As a beginner this sounds like:
    1. Draw a circle, this will eventually be the head of the horse.
    2. Draw another circle which will become the corpse at the end.
    3. Finish the detailed horse.

when you pickin up a guitar at a party and everyone gather around you, they are just waiting for you to start singing.
nobody gives a flying crap about instrumental guitar music unless it is astounishingly godlike (and even then 2/3 of public will die of boredom after 5 minutes). people like to be involved, to sing along, to dance.

Frank Durham dude if someone is playing and performing and you're just busy talking, not listening to him or her, it's disrespectful to the person and the art. It's like you are talking or explaining something really serious to people and they don't even notice you, taking about their own silly things. You can choose not to listen to the artist, but talking in between the performance is outrageous.

While I too LOVE instrumental over singing/playing.
Truth is as he pointed out, nobody listens to instruments unless it’s GODLIKE Talent.
It’s MUCH easier to entertain a crowd with singing/playing (if u are an average instrumentalist) than entertain a crowd with pure heads on instrumental.
A good amount of people come on average category.
But sure if you are really really good at ur instrument, then be my guest and do a hybrid style strum pattern with percussive skips beats and make my ear orgasm!
      😅

for people who feel confused and want to learn more about these techniques:
technique 1: use chord voicings (look up the CAGED system w stitch for a good in depth lesson on that)
technique 2: use major and minor scales to add a sort of fill at the end of the bar (look up how to play major and minor scales and use major scales overtop of major chords and minor scales over minor chords or play the scale of the overall song)
technique 3: arpeggiate the notes of the chord in a different place on the neck (each major/minor chord is made of 3 notes called triads. look up how to play major and minor triads. its just two shapes not too hard to learn)

So glad i found this channel and video. Im just coming up on 5 years of playing ( self taught so practically zero understanding of music theory). Im now starting to realize how limiting it is to not understand exactly what im playing and how each chord relates to the other, ive always been a muscle memory and just wing it kinda guy.
But man, this video opened up SO many doors for me. I already have the technical skill to play alot of things now, regularly learning songs within minutes just from playing so long, but i dont " know" on command what to play next so to speak. Just adding in the picked out version of chords in my progressions alone made a difference. Man music just got 10x more fun, even 5 yrs in.

I leant to play the guitar in two months and my friend learnt it in AN HOUR. I really don’t feel confident in my playing because my friend can sing so she plays the guitar and sings and I can’t sing so I’m looking for something that can make my guitar playing more interesting and unique. This video is really helpful.

Being able to play that marvelously annoying snippet at the end would make it worth the practice. (Yes, sometimes I forget to use my power for good instead of evil. I'm working on it.)
Appreciate your ability to keep it simple without making me feel like a simpleton.

Man, I LOVE your videos! The only bad thing is it reminds me just how crappy of a guitarist I am. I've been playing guitar for over 40 years and playing at bars and restaurants for over 30 years. I was always good at hearing a song on the radio, and almost immediately be able to play it. Kind of. I always have played some stripped down BS version using straight open or barr chords. I'm still playing the same garbage I was playing 30 years ago when it was on the radio. Now I'm an oldies player. I love your sense of humor. I'm so lame, I just started playing Wonderwall about ten years ago! That is a complicated song in my repature. I still play American Pie and Take it easy! Yikes!!! I could always tell when there were real musicians in the audience because I could see them shake their heads and I got good at lip reading "douchebag". I'm more of a songwriter than a performer, but out of probably 400 songs I've written, 300 have close to interchangeable progressions. If I would have learned what you teach when I was young, I would have maybe been a satisfactory music writer. Alas, no use wondering what might have been. I'm trying to learn some of it now. It ain't easy. You are great, and I love your videos. I'm trying to stick with it, but I have to watch each video about ten times before I start to get a clue what the F you are talking about. Just wanted to say thanks for your knowledge and wit. I also wanted to ask you if you have any original songs on line somewhere. Would love to hear them. Thanks again.

People in the comments saying this is too hard for them well if u just started yes that’s understandable but practice everyday and practice finger picking and come back to this video in a couple years there’s good info in this guys videos. Thankfully I’m at the level where playing guitar is second nature to me and I can manage to do this stuff not perfectly but still and I only just started 4 years ago and I’m almost as good as my friends who have been playing forever so keep at it guys don’t be so pessimistic the sky’s the limit!
