Honestly, yeah. Dante’s fast, agile and can dash/teleport but he’s gonna take his time approaching you to ruin your day. It reminds me of the Castlevania video where Dracula watches Simon just destroying everything in his castle as he gets closer to his tower and starts to panic and pack his shit lol The Pope is on top of the Savior watching Dante take his sweet ass time slaying his demons, destroying the portals before showing up with no chance of escape.
You pretty much hit the nail on the head. Fun fact: The weapons Dante gets are not from the demon he's fighting but actually from the demon's soul that's powering the Hell Gate.....meaning he was most likely supposed to fight Pandora, Lucifer and Gilgamesh as their own boss fights originally but all of them most likely got cut.
@James Chris In 5 it's explained that GIlgamesh is a metal from the underworld's bedrock, and if you fuse it with demon flesh you can get some really durable armor. Not only that, it's also able to create shockwaves, which is what the gauntlets in 4 do. The boss in DMC5 is Gilgamesh fused with roots of the Qliphoth. So yeah, you could make pretty much anything out of it lol
@@aman541 point about v is kinda subjective. Some people love him much more. Though, personally I enjoyed Nero the most (in the series overall). Idk, maybe it's because I only completed 3 before 4 and only later played 1 and 2... Idk. But I do like Nero more than Dante.

Pretty much nothing occurred during development. It's all rumors and fan headcanon to create an explanation as to why the game wasn't as good as they wanted it to be. The devs have stated that the project was executed exactly as planned and they're satisfied with the result. They had a limited budget to work with and used their resources in a clever and efficient way. From the perspective of a lot of gamers, it's laziness and recycling, but from the perspective of devs, it was smart game design.

Dante is literally paid to go and kill the demons. I think. Maybe. I mean, Trish infiltrated the order because they're messing with demon shit and that's how Dante got roped in this time. Dante went along for the ride.

Can't really deny it, you kinda just mash with Vergil and get the job done. Vergil is completely OP and I'm currently the World Récord SpeedRun of Vergil in DMD that clearly is the greatest proof of it.
You can tell when someone put in the work to try and enjoy DMC4 when they actually use the exceed mechanic after sword swings instead of just charging it between fights
Exactly. I feel embarassed because I picked up dmc4 a few months ago and didn't even know how to use it until I started playing 5 after a while. Then I played 4 again and Nero's gameplay became so satisfying for me.
17:54 "If Capcom was at all interested in actually allowing the devs to finish this game" The Japanese would basically consider that blasphemy. The developers of Dark Souls admitted that Lost Izalith is unfinished, but they didn't touch a single monster in there for the next-gen ports. Why? "For posterity." The developers of SMT Nocturne HD Remaster are using _PS2 music compression_ in their NINTENDO SWITCH GAME. Why? "For posterity."
Wait, they're actually using the compressed to hell and back PS2 versions of the Nocturne OST in the Remaster? Please tell me you're kidding, because that sounds fucking awful.
I actually 100% agree with posterity. If it was a remake then we can change it. That said, Demons Souls is being remade and I’m seeing a lot of mixed thoughts about that. There’s no completely right or completely wrong answer I think
Ah yes. The game that got me into the franchise. It could’ve been more but what it is, gameplay wise is super fun. It really told that Itsuno and his team focus on the gameplay/fun aspect first.
Hmm... I don't thinck that they did, my opinion: half of the game is a copy and paste of the first half, but less fun, i did not liked this game at all, and this game was a gift my dad gave me when i was a kid, but even then i hated it, because i was comparing it to dmc 3 and that game it's 3 years older than this one

Honestly as much as people meme about Fury, unlike Blitz there are consistent LOGICAL strategies to deal with him. Double percussion into real impact, parrying with revolver or revolution, using the new and improved royal guard, etc. With Blitz, it feels like you have to bend the game's own rules just to deal with him efficiently.
@@achair7958 the fastest way to deal with blitz in dmd as dante is to press royal guard after every attack to parry the lightning armor damage and then royal release
@@c-sar5395 I know. That's what I meant by "bend the game's own rules just to deal with him efficiently." It's kinda lame and wack and doesn't really feel intended.

8:22 Exceed changes the weight of Nero in the air. More exceed makes him heavier, which means he falls down faster. If you don't want Nero to fall down fast, don't use exceed. This allows you to position Nero in the right way you want to, which is important for the unintended inertia and momentum mechanics DMC4 has. Story is pretty garbo, I agree lol.
I loved DMC4 for the longest time, but even i can tell you that this game felt like a lot of unfinished potential. There was so much that could have been done with multiple playable characters, the story could have been interesting, but for some god forsaken reason Capcom forced Itsuno and his team to just rush the game out. If this game had released in February of 2009 instead of February of 2008 like it did, i can bet you the game would have been amazing. For 10 plus years I was angry that they decided to reboot the series when there was still so much potential with not just the original DMC series but with Nero himself. But now, i ain't gonna loose sleep over it. Because DMC5 is what happens when you let Itsuno and his team finish their work and put out a quality title. Pretty much everything you criticized DMC4 for doing, 5 fixes and improves on and then some.

