    If you've ever wondered how to play the blues on guitar, look no further. Learning the formula of the 12 bar blues is a simple way to understand the most widely used songwriting tool in music.
    Using moveable guitar shapes, riffs and turnarounds, you can apply these techniques to any song and begin to recognize them in existing ones.

    What I like most about your great videos, is that you don't sound/talk like a music teacher.
    You explain this stuff in words/terms, that the average musical noob will understand.
    That is a real talent.

    I’ve taken music lessons. If anyone has bothered to teach me simple patterns, instead of trying to cram the circle of fifths down my throat, I probably still be playing today.

      Linda. You are right .i taught about 3 people to play guitar , just starting with AD and E.then maybe one of the pentatonic scales .BUT i had a buddy who ( to put it his way ) wanted to learn properly with music reading .I told him he would find it hard .In the end he gave up.All he really wanted to do was learn to play blues with a little bit of lead thrown in.

      @@j.dragon651it's hard enough for a beginner to remember and play simple patterns at first. If it's not fun, people quit trying before they gave enough of a foundation.
      I say, learn a few chords and some songs, then learn the theory behind those songs. Then expand from there with more chords and more theory, a little at a time.

    Normally when someone with 'the knowledge' fast fires a lesson, I just end up bewildered, knowing there was valuable information in there somewhere but unable to unravel it. Sean you have the ability to pour out pure gold at a fast rate and my brain just soaked it up, this is great stuff, it's sold like a cheat sheet but it's real music theory in a blues tone. My brain got it all, it's my fingers that are just trying to keep up. Great stuff, thanks.

Now calm down before you bust a gut or blow an aneurysm, and yes, that too is Hyperbole.

    The clearest, most time-efficient, no-nonsense, straight-to-the-point instruction yet. Thank you for sharing. I'm just getting back into playing guitar (approximately 2 years ago), after a 30++ year hiatus. I had played a lot back in the 60's / 70's,... but sold all my guitars in the 80's & didn't pick one up until about 2 years ago. I was determined to learn to do it right this time, & in-person, one-on-one instructors are a gross waste of time & money. There are countless instructors on the internet that will impress upon you how good they are (usually heavy metal head-bangers), but don't teach you anything!!!! You are a welcome change. I will be signing on as a student as soon as Mom gives me my allowance!!!

    On the third time around, something clicked. Melody created in a pattern of 1, 4, 5 is Blues. I am a perennial beginner and cannot play Chords other than E and A and here it is you can make blues in whichever way your Heart pleases and your limitations matter the least. Your unstructured self learning makes way for an uncluttered teaching approach. Un-seemingly almost like stealth you introduced 1 4 5 and a turnaround emphasising their Origin from a scale and then showing how only those notes too are enough to make your “blues” go away. A poor-middle-aged-beginner-since-forever can also have something to do. Much appreciated Sir 🙏🙏🙏

    A great way to explain the 1-4-5 progressions as it relates to 12 bar blues etc. without getting hit straight in the face with Roman numerals etc. Music theory for the layman in bitesize pieces. Awesome.

    Hey Sean, maybe you can help me to find out what is the name or how do you call it when a blues get stuck all the time on 1st chord, not evolving to 4th and 5th, no progression. Thx in advance!

    • @seandaniel23

      You know I'm not sure if there's a name for that, I think you'd just call it however many bars of 1? Not sure but if I hear something I'll let you know!

    • @Bluestomiv
      @Bluestomiv 7 років тому +17

      that because Joe bonamassa ain't blues. that's hard rock

    • @cloudmonkey2686
      @cloudmonkey2686 7 років тому +21

      Bluestomiv hard rock? I've yet to hear him in any hard rock Channel and dude is deff all over the blues scene. I think maybe compared to the 1880s through 1970s that the new blues is maybe hard rock but blues is the blues. It's not a genre it's a feeling. Still didn't get me laid. Bad tutorial

    • @Bluestomiv
      @Bluestomiv 7 років тому +8

      I'm sorry did Joe Bonamassa grow up in the delta being treated like shit all his life because he was black? oh no I didn't think so. did he work on a plantation plowing fields and picking cotton? oh no I didn't think so. Did Joe Bonamassa watch his friends and family get lynched? oh no I didn't think so. that's what makes real blues so special, when it's none right by a real blues man it conveys those feelings and experiences. that's the feeling in the blues. Joe Bonamassa plays blues rock. different thing altogether. if "woke up dreaming" was played with an electric guitar and some distortion it would sound indistinguishable from any other hard rock song.

      So earl hooker and blind lemon Jefferson aren't blues players? Or Freddie King? STV (who is white btw)? Blind Willie Johnson or Eric johnson (another white guy) or T bone walker or big momma Thornton or Zz top (white guys)? Or Eric fucking Clapton? (White and English) So these ppl aren't blues players or blues musicians according to your words right?
      You must be white. You're an idiot. Blues does not mean color. Does not mean how you're treated or your place of birth.
      I've just listed some of the most famous blues players but according to you they are not blues players because they aren't from the "delta blues" area lmao. Fucking Internet tard you are

    • @Bluestomiv
