Quite a few people do this kind of setup actually. It's a great way to offload your storage space and stops you from needing to download a game on multiple devices as you can map the drive to as many pc's as you want!
The price for what you get is a little on the steep side though, but if you're not a DIY'er/tinkerer/techie it can be quite tricky to build one, so this makes it nice and simple!
I always recommend DIY as there's youtube channels out there (like our fellow Canadian Hardware Haven) who have great tutorials.

Yeah DIY could be cool, this is my first experience with a NAS, so it's interesting jumping into it. I may try that in the future.

Can you access and game off of the NAS if you are outside the home network? I'm curious at if this could be really functional for all the latest Windows handhelds that are coming out, since pretty much all of them only have 1 slot for their NVME drives, and microSD speeds are not that good or reliable...

You can, I would be worried about latency. I think if both the home internet where the NAS is and the internet you access it from would be a big factor. Maybe I’ll give it a shot sometime

so if i get this nas system and lets say i have gta v on steam on my pc, will i be able to play on my nas server on my MACBOOK if im on vacation or something like that? or like games that can be played on pc and not mac os? basicly i just wanna play windows/pc vido games on my macbook on the go, along side of just being able to share files between my windos pc to my macbook and vise versa when im in school

Sorry for very late reply I just saw this. You technically could, however you may experience some latency when playing. I haven’t personally tested gaming on a separate network

    Hi good job 👍. DXP480T Plus maximum storage 16 t or 32 t ssd ?

I believe it is 16tb, there is another port to extend further with usb 4, but that part I have not tested. It’s a little tight underneath for dual sided ssd so likely only single sided which is why it would be 4tb SSDs supported in each slot.

nice video, thanks! @11:20 do you know if it's possible/how to install steam directly on the NAS? I'm wondering how you got the files onto the NAS. I am hoping I can just install steam/login there and have it download my library/stay updated, this way I can download/update my main PC when I need to, but I can't seem to find how to install steam on the NAS.

So I didn’t install steam onto the nas, but instead added it as a library destination (you can add multiple) so it was pretty seemless

Congrats on receiving on of these for your channel! This is a great video! The interface did remind me of what is used with the Synology NAS.

Just remember for BTFRS you should have at least 1GB of ram per 1TB of storage.