Yeah, just about everything said here is on point. However, one thing I will say in regards to fans pointing out the development hell that DMC4 went through isn't to excuse it's poor release state, as far as I've seen at least. It's more of a simple acknowledgment of why it is the way it is.
True to an extent, but it's also to try to highlight that, despite the fact it was pretty much half finished, it still fundamentally plays like a super polished, "finished" game, even compared to it's contemporaries at the time. Hell, it's still a game to play over a lot of other action titles that simply can't reach the same speed, complexity, or just over all fun factor (barring Bayonetta to an extent and DMC5, of course). To be fair, though, that's more of a highlight on the development team's talent in making something both impressive to look at as it is fun to play.
@@philiphunt-bull5817 after finding out V was actually Vergil (as if it wasn't obvious), V is pretty much a new skill set for Vergil which was confirmed in his gameplay trailer of DMC5SE where you can use Yamato to turn into V
Assuming you haven't played DMC5 yet (or are doing it now), you're in for a treat! (No spoilers, just in case) - Enemy design is much fairer and the different playable characters each have their own unique, viable methods of fighting them - Levels are streamlined to have no overly obnoxious platforming sections or annoying puzzle sections, while being open enough to encourage some light exploration and rewarding you for doing so - The Proud Souls mechanic introduced in DMC4 is gone. Now red orbs are your only currency for buying items, skills, etc. Nice and simple while also making for more engaging decisions to make during your playthrough now that everything uses the same resource. And so much more. Based on your video, I think DMC5 will be right up your alley. You'll love it.
they took a lot of steps back though -moon gravity and easier jump cancelling which makes the mechanic feel a bit more shallow and easy -no reversals or guard flying despite reversals being available in the demo -v being an absolutely terrible gameplay design -not allowing you to play through any mission as any of the characters despite mods allowing it -making nero's arms breakable instead of allowing you to switch between them for more depth it's a fantastic game but still inferior to 4 gameplay wise because of all of these setbacks
@@igorz4582 Filip Vadas was referring to healing items and Holy Water. I agree that DMC4 has a higher skill ceiling, but definitely not a better overall gameplay experience. Not having reversals or the same inertia properties that allowed guard flying is certainly a bummer for the top 1% of DMC players, but the game still has unyielding amounts of depth that is more accessible to newcomers and veterans than ever before. And as much as I miss guard flying, I understand it not being there since it was very likely an accidental quirk of the physics engine in DMC4, like lightning in a bottle, that would be almost impossible to get again when you're building a new game from the ground up with the brand new RE engine. V isn't *terrible* gameplay design. It's basic compared to Dante and Nero and could benefit from more development, but at the end of the day you can still get through levels just fine as him. Not saying you have to like it (I certainly don't), but he plays like a schemer behind the scenes rather than an action hero like Dante. Nero's arms not being switchable is a pretty hot debate, and I definitely would love the ability to freely switch, but think about how that would make 90% of players play in the long run. They'd be encouraged to never use the Break Age mechanic, and I'd argue the depth would actually suffer because then decision making wouldn't be a factor. The obvious right answer would be to switch Breakers almost *every* time rather than choosing between keeping your current Breaker even if it's not ideal for your current situation, taking the risk to charge its Break Age at the risk of losing it if you're hit, or just using Break Away to quickly get to your next Breaker with low risk at the cost of not using your Break Age.
- Enemy design much fairer? It's all just a recycle with some tweak - no puzzle? That's why DMC lost one of it charm, nothing is wrong with the puzzle exept for the badly excuted puzzle.
As always. Great review. Some historical context: Over time, I met a lot of people in the Devil May Cry community, particularly style players, real combo fiends. And if there's one thing that was pretty apparent about them, is that they all liked DMC4. Its physics, tech and skill ceiling were all perfect, and it made for one of the most complex action games out there, so much so that DMC4 players would have difficulty adapting to other games, or at least without complaining about its design choices. In a way, it's the Smash Bros. Melee of Devil May Cry and for many, the pinnacle of DMC combat (At least without mods). As for Nero, yeah, people didn't like him at first. I was always fond of him, as I am for all "Young narrative foil to older, experienced previous protagonist" (See: Raiden, Rock Howard, etc...). But people didn't like how angry he was, maybe even uncool at times, and felt threatened with him seemingly replacing Dante as series protagonist. That sentiment lingered till right around when we got the reboot. People started to appreciate Nero's honesty and angsty teenage rage versus reboot Dante's... just being an asshole frankly. Right now he's widely loved, save for some haters here and there. PS: Fighting Blitzes as Dante is a taxing experience. Until you realize you can actually ROYALGUARD the recoil damage from hitting the electric shield, at which point it becomes a really fun challenge.
