That might work but there are some cons. When you just get into these freelancing platforms you have no reputation so you need to offer services in a really low price in order to get a job. Then you get a job and need to find a freelancer who will do it for a even lower price than what you are getting from the client. It means that only the shitest freelancers will be willing to take the job and the chances that you get a bad quality product (if you get something) are very high. If you manage to overcome this first stage and build a reputation you can actually get a couple of thousands a month applying this method.
some people have made some accounts to give themselves good reviews to boost their rep
You may look at it like an investment too.
