Most likely you have partitions that are in allocated. This should be easy to merge into your main partition. You can do this in disk format

You need to install the 7840 drivers. What I found was the egpu plugged in to hdmi or dp works perfectly after installing those drivers, however it was not working on the internal display. I ran out of time to figure that part out sadly. So if you plan to use egpu to monitor or tv it’s not that bad. Legion go works on internals as well so not sure why the challenge on the ally x

You may need to compare the key type (plug in side of ssd) to make sure it’s compatible

@@okestgamer thanks, that would be important to know for me. I've of the things that turned me off about the first onexgpu was that. The gpd g1 seemed more compelling on that regard. But I wanted a bit more performance and vram than the 7600m. This second iteration seems to tick all the boxes for me. 👍

Pro tip for the original one. Pull out the wall plug from the block and replace it with a cord (big cord you use for desktop. Makes it longer plug you don’t have to worry about a big block on the wall

The previous onexgpu is a little cheaper and works well. I'll be doing a comparison video on the two

If you don't need the portability the minisforum deg-1 is a great option. I run one with a desktop 7800xt and the performance is absolutely great on my 3440x1440 165hz monitor, sold my 3080 desktop. Only $99 and comes with an oculink cable, so under budget for onexgpu 2 you can get that, a psu and gpu. It is however oculink only. There are other cheap desktop gpu docks that do usb4/thunderbolt also

So I’m realizing most people skipped past the benchmark description 00:34 . The ally x is not connected to any egpu, it’s the device’s frame rate on its own power. The legion go is connected to the onexgpu 2 with usb 4, and the x1 connected to onexgpu 2 through oculink.

@@easymoneybaby8683 so I did do some experimenting last night as a last effort to benchmark results to internal display on ally x. If you install the drivers in the way she demoes you will have the egpu work when connected to an external monitor, but strangely games won’t boot if you try to play on the internal ally x display with the egpu. This isn’t an issue on the legion Go, so I’m not sure what the issue was.

The main reason for the power boost is the oculink connection. You get much better bandwidth

I benchmarked internal display as well. This video was meant mainly for a quick look and general audience who doesn't care for too much detail. Stay tuned for the more detailed follow up videos, but rest assured you'll get the goods, the data is gathered haha

I currently use moonshine and stream from my desktop PC for demanding games (5950x/3090 combo). I was also thinking to subscribing to GeForce Now Ultimate for these consoles...

Another update. I have fought my ally x to get the egpu to show up on the internal display and games will simply not launch. I need to figure out why. On legion go this is not the case. As soon as I plug in hdmi to the eGPU on ally c the games boot up perfectly. Looks like I’ve got some digging to do

Yeah I'm thinking I should have added (no GPU) right above where I had ally x haha. Meant to show it as the base performance of the handheld without egpu

Why would you buy a laptop if you are specifically looking for a handheld device ? Which I assume people who wanna know how these devices work together are in the market for ? Pretty different devices in terms of how you use them right ?

It can run some, I turned it off so the ally x without egpu didn't melt haha. Cyberpunk 1080p oculink I was running ultra ray tracing at 75fps or so

You'll need to look up the device specs to see if it has USB 4

It's the same chip as the Legion go. So you would likely see similar performance using USB 4.

So the ally x is to show what the handheld on its own performs. The ally x with the egpu should be the same as the middle screen showing legion Go with USB 4. Sorry if it wasn't clear in the video.

The gaming laptop vs handheld is always a thin line. Some handhelds blue the line further so it's easy to go either way

If I end up building an eGPU I might be able to. I am sending this onexgpu 2 to another reviewer tomorrow so my testing has come to an end unless I end up buying it.

It's hard to compare to PS5, with PC you get various up-scalers, frame generation, and more custom settings. It will definitely put you in that range of performance if you use upscaling and frame gen for example

@@okestgamer thanks man I appreciate you. So the Ally x comes with some sort of up scaling I believe (pardon my ignorance but this is all new to me) in order to take advantage of it do I have to run the game at a lower resolution in settings as well as set the screen resolution to say 720p?

In a lot of the game settings you’ll see a setting called fsr. This will automatically do this process for you if you pick auto. You can choose quality, balanced, performance etc.

Settings are on each test. The settings I'm using are definitely not what I would ever play at with just the handheld. I needed really high settings to actually tax the egpu so we could see it's limit. A lot of the games fsr is turned off or close to off.

You should be fine, you can also just use the wall charger and other port as the SSD. In the early launch days there was USB power issues, so I suggested a dock early in because of that.

I benchmarked that as well. I have a tonne of scenarios benchmarked that I plan to use for a couple of other videos. I found oculink used on the internal display rather than external is actually very similar results. I would have assumed it would be much better external, but it was close at least in games I remember the results for.

More so didn't mention because it's on indiegogo and wasn't sure what the price is after early bird. But that's why I always leave the info and links in the description

There is a mod you can now do to the legion go by replacing the backplate that allows room for a 2280 size ssd

@@okestgamer 1000% on offering more. I'd gladly pay close to $1000 for VRR OLED screen, Hall Joy Sticks and maybe a slightly larger screen. I think they should stick with two model and remove the non extreme variant of the Z1. Both use Z2 and the standard Ally 2 = 16gb Ram and LCD VRR Screen. The Ally X 2 = 24gb Ram and OLED VRR screen + Hall sticks and maybe bigger screen. Everything else the same.

You can buy it from the steam store for example and download it to the device. Often times these games need an internet connection to boot up the game. I have a legion Go beginners guide, as well as a day 1 guide. Give them a watch, you may find them helpful

What I would suggest is the legion Go if you want to use the controllers included while connected to the tv. If you want to get the most out of the device I would recommend an eGPU as well, the onexgpu or onexgpu 2 (coming soon) would be great options. There are some setups needed beforehand but work well. If you’re transitioning from console to pc there is a bit of a learning curve, so just be prepared for that transition and where to find answers and you’ll be good.

@@okestgamer Ah, yeah... "The one with the large screen"! (By the way, my laptop is Lenovo, too...) You know, actually, I tried, once, in the past, to get involved on PC gaming. But I couldn't follow the demands of videogaming - and, mostly, I couldn't afford it: Almost every 6 months, you had to upgrade some part of your tower - if you wanted to run the newest games. CPU, GPU, RAM, HD storage... That's why - and the only reason - I moved to consoles. I (really) hope, today PC systems can last for longer. (Can they?) Thank you very much!!!

@@panosliakos3653 they do upgrade frequently. My best advice would be to device if you want to get one now, or wait a few months. I think the next generation of devices will be coming first half of 2025.