Actually Dante can do everything better than Nero in DMC 4 if you master him. I also do the royal guard on the biltz and distorted real impact and is very fun to do
@Omega Zero pretty much. the way i use to describe isnt even about begginer vs veterans, but more about, power and reflex, vs flexibility and control. dante is about maintaining your cool, using the right attack at the right time, and making use of everything at your disposal to counter enemies. nero on the other hand is about powering through enemies, and forcing them to submit, with counters and powerfull attacks that are much more timing sensitive. and then there's vergil which is just an overpowered monster that is all about obliterating everything that gets in his way.
I should clarify i kinda found a cheesey way for Blitz as Nero. Do a lvl3 charge shot to knock of his lightning, and start charging up again. In the meantime, do a ground grab, jump up and air grab him before he lands. Grab him again on the ground, repeat the air grab. Let him go red then release your new charge shot. He dies. Even on DMD. Cant help anyone as Dante though :/
For anybody who doesn't know, as dante you can royal guard his electric shield after you attack it which I found to be immensely satisfying. After his shield breaks you can use a royal release and a real impact and it should be ez mode.
The story and Nero are both actually pretty interesting! If you have the context from the side material, IE the novels and light novels. Seriously. He has a really interesting story and character arc, only if you have that context. But when you do have it, it makes Nero way better as a character. I hope you enjoy 5! It has the best story in the series if you ask me, even without the side material. Edit: I'm not excusing the game's inability to explain the story, for the record. The fact that it doesn't is hokey as shit. I do recommend the side material for a better experience though.
One thing, you don't need to buy a new controller for remapping the buttons. You can just do it from the menu. I recommend remapping the blue rose button for Nero to one of the triggers, since you need to hold it for charge shot.
Tempest Brown BUT, the enemies are worlds better from both an animation and bullshit angle (except for fury’s, I fucking hate them as Nero) and that in turn free’s up the players style from defensive to offensive
@@darkdestructer Yeah DMC5's weapon and move list is a lot more fleshed out compared to 4 and Nero getting Breakers and added moves like pay line complete them. Half the enemies in 4 suck to fight against and the main thing that's carrying the complexity in 4 IS intertia. The main reason 4 looks more insane on the surface is because Guard Flying allows for DBZ flying movement which combined with Turbo mode allows for some insane looking videos. 5 however if you look into combo videos has a lot more variety in combos and people coming up with a ton more creative plays (donguri discovered a sort of air mustang pseudo flight).
I'm gonna like because not only it's a really good review and it's about DMC but also because of the added Persona, Jojo's and Yakuza music, 4 of my favorite franchises together.
Yeah, it's the combat and style that is the reason i had been playing DMC4 for like 10 years. 3 and 5 are better games for sure. I also thought the Pokemon esque enemy design was not as good as the previous games and i also prefered to play as Nero for a long time until i learned Dante "properly". The story is a mess I but enjoy a lot of the cutsceens cuz i have seen them so much LUL.
19:30 you can actually use any melee attack on blitz as long you switch to Royal Guard block as soon as the hit connects so while this doesn't necessarily make the Blitz a great fight it ends up giving Dante more options to attack the bilitz than Nero does
Yep, as soon as you find out that, Nero is exposed for just having CS3 and eventually Buster. I tried being creative with using DT Activation to get a hit in but Dante has it all. You just need to find it, which is why tutorials and practice modes wouldn't hurt.
thelastgogeta the best I could do is calibur above his head and then jc it before the active hit frames came out and Nero gets knocked backed then doing a CS3 which I then cancel the knock back for with jc, it's a good way of closing the distance and looking cool while doing it
I think Agnus pretty much explains the Orders motivations in the cutscene before his fight with Dante. The order is losing influence since more and more people are turning away from the Order due to a lack of belief in the demonic threat that Sparda once sealed away. By opening the hellgate, the people are confronted by the truth that the demons are indeed real. By then destroying the demons with the Savior, the Order would present themselves as... Well... "the Savior" of humanity and not only regain influence over their former members, but expand it over the whole world, since everybody would then follow the Order. I think that is a very solid story. Also I think Nero is a member of the Order, since he was raised by Credo's and Kyrie's family, since he was an orphan. I have to admit, however, that they should have made all of this a bit clearer.
As somebody who's at about this guy's skill level he REALLY articulates the things I like and dislike about these games. The specific criticisms are really well-targeted and the things that feel great to a new-to-moderate player but are less "cool" for the well-acquainted still get their shout-outs.

