The name of the band came after the former lead singers ex-gf “August” burned down the doghouse of his dog “Red” and when the newspaper headlines came out the title was “August Burns Red” so they took the name from there. This was later explained to be a joke because there really isn’t a meaning behind the name of the band, but so many people would ask that they came up with that story lol.

How August burns red got their name: the original vocalist was dating a girl named August, and apparently she was a psycho. He had a dog named red that stayed outside in a dog house. He broke up with her and she went up to his place one night and burned the dog house with red in it. August Burns Red... true story look it up.

August Burns Red has been a metalcore pioneer. They arent the very first metalcore band, but they certainly are right at the forefront of the genre becoming mainstream. They paved the way for all the great metalcore bands of today. Along with Killswitch Engage and a couple other early 2000's metalcore bands. ABR is musically genius. Their lyrics are very intriguing. They make you think and examine your life and behaviors. They challenge you to be a better person. I love this band from album to album. They are easy to recognize, but every album has a new sound or idea. This band is really a standout in the metalcore genre.

if I'm correct they said their band name came from a Pennsylvania newspaper headline , "August burns red" referring to the flames and sky being red due to a late night or early morning house fire.

You should check out As I Lay Dying - Empty Hearts, and also Behind Me Lies Another Fallen Soldier. The latter is a change of pace for them that I think is one of their best tracks ever.

Hey man, try other Metalcore bands like early Avenged Sevenfold days (2001-2003 for example their song Second Heartbeat), Asking Alexandria, Architects, Atreyu, Crystal Lake, Confide, Miss May I, Motionless in White, This or The Apocalypse & Trivium (Especially on Ascendancy, Shogun & TSATS album!). Also, electronicore like Crossfaith & Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas :D
