Matt is such a class act too. Every time I've seen him live, he finishes the set and immediately comes down (drenched in sweat, mind you) and greets the fans. He's such a genuine guy and a real pleasure to chat with and of course to watch drum!
That whole band is comprised of really nice dudes. I saw them many years ago, and bought a shirt after the show. I threw it over my shoulder and was nearly out the door when Jake Luhrs tapped me on the shoulder and thanked me for supporting them with my merch purchase. I didn't notice before that, but he had been hanging out by the door, shaking hands and talking to people as they filed out. Really cool of him.
I've gotten to speak to him twice. He even signed my Constellations anniversary vinyl at the show! He is super nice and genuine!
Metal is the professional weight-lifting of music.
For drums definitely, but mathrock or prog Metal is the professional weight lifting of guitar.
@@33savage70 both, for sure...I'd also include the whole prog-metal/djent in that category, despite what ppl say about djent...some of those bands' riffs are insanely difficult
"Look at that happy bastard" - Garrett Miller: May 21, 2020
The thing I love about Matt Greiner is that every time his stick hits his set, it has a purpose. He doesn't just play something just to play it. Every note has its place and it's always exactly what needs to be there.
Bruh I’m surprising my cymbals every time now lol
Just sit there jamming along like "dont worry crashes or China, in just over here grooving with these hihats.... *WHAM!* Crash!"
ABR has always had such a great drum mix that complements his amazing bass drum work. Most consistent metalcore band ever along with As I Lay Dying.
I’m pretty sure he just played most parts of that song leading with his left foot on the kick. That’s so cool.
Yeah, I was about to say, I'm surprised nobody else pointed out that he was leading with his left. That's fucking mind-bending to me.
Should do Adam Gray from Texas in July next
yesss.ua-cam.com/video/YcwT3y1LbMc/v-deo.html this audio sync one is my fav lol
@@davidszekeres504 ua-cam.com/video/7tFloJVwFG8/v-deo.html This is my favorite one of Matt with TIJ, he beats the crap outta those drums with what I describe as a comical finesse, he pimp hand strong's em while doing stick tricks hahaha. I mean just look at 4:15 on that vid, he comes from every angle, leaves no surface un-hit and finesses his sticks .. The heck did that drum kit do to him?! Love that video, the contrasting sound between his two tallest cymbals is one of my favorite things I've ever heard.
Alex Camarena with silent planet just had a really sick drum play through release (Firstborn + Interlude) that you should check out
CO-SIGN THIS IDEA. Alex really combines that heavy hitter mentality with so much flow and technical skill.
You should check out Alex from Silent Planet I think you’d like him bc he’s very unique in the metal scene
I think Blake was talking about Alex’s crisp jazzy/funk style, not his weight. Which, has nothing to do with differentiating musicians...
Gene Hoglan used to be pretty much spherical, didn't stop him being one of the greatest drummers on the planet.
Its so cool to see ur transition from casual viewer of metal drumming to a guy who is genuinely enthused/interested in the talents of all these different types of drummers
Stoked to see this! Matt is my favorite drummer and ABR is my favorite band. His drum parts are so solid in all of their songs, and always fit the song itself. He never does too much in a song even though he absolute could for the sake of showing off.
Great reaction vid! Matt is an absolute machine. This is one of my favorite drum pieces of his, was so happy he put out a playthrough vid to see what he's actually doing behind the kit.
Alex Bent of Trivium - Thrown into the Fire
Matt Greiner is an all-around great guy and one of the best drummers in metal. I also recommend his playthrough of Provisions/Majoring in the Minors
Very happy you chose a video I watch everyday since it come out
I had the opportunity to meet him before a show one day. Very humble, very kind, and down to earth. And an insane drummer.
I'm so glad you did one of these on Matt. This is awesome. ABR are a bunch of classy young gentlemen who ALWAYS bring it live.
Garret I love you. Never have so much fun watching drum playthroughs with anyone as I do with you
Matt Greiner!!!!! thanks for this been waiting.
Look forward to see more of him.
You should react to Adam Gray (Texas in July and Matt Greiner's drum tech).
He's a real deal!
i've chilled with matt a few times on tour and hes is an incredibly nice dude and solid drummer !
Paramount is a perfect metalcore song. driving beats that just never let up, the guitar leads that thread through the whole thing, every time it comes on I get goosebumps.
follow up here, it's wild that while watching this video I forgot that the song is not in fact an instrumental. it kicks ass as an instrumental and with lyrics.