Why Nero is in the Order and his story with Kyrie and Credo is all told in the game! If you pay enough attention to it (the story), check little details (like Dante watching Nero from the roofs in the beginning), read the unlockables' descriptions, and put everything together, you have a very competent tale to say the least... and it's actually very fun to discover yourself. Gameplay and quality of life improvements in DMC4 are INVALUABLE. So good they make it really hard to get back to DMC3... and impossible (in the bad way) to get back to 1 and 2. It sure feels this game was planned as something way bigger when you reach the second half (and its a known fact nowadays), but the way the team solved every limitation and came out with a superb polished product is always amazing to think about. Now, if we talk about the Special Edition: Man... It's still not perfect (what is perfect?), but I spent almost a hundred hours with it, and having played every single DMC game through the years, I can firmly state that it (DMC4: SE) is my favorite of the series. I just can't get enough of it! It made me really sad Lady and Trish weren't playable in DMC5 (the biggest bummer!) because they're unbelievably fun to play in DMC4: SE. Especially Lady, with all her guns and explosions! Wish they took the "story" part of the alternative characters to the next level, though, because they (including Vergil) are only there "just because", with nothing to add to the story more than a couple of cutscenes at the beginning and the end. But that's how it works since DMC3: SE, so no big deal. Anyway, DMC4 is a great game with GREAT moments and DMC4: SE worth every single minute and penny.
in regards to Nero's fighting style seeming unskilled, i always saw it as him being dominantly right-handed (like most people in the world), but with that hand being demonic, he's had to hide it from public view all his life. he had to learn to swing swords and shoot guns left-handed, and it kinda throws him off balance. i'm sure if he just switched hands, he'd be a better fighter, but he'd lose the function of his Bringer arm, now that it's being taken up by an item
Nice to know you collected all 333 Dylan Surendranath fragments to get your body back with boosted HP, JUST to come back and tell us how much you liked a joke. Thats determination.
I love Nero's devil trigger. He is voiced by the English voice actor for ichigo and he has an Easter egg where he shoots a getsuga tensho. Subtle but nice
As far as dealing with Blitz's as Dante, you can Royalguard right as you hit them to cancel the damage, so setting up charged hits with Gilgamesh and then Royalguarding on impact allows you to safely melee them and break their shields rather quickly, this is probably one of the easiest ways to deal with them on DMD. Alternatively going into DT makes E&I and Coyote automatically fire charged shots, which wear the shield out pretty quickly, same with cloaks of the Mephistos and Fausts, Twosome Time with DT active can let you quickly deal with the cloaks of entire groups of Mephistos (since you often encounter them in groups). ADDENDUM: As for Chimeras... well DT Coyote breaks them relatively quickly, but honestly they're an absolute chore to deal with when they latch onto Assaults, pretty much the only enemy I hate fighting, except for when playing as Lady, since Kalina Ann solves most problems very quickly.
I have this weird theory that yakuza, jojo, and persona have the exact same fanbase and your background tracks have proven my theory once again. Nice vid
Chaika Gaz IIRC you can still get Vergil as DLC in the original, it’s just the special edition comes with all the DLC while in the original you have to buy the DLC separately. This is why the special edition isn’t releasing on PC and is only releasing on PS5 and series X
Blitzes can be fun as Dante when you realize you can royal guard the electric damage right after you meele them, which makes them, actually fast to kill with Dante and more fun imo than beating them with Nero even, because you don't have to just use guns.
@@arth8265 Yes, the word is overused and people tend to misuse it. But in this instance we're just making fun of Nero's poorly developed, overwhelming love for Kyrie (to the point of slight cringe), who is a pretty bland, generic damsel in distress.
Haven't really started the video yet, but I just wanted to say that this video series of yours is a blast. It's great to see a newcomer to the series get more and more invested with as time goes on with some fair criticism given throughout the reviews. Great stuff.
Here's a hint for the dice minigame; the dice roll is not random, when you hit it, it always lands on the side that is on top at the time you hit it during its idle animation, you can use this to ensure you always land on the yellow spaces (Shortcuts), blue (Orbs) or white (No effect) to make the minigame go by as quickly as possible without ever touching the red spaces
For the dice minigame, always use the devil buster or high roller to flip the dice. That way, the dice will ALWAYS land on the face that pointed upward when you flipped it. This means you can pick the exact number of moves that sends you through the minigame the fastest + avoids traps. If you don't trust your reaction speed, remember that the dice flips through its 6 faces in the same sequence every time. If it goes 1-4-6-2-5-3, and you want a 6, just wait for the 4 and get ready. If you're playing as a character other than Nero and you don't have the devil buster, try that character's equivalent of High Roller (so backward + default melee). I think any attack that lifts enemies straight into the air will have this effect on the dice. The dice minigame will be A LOT faster and far less painful if you do this.
Saying that Reboot Dante is more like Nero extends past his personality. Reboot Dante's sword swings are more wild like Nero's, his moveset includes the ability to pull himself to enemies/enemies to him, and he has several of Nero's sword moves in his own moveset (though spread out across multiple weapons), like his more aerial combat manovers, they even have the same names. I think it's quite possible that because a lot of people were likely to have played DMC4 but not finished it, or played only DMC4, the reboot team decided to make their Dante a middle ground between Dante and Nero gameplay wise, so they don't alienate fans of 3 or 4 completely by picking only one.
What SaberRexZealot said, honestly, compounded with the fact that DmC!Dante (or DiNO, as like to call him) had the douchebag meter jacked up to 11, making him more of an mean-spirited prick that would rather go for straight up insults over jokes and witty banter. There's a difference between making fun of something, and being an outright asshole. That was honestly the other reason why some of us just hated him (among other things)
@@1Synner Another factor is that, compared to Nero and DMC3 Dante, Donte is probably in his 20s. Which means he's prolly a full grown adult yet he acts like that one douchebag in high school while once Nero and Dante reached their 20s they were mature adults while keeping their youthful flair. Hell, Dante can't even pay his bills yet he's more mature than Donte.

