me if you mentioned this and i missed it... What is the length of the poles when folded? And would you fit a bike packing bike in the vestibule? Thanks!
Thanks…. I think they were 40cm and not 100% sure if your question on bike! But if talking about cycle you could get a cycle into it however if motorcycles then no. Hope that helps 👍🏻
Yes, good tent…if anything a bit too large for my use but to be fair pack size not bad… I’ve never had a Vango tent, although they always look well made and good quality..maybe need to try one! I’ve also got a Robens 2 man tunnel tent and that’s very good for adverse weather conditions and like it a lot.. Robens Voyager 2EX Tunnel Tent Review ua-cam.com/video/BjeUZhLca_w/v-deo.html
Looks a great tent , I am 6 foot 1inch ,perhaps if I bought a lower chair the headroom would be ok . What is the weight and pack size Andrew ? Looking forward to seeing how it goes up . If you could only have one tent , I wonder which you would choose. Cheers Niall
Hi Niall, it’s one I already like very much and there are lower chairs which would work for you I’m sure! Pack size is actually 50cm x 18cm when measured in original bag but it will be less when put in a compression bag (the longest section of poles is 42cm so that might be my target 😂 pack weight is about 2.7kg. Really good question on which tent if only one and that is a difficult one to answer! If only using in UK I would be tempted to say this one for it’s wet weather flexibility but then for wild camping probably the Cloud Up2 for its compact size and quickness of erecting…and then there’s the question of long term travel where I’d live out of a tent….so, that might be the MSR Elixir2 for its livability….suffice to say a difficult question to answer 😆 👍🏻
Excellent tent, particularly if weather not so good, as it is massive inside sleeping area with big porch area as well. Yes, easy set up, for two backpacking you can split the load, although if you want to save a bit of weight and pack size there is a 2 person version.. here’s a video showing the one you’ve seen being set up 👍🏻 Naturehike Opalus 3 Tunnel Tent Follow Up ua-cam.com/video/zU8YqX2q21s/v-deo.html

@@Vincent-jq7bq a lot depends on what type of location environment and season you’re planning. Best advice I could give is take as little as possible….as it’s all to carry and pack up in a morning, especially if moving day to day. Small stove/titanium pot or pan, flatpack mugs plates etc work well (Sea to Summit make good gear but there are cheaper alternatives), camp knife and lightweight spoon Just take minimal clothing, I take the following for any travel any duration (in summer with obviously more for winter) - Basic set up for me camping is 3 each of shirts, underwear and socks, 1 shorts, 1 long trousers, 1 micro fleece and 1 ultra light down jacket which packs small and for me the motorcycle gear. I have a tiny Sea to Summit clothes line and wash clothing as I go! If travelling in summer or warmer climate then lightweight sleeping bag is good but make sure your sleep mat is a good one plus as big a camping pillow with small pack size as possible!! I have a very small ultralight dry bag which has micro fleece towel, bar of environmentally friendly soap (for washing in stream etc) plus other toiletries and some other bits for inside tent, micro lamp, medications, mini first aid stuff, hand gel, a few black plastic bags and tent/airbed repair patches..always have these inside tent ready for use when needed. I’m sure there’s other bits but can’t think at moment.. let me know what your thoughts are? 👍🏻
Hello! Thanks for the very thorough reviews. What do you think about the cheaper 210T orange version of this tent materialwise (even in theory if you haven't tried it), and/or do you know whether that one also has the possibility to roll the outer back wall away for ventilation and views? Thanks a lot already in advance!
Hi Bea, appreciate your comments and hope you find future videos useful…The cheaper version is perfectly good and does seem to have the rear roll up from the information I can find, however my reason for getting the green one was twofold, I wanted the lightest I could get and with it being silicone coated nylon it’s about 700g lighter and also I specifically wanted a green colour. My reason for lighter weight is that I try to travel on my bike as light and smaller pack as possible so every 700g helps, which I know may sound a bit extreme 😂 The advantage of the orange one is that it will be more robust and less likely to damage with it being straightforward polyester nylon and although has a slightly lower waterproof rating it’s still good enough. If I wasn’t bothered about weight or colour I’d have bought the cheaper one. Hope that’s helpful and good luck, regards Andrew