Please react to Zildjian live 2020 matt greiner!!! And all the other Zildjian live vids from 2019 and 2020 goin on now!!!
Bro, whoever gives thumbs down to ppl providing knowledge about their craft, has serious problems. We love you bro. Thank you.
Watching you react to these is a soothing calm in a terribly confusing world
It’s 2022 and this video is still bringing joy.
Man, i love your videos and you seem like such a nice guy. Thanks for the awesome work :)
I love this channel. Drummers reacting to a drummer reacting to other drummers.
You’ve reviewed so many great drummers on your channel, but Matt Greiner is probably my favorite. He’s such a methodical and precise drummer, and a really sweet guy to talk to. Farmer by day, drummer by night, tis the life indeed.
This is your one of the best reaction video by far!
Hes also one of the nicest and coolest guy you'll ever meet!
Yesss so happy you finally checked Matt out. He's got so many other excellent tracks, check out Composure.
I'm a simple man. I see a video of Matt drumming, and I click.
I don't even play drums. That's how mesmerizing it is
Best part about this video is that foot cam shot. Man that's some aesthetic lighting
Clicked on this video faster than matt can surprise his cymbals
after it showed up in my feed a week later
This is now one of my favorite reactions
It fascinates me how easy greiner makes it look. He’s so good.
that crazy face at the beginning haha! great vid! and great drummer!
Matt Greiner just loves to play the drums, and it’s so fucking enjoyable to watch
I remember him breaking a crash cymbal once during a liveshow and they still finished the song (The song is called 'Back Burner')
Finally! huge inspiration for me -that matt.
nice shirt bro!
It’s cool u called them drags because that’s what I’d call them back in my “orchestral” days
Matt Greiner definitely is my favorite drummer I grew up listening ABR. I admire him
It only makes sense to do a follow up soon with Adam Gray! Matt Greiner/Adam Gray go hand in hand!
“Where’s one bro?” Probably my favorite quote I’ve heard from my teachers lol
His Zildjian Live performance is super good too. Plus he is playing with a jazz band too!
Met Matt once at warped tour 2013..probably one of the nicest guys I ever met
I love watching you get hyped on these videos man haha, I've discovered some good bands watching this channel too
Haven’t watched you before and I usually hate these videos because people pause and play over and over....you made me laugh so much...and commentary was great- SUBSCRIBED!
You know, it's not very often that I stumble across somebody online (although I've been watching for quite a while, now) who I feel like I could be immediate best friends with, haha. I love your reactions and your personality, dude. You more than fit the type of genuine person I love to find reacting to the things that I personally love. Hope all is well! \m/
Suggestion for a video would be Agent Fresco - Dark Water. Somewhere between prog rock and metal.
Been listening to ABR since 2009 I believe and Matt has always been my favorite drummer.
great to see you recognizing Matt.
You should check out Arnaud Verrier of Uneven Structure, it aches my heart how underrated he is. Dude is a groove machine.
FINALLY!! Haha, thanks for reacting to Matt, he's been a favorite of mine since ABR started
You might not see this comment but I just want you to know that this channel fulfills me so much because back when I was listening to all this hard music with intricate drumming with my friends who weren't musicians like me, I would always try to explain to them WHY what they were doing was so sick. I knew they didn't understand my musically intricate explanations of all the detailed things the drummer was doing. Now it feels like someone more talented than I is doing the same for me. Cheers!
Now do one of the live videos where the other band members do cymbal mutes for him! It's so glorious to watch!
Matt Greiner has been a huge drumming inspiration for me for 10+ years, finally saw ABR live last year and it was incredible. Glad you're checking him out! Other really good songs by ABR include Composure, White Washed, Thirty and Seven, The Frost. Honestly could keep going for a while
I like some ABR songs more than others, but I have never heard a "bad" song from them. Even their Legend of Zelda cover is insanely good
My favorite drummer. He's a beast.
Finally did a reaction to Matt! Awesome.
Jinjer just dropped a live drum playthrough of Retrospection with a top-down view also showing how Vlad sets up his kit. Mesmerizing work. Cheers!
I just remembered a gem of a song you should check out, "Dante's Inferno" by Iced Earth. It's a 16 minute long thrash metal opera abut the levels of hell and it's sooo good. Idk how many good drum cam videos there are but I recommend the Alive in Athens performance, the entire concert is a masterpiece and they close with the big one.