DMC2 is only worth playing if you want to play all the games in order of release, as your first time playing them. That's what I did, and while my few hours playing DMC2 were a boring slog full of complaining, it was honestly worth going through that shit because it made DMC3 *SO* much better in comparison. Basically DMC2 is best played with the intention of jumping into DMC3 very soon after.
So I might clear up some parts of the story since I’ve been replaying this game. The Nero part of the order is to be with his girlfriend and even if hates them, he doesn’t want to displease them. Secondly, throughout the levels for the three bosses, there are these gates that’s letting demons roam free and being used as research. Now, the one with the god part is the standard “this person who’s extremely powerful wants to find/obtain the power of another legendary person(demons, gods, etc) and use it”. That’s all I can really say from the story part since it didn’t confuse me that much unlike others and I’ve been playing the other characters in their storyline with Vergil’s oddly taking decades before Nero was even thought of and Lady/Trish having their story take place between the Nero/Dante story. Now the whole Vergil part of the story is that it takes place before dmc3(yet he still has his weapons Beowulf and Force Edge), then DMC3, DMC1 and then back to here because of the enemies and the Yamato. Thought to clear up the story a bit.
Yeah I was really confused on what the specific goal of the priest was and was literally questioning what was his purpose...But the gameplay was fun so whatever lol
Because I love the unused lore and setting of DMC4, I'll yak about it here for a bit: Fortuna was ruled by Sparda in medieval times as an independent city-state, during which time he founded the Order of the Sword. But he was never in it for the power, so he eventually put the city back in human hands.... and then they proceeded to worship him as a god. By the game's time, the Order is completely entrenched as a local religion, and controls basically every aspect of the citizens' lives. Thing is, modern tech and ease of travel and all that stuff threatens the Order's hold on the island. They banned guns to maintain the populace's dependence on their knights, so Nero had to go and build his own (in a cave!! with a box of scraps!!) because he believes killing demons fast is more important than tradition. So the Church had reasons to be deeply concerned with preserving their relevance. Enter Sanctus. Sanctus is a damn good depiction of a clinical narcissist. He's charismatic, attentive and kind and he seems so deeply passionate about the welfare of those around him. He can convince you that he has the loftiest intentions while being mega suspicious. And he believes his own hype. He wants the populace to love him even more than they do, because he loves them *this* much and that means he totally deserves it. He walks the walk and he talks the talk, but as the game progresses he sheds every little mask until he reveals that he has, quite literally, no beliefs and no convictions other than his own right to do what he's doing; everything he did was for the sake of controlling how people regarded him. The people regarded him as a priest, and he wanted them to regard him as their Savior. To be someone's Savior, you have to Save them. And if there's nothing out there to Save them from, then, well...... you ever hear those news about a nurse or doctor messing with a baby's incubator in order to rush in and sound the alarm and be a big time hospital hero? Crazy mom forcing daughter to pretend she's got 10 different incurable diseases for publicity and sympathy? They call it Munchausen Syndrome. So, you know, convince good people like Credo that opening the gate is part of a great plan for the benefit of humanity, and stride out there to publicly Save everyone from yourself. That was it, that was his plan. I love it. It's people I know, writ large.
You've clearly really gone in on this and it shows, very impressive stuff. The Savior becomes a pushover if you use jump guarding (a cheesy way of exploiting the i frames in the jump to make royal guarding wayy easier) i've never used jump canceling, don't let people tell you it's some kind of neccesity.
The Dante being not able to handle stuff is literally on you. The styles are what you need with him and one of the most important thing you need to use is the royal guard. For blitz armor either omen or 5 pin-ups and ecstasy or shotgun shot. (also DT burst does a lot in this game). What this game does exceptionally well is that there is multiple ways to deal with different opponents and how the game puts you in situations where you have to come up with something new. Either with smaller places or combining annoying enemies together. For the end you are absolutely correct that the levels and puzzles are horrible... i only like this game because it feel like i'm always finding new stuff and getting better at the "gameplay" and what i mean by that is that sometimes when you play a difficult game you learn enemy patterns rather than how your character works.
The missions where you have to do the Key of Chronus lazer things, and the lazer bridge, and fan was the most annoying part of the game... It wasn't that I couldn't get through it, it was that it wasn't fun, in the slightest doing these gimmicky platforming puzzles, including the Torture room thing... Why would someone put platforming puzzles in an action game, where all you REALLY wanna do is annihilate some demons, like this isn't Crash Bandicoot...
I think you exaggerated how confusing the plot is. Its a standard Syndrome plan, the pope unleashes demons purposefully so he can come in to save the town and be deified. This happens a few times in the video. Why is Nero part of the cult when he doesnt like them? He was adopted by them as a child and sticks around for Kyrie. Why does he fight the plant? Cause it attacks him first. Its fine, I think you over stress it as being confusing but it reflects poorly on your reviewing ability when it really is pretty simple.
Nero a demon they kill demons so he has to hide from them so they won't hurt who he cares about which is why he gave two shits about the order of the ssord
@@m.a.k.dynasty4504 I mean, do they? It's fine. It's not high art, but DMC never is. Besides, he's clearly confused at whats happening in the video, and even asks why the Pope attacks the city when they make it clear.
@@KotoCrash It's still not a strong narrative and has a weak build up and even weaker payoff since the villain in question proves to be no real threat whatsoever. Keep in mind that Devil May Cry 3 previously came out before this one and received great praise for its simple yet effective story.
Hate to break it to you but the old games had plenty techno influences and were hardly what I’d call “heavy metal.” Subhuman is heavy metal. DMC’s devils never cry, the main theme, the one everyone loves, is a mix of techno and rock. Like I get it you don’t like the new music that’s fine you can have your opinion even if it’s kinda just a bad one, but don’t try to back it up with “facts” you pulled out your ass. Next you’ll say you thought dMc’s story was better than 5
Nero's attitude is pretty much DmC Dante with a different name. Yeah, the reasons you mentioned are pretty much what hold 4 back from reaching 3 and 5's levels. Looking forward to your thoughts on DMC5!
A couple things on the story. 1: Why is Nero working with the order? He isn't. Some guy came in and shot Pope Francis (not his real name). The pope is sort of a town leader and now their leader is gone and demons started swarming the city. They literally don't have the time or the men to spare to track down Dante at this time. This is where Nero comes in, his home town is in chaos and was the only one who was able to hold his own against Dante. He's the only person in town who can chase Dante because everyone else is helping the evacuation or fighting demons. Plus, I believe it's mentioned outside of the game that Nero does some need work for the order from time to time. Nero does it for the money which kind of makes sense cuz it seems like Nero is the only atheist in a religious town.
Secondly, the popes plan. Yes, that was his plan. Flood the town with demons and then save the day. It's a concept called "inventing a problem and selling the solution." Companies do it all the time.
Hopefully im not the only person who realised this but with the dice mini game, the number thats on top when you hit the dice is the number you will end up getting. Hopefully this helps newcomers to this game and will be a timesaver.

