Matt, it was such a pleasant surprise to see you at this performance! I'm so overwhelmed with noticing you with ABR almost 11 years ago. Keep inspiring people as you do, and thank you for this experience at Zildjian Live.
Here’s a short story for everyone…I’ve been to five ABR shows, three of which were VIP passes. I’m going to see them again in October and it’ll be another VIP. The second time I had a pass was in Chico Ca for the Leveler tour. I took my son with me, also VIP. When we got there, they were handing out the passes. I noticed mine had a little star sticker on the back. My son’s did too. We thought it was odd, but we just got in line to do the meet and greet. Before the band came out, the head security guy told us that the band decided to do something different, so there were four passes with stars on them. Those four pass holders would get to go on the tour bus for an additional 15 minutes with the band after the meet and greet. My son and I, along with the other two people, got to hang out on the bus with the band. Adam Gray (Texas in July drummer) was on the bus with them. It was so amazing! When the band found out that both my son and I got the stars, Jake asked what would have happened if I got the star and my son didn’t. I told him I would have given my pass to my son. Here’s the craziest part to my short story…when I saw them for their Constellations 10 year anniversary tour, I had a VIP pass too. During the meet and greet, I told Matt how awesome the Leveler show in Chico was, and getting to hang out on their bus with my son was epic. Matt asked if I could wait to the side before I got my Constellations book they were giving to the pass holders. Once the meet and greet was done, Matt had the rest of the band come over and told them I was the dad who would have given my pass to my son for the tour bus if I got the pass with the star and he didn’t. The entire band remembered our names, and this was years later! That’s why I continue to support ABR. I have all three livestream shows they did during lockdown…Thrill Seeker, Christmas Burns Red, and Leveler 10 year anniversary. They care about their fans, and will go out of their way to talk to the ones who are truly hurting in life. Edit: because it started looking like a drinking game, I took out a few “VIP” Edit #2: Just saw them in Boise. Matt and Jake both recognized me during the meet and greet. These guys are amazing!!!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums everyone from August Burns Red are very down to earth. When you read lyrics to their songs you see they are positive. Matt is amazing drummer and person.. His posture is a band teacher's dream.
When they came to Portugal me amd my friend were waiting to try and meet the band before the show just to tell how we've listened to them since 2008 (they came in 2018 I think). We crossed them on their way to dinner. The singer respectfully told us they were off a big trip and hungry and had to stick to schedule. As they walked away, Matt just smiled and told us hi and "nice to meet you guys". We were on the front row giving our all on the show and at the end, Matt came to the audience, gave me one of his drumsticks, thanked me and threw the other to the crowd. Ended up giving the set list to my friend as well. Super nice guy

@@ShutterOwl he wouldn't be using the Van Halen name because Van Halen is a corp. entity. Using the name is a conflict of interest in the clause of the contract Van Halen signed. The use of stage names is common in the entertainment industry. It's in case law, and protects the individual from being owned body and soul. So the law separates the name from the body. Hence the use of pseudonyms.
So my advice to anyone who is trying to make it in the music industry is this 1. Never name your band after your last name 2. Check to see if there is a fine print clause in the recording contract that stipulates whether members of the band can make money using the same name within the band as outside the parameters of the band. (Like if any band members can do solo projects between albums using the same name as that used within the band) 3. Have at least 5 stage names clearly thought out and on standby. 4. Don't get an agent, get a highly recommended entertainment lawyer who knows about pseudonyms and run your contract by him or her before anything is signed. So the recording company can't prevent you from making money before the checks start rolling in from your band's album sales. ( this protects you and your band and keeps the recording company from having you by the nads.)

WHAT!?!?!?
That’s not true lol... his name is Cody Wright 😅
@@nancyvernon3017 I’m just saying that bass player is not Wolf Van Halen, his name is Cody Wright. Completely different person. You can look him up 😅
So my advice to anyone who is trying to make it in the music industry is this
1. Never name your band after your last name
2. Check to see if there is a fine print clause in the recording contract that stipulates whether members of the band can make money using the same name within the band as outside the parameters of the band. (Like if any band members can do solo projects between albums using the same name as that used within the band)