Pleased do more of Matt 😂 soon as I get paid bro, I’m snagging a shirt
I need to isnsist whit - Destrage - My Green Neighbour / Drum Tutorial by Federico Paulovich
"where's one bro". ......... "There it is." Kills me Everytime hahaha
"Yeah where's one bro". I died right there.
All seriousness I am So thankful to God that Matt Greiner exists. Making insane beats since forever
Totally buying that shirt next week and eventually going on stage with it when Co-Vid is over
I'm so glad you covered Greiner. ABR is one of my favorite bands and I see them every time they come through my area. He's a great drummer live and basically the golden retriever version of a human being. He's a good boy with impeccable timing. The video Zildjian video on The Blinding Light is awesome too if you want to see their earlier stuff.
"Look at that happy bastard!" -Garret
I was gonna request this in the next upload lol cant wait to watch! Check out his Zildjian live series its insane! It just came out a month ago!
Yes yes yes! Thank you sir. Also check Sarah Thawer! Keep up the great work
Please react to Nic Petersen from Northlane! Genesis/Scarab, Hologram or Rot are good drum play throughs!!!
Great vid! Would love to see a reaction to Shane Russell of Twelve Foot Ninja!!
Great content as always 🤘🤘🤘
PERFECT SCREEN GRAB
Greiners a legend
a pioneer of the genre for sure. check out his zildjan live performance
Matt's left hand lead in plus speed is INSANE
I love how you do review Sir funny and opinionated! Had me hit that subscribe button, I wonder what it does though.. :D
Not enough people have heard, or heard of this dude. He's super talented, and has amazing rhythm
Aww man i wanted him to react ti Matt but on Poor Millionare cause its my favourite of his drum playthroughs
Matt Greiner should be part of the next Masterclass series.
Fuck yeah! I absolutely love August Burns Red.
Matt is arguably the greatest metal drummer on the planet. He'd never agree to that, which is another reason we love him.
Try check out el estepario siberiano. He is crazy, tight and dumbell on the snare. Dream theatre to slipknot on single pedal.
I *really* hope this story enters the joining an actual metal band arc within a few years.
Night Verses (and now Fever 333) has an absolute animal for a drummer
fav current song right now
If you like Thomas Pridgen and The Mars Volta, listen to "The Bedlam In Goliath"
Also, some recommendations (maybe these are already on your list): Chris Pennie (ex-Dillinger Escape Plan), Jon Karel (ex-The Number Twelve Looks Like You, and The Sawtooth Grin), Jon Theodore (ex-The Mars Volta, latin prog rock band), Brann Dailor (Mastodon), Kenneth Schalk (ex-Candiria), Dan Foord (SikTh), Carl-Gustaf Bäckström (CB Murdoc), Chris Allison (various, incl. Plini, David Maxim Micic, and Mestis), and Brian Evans (records for Chon). Also, revisit Marco Minneman some day!
Whoever you are, you’re my favorite person. Been a massive #12LLY fan for a decade. Not to mention Dillinger, Volta, SikTh, Mastodon.
FINALLY YOU DID MATT GREINER!!!!
“Hemiola and beating the shit out of the China that’s double points” 😂 double points griffendoor!
Matt Greiner is just a proficient beast. Also apparently the nicest guy on the planet
I bet you would love his video from Zildjan live
Bruh, if you haven’t seen Alex Camarena of Silent Planet, you’re missing out!! He has a handful of EXTREMELY WELL MIXED live drum cams. I highly suggest “Firstborn+Interlude”
You should check out Alexandre Pelletier of Despised Icon if you haven't already. The dude is a beast and the way he holds his sticks makes it look like he's punching the drum kit.
I'm honored you reviewed my playthrough. Thanks so much man. Admittedly, I haven't watched your review yet so I'm braced for whatever you have to say haha!
Omg Matt I bingewatch all your playthroughs every two weeks or so, your drumming inspires me, not only when i am writting things for drums but when I make up music for piano or anything, just so much happening in your rythm and how you play with it never coming off as too technical but just master craftsmanship, greeting from Mexico!
What a legend you are Matt! The music of ABR is not really my cup of tea to be honest, but your drumming is super sick and you are such a genuine guy! Love that you are here on this channel too. God bless!
For real? I've been a fan since Thrill Seeker back in 2005 saw you on JCTV network on tv here in the Philippines. We've been covering ABR songs back in 2011 on the Messenger album when I had my own metalcore band. Amazing.
Wottttt Matt commented! Haha! Legend :')
THE MYTH HIMSELF