Is there concept art of any of the cut bosses?
@@ge9884 Nope. I searched everywhere. EDIT: Gilgamesh is a boss in dmc5, but that does not seem legit lol.

@James Chris In 5 it's explained that GIlgamesh is a metal from the underworld's bedrock, and if you fuse it with demon flesh you can get some really durable armor. V is beginner friendly
Assuming you haven't played DMC5 yet (or are doing it now), you're in for a treat! (No spoilers, just in case)
- Enemy design is much fairer and the different playable characters each have their own unique, viable methods of fighting them
- Levels are streamlined to have no overly obnoxious platforming sections or annoying puzzle sections, while being open enough to encourage some light exploration and rewarding you for doing so
- The Proud Souls mechanic introduced in DMC4 is gone. Now red orbs are your only currency for buying items, skills, etc. Nice and simple while also making for more engaging decisions to make during your playthrough now that everything uses the same resource.
And so much more. Based on your video, I think DMC5 will be right up your alley. You'll love it.
Not to mention that items are mostly gone now.
they took a lot of steps back though
-moon gravity and easier jump cancelling which makes the mechanic feel a bit more shallow and easy
-no reversals or guard flying despite reversals being available in the demo
-v being an absolutely terrible gameplay design
-not allowing you to play through any mission as any of the characters despite mods allowing it
-making nero's arms breakable instead of allowing you to switch between them for more depth
it's a fantastic game but still inferior to 4 gameplay wise because of all of these setbacks
@@filipvadas7602 how so?you basically have most of the items in 4 available in 5
@@igorz4582 Filip Vadas was referring to healing items and Holy Water.
It's all just a recycle with some tweak
- no puzzle? That's why DMC lost one of it charm, nothing is wrong with the puzzle exept for the badly excuted puzzle.
As always. Great review.
Some historical context:
Over time, I met a lot of people in the Devil May Cry community, particularly style players, real combo fiends.
I also do the royal guard on the biltz and distorted real impact and is very fun to do
Pandora's Omen completely negs their lightning armour too.
Plus knowing now what we know about his family situation his personality makes more sense

Vergil is my go to solution for him
@@drew1768 Vergil can be a go to solution for the entire game, and we love it

I should clarify i kinda found a cheesey way for Blitz as Nero. Do a lvl3 charge shot to knock of his lightning, and start charging up again. In the meantime, do a ground grab, jump up and air grab him before he lands. Grab him again on the ground, repeat the air grab. Let him go red then release your new charge shot. He dies. Even on DMD.

For anybody who doesn't know, as dante you can royal guard his electric shield after you attack it which I found to be immensely satisfying. After his shield breaks you can use a royal release and a real impact and it should be ez mode.

19:30 you can actually use any melee attack on blitz as long you switch to Royal Guard block as soon as the hit connects so while this doesn't necessarily make the Blitz a great fight it ends up giving Dante more options to attack the bilitz than Nero does
Yep, as soon as you find out that, Nero is exposed for just having CS3 and eventually Buster.

thelastgogeta the best I could do is calibur above his head and then jc it before the active hit frames came out and Nero gets knocked backed then doing a CS3 which I then cancel the knock back for with jc, it's a good way of closing the distance and looking cool while doing it
I think Agnus pretty much explains the Orders motivations in the cutscene before his fight with Dante.

I just have to say even though you aren’t a huge UA-camr you’re definitely heading there like these dmc reviews are just great. Cant wait for dmc 5.
I appreciate that!
@@HyveMindsGames Take all the time you need, but I don't suppose you're close to done with the 5 review? Again, don't feel pressured to rush, and thank you for the good content, you're a good analyzer
On the path to being a great UA-camr? I believe it, but what is he going to review after DMC 5? He'll have to think of something, cuz as far as I remember, 5 is the latest one to come out...
Hope he finds something, these videos are great, and completely honest

**looks at DMC5 with its near infinitely higher skill ceiling**
Hm...
That's what I was thinking. Lol
Dmc4s combat is better imo. Staying in the air in dmc5 is too easy. Also the lack of inertia and reversals hurts the game.
@@tomholt1080 fair enough but personally i think the changes made with new moves and such makes DMC V more complex and have more options. While it does suck inertia is not in the game i understand why its not included
@@wgreenewgreene1022 if they fixed the moon gravity in dmc5 I might agree with you
@@tomholt1080 I didn't like the gravity in DMC 5 too. You can stay in air for ever with a lot of jump cancel. I liked 3 and 4 where you need to have a lot of skill to stay in the air for some time.
23:58 Dante saying 'What the hell is this?' got me into Devil May Cry, and i love it!
I... really like that idea, actually. Imma keep that as my headcanon now, lol.
I wonder which hand he… “pulls his Devil Trigger” with?
@@DragonWinter36 kyrie
I died of laughter the moment you referred to Kyrie as "Kairi 2" lol
Nice to know you collected all 333 Dylan Surendranath fragments to get your body back with boosted HP, JUST to come back and tell us how much you liked a joke. Thats determination.
I LOVE THIS GAME. It’s the first one I ever played and I still remember beating this game like 10 times. The remaster was a BLAST too!
Nice vid
The one thing that I liked what they finally did in Dmc5 was giving Royal Guard a viable final move when upgraded. Unlike dmc3&4
Thanks for this birthday present dude, been waiting a long time
Trust me, DMC5 is going to blow your mind. That shit about Nero's battle theme? It's so much better in DMC5
Nahh nope
Dont buy dmc5 yet as dmc5 special edition comes out in november. You get to play vergil now
Dam Sen You listened to Vergil’s track yet?
Chaika Gaz IIRC you can still get Vergil as DLC in the original, it’s just the special edition comes with all the DLC while in the original you have to buy the DLC separately. This is why the special edition isn’t releasing on PC and is only releasing on PS5 and series X
@Dam Sen This is one of the worst takes I've ever heard.
Blitzes can be fun as Dante when you realize you can royal guard the electric damage right after you meele them, which makes them, actually fast to kill with Dante and more fun imo than beating them with Nero even, because you don't have to just use guns.
Nero whole thing is that he basically Vergil but he still have a family that he could protect

5:22 Vergil: Did someone say MOTIVATION!?
To sums up the stories
Nero: *SIMPS*
Dante: just there for style points

@@arth8265 Yes, the word is overused and people tend to misuse it.
But in this instance we're just making fun of Nero's poorly developed, overwhelming love for Kyrie (to the point of slight cringe), who is a pretty bland, generic damsel in distress.
@@mistman_161 Yeah, it was bland love story. That's not the same as simp syndrome... Soon, people will call Romeo and Juliet as simp story.
Dmc4 situation,
Nero: kick ass, cant use yamato in actual battle, KyRiE!!
Dante: a janitor, cleans up Nero's work
SE Vergil: pure fun, pure power
Haven't really started the video yet, but I just wanted to say that this video series of yours is a blast. It's great to see a newcomer to the series get more and more invested with as time goes on with some fair criticism given throughout the reviews. Great stuff.
@Reggielacey 223 I don't really care about your "no true Scotsman" fallacy.
The entire reason Nero is with the order is because Credo and Kyrie are. After all, they were the only family he had.
I like how in DMC4 Dante kinda just hangs around and he somehow happens to save the world
Glad to know that you also say “Mad cuz bad”.
The “t-t-t-t-talk” line in my opinion was fantastic

After watching this and your other vids I'm super interested to hear what you think about DMC5, hope to see more!
off topic, the fact theres an 8-bit version of rivers in the desert playing in the background gives me joy
dont worry people would disagree. you're fully right
Here's a hint for the dice minigame; the dice roll is not random, when you hit it, it always lands on the side that is on top at the time you hit it during its idle animation, you can use this to ensure you always land on the yellow spaces (Shortcuts), blue (Orbs) or white (No effect) to make the minigame go by as quickly as possible without ever touching the red spaces
Now the big question becomes: will you review the standard PC version of DMC5 or the Special edition Coming up to PS5?
(probably pc, right?)
Now imagine believing this to be the last core DMC game for 10 years
A fair and well-articulated review. Hope you have fun with DMC5. 🤘😁
Love the included donguri shot :))) Legend says he has 6 hands
And then , he played DmC 5 SE.
I have been waiting for that review
*DMC
It’s funny you say that because it seems that all they achieved was alienating their fans.
@@cillbipher2613 Lol, yeah, that too.
If I remember correctly, a lot of people loved to nickname DiNO "hobo Dante" due to that. Though, there is one serious story question I have. If he was crammed inside of a trailer, had no job, and obviously no desire to have a job, how in the living fuck did he manage to still be able to pay for booze, clubs, and prostitutes?
@@cillbipher2613
Dante and Nero are anything but mature adults. Did you forget that Nero threw a massive fit all throughout DMC V just because Dante called him dead weight once? Unfortunately, his whinny behavior returned in Devil May Cry V.
Fun fact the voice Jonathon joestar is nero, well in V he is lol
Looking forward to your dmc5 review soon. Dmc4 is great but yeah flawed, best way to put it is its at least not dmc2 lol never played that but idk if I wanna
Don't bother. Theres absolutely nothing worth playing in that game. Its not fun, its just unbelievably boring.
@Reggielacey 223 good for you. You have lower standards than most of us
@@sebastiancintron29theres only one fun moment and it is- I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A KEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENG
Because I love the unused lore and setting of DMC4, I'll yak about it here for a bit:
Fortuna was ruled by Sparda in medieval times as an independent city-state, during which time he founded the Order of the Sword.
@@ElanorPam incredible explanation. thank you.
"Mashing buttons won't help you"
Auto combos: allow me to introduce myself
DMC 4 is the best Bleach video game we ever got.
You've clearly really gone in on this and it shows, very impressive stuff.
The Savior becomes a pushover if you use jump guarding (a cheesy way of exploiting the i frames in the jump to make royal guarding wayy easier)
i've never used jump canceling, don't let people tell you it's some kind of neccesity.
Reboot dante was inspired from nero thats why they're so alike
And now DMC V Nero is slightly inspired by DmC Dante. It all comes full circle.
M.A.K. Dynasty Minus the emo. But I guess that’s V 😂.
I love that for "extreme combos" you quoted a donguri video XD
I'm not arguing I'm just expanded on what you stated
The story is still poorly written regardless. Perhaps he's confused at how they could possibly screw up such a simple plot premise.
@@m.a.k.dynasty4504 I mean, do they? It's fine. It's not high art, but DMC never is.
Besides, he's clearly confused at whats happening in the video, and even asks why the Pope attacks the city when they make it clear.
@@KotoCrash
It's still not a strong narrative and has a weak build up and even weaker payoff since the villain in question proves to be no real threat whatsoever. Keep in mind that Devil May Cry 3 previously came out before this one and received great praise for its simple yet effective story.
I've heard quite the variety of remixed JoJo songs in the background of your videos, but Bakamitai caught me off guard in the end there.

Absolutely no one:
Not a single soul:
This guy: DMC5 music bad, techno sucks, I miss the old “heavy metal.”
"Best boss in the franchise" Ohoho wait for dmc5 mission 19 and 20
Can't wait for dmc5 lol
I am waiting for dmc5 review video
Hopefully im not the only person who realised this but with the dice mini game, the number thats on top when you hit the dice is the number you will end up getting. Hopefully this helps newcomers to this game and will be a timesaver.
Finally! 5 is soooo much better tho it's the best I can't wait till you play it!
It really is. The skill ceiling may be lower, but I don't care. Everything else is so much better
The controller with extra buttons is a great idea. I was 12 when dmc4 came out. That whole summer I worked on mastering style switching with Dante.
