  • Felling and bucking with my new Sthil ms 462, this elm had the top blown out from a storm a few years ago. My MS261 has been my go to saw for 3 years now but I think it has meet its replacement, the 462 offers great power to weight for not much more weight. The 261 will still have its place and get quite a lot of use still, but the bigger logs the 462 is just night and day faster!

    I have that same saw. Love the power to weight ratio. Went with the West Coast Saw bark box and the air filter. Don’t see any need to have it ported for my needs. Be safe.

      I did not need it ported either but it was a good deal so I jumped on it. How do you like the bark box?

    Cool vid! The 462 is tough to beat. Ported, she's a real ripper!

      It’s overkill for what I need most of the time but it sure is a fun saw to run!

    Love my 462. It’s just waiting parts at the moment. Dropped a log onto last weekend and smashed the handle combined tank. I was gutted, but it’ll be back in use soon. Chris

    I'd be running mine right now if it wasn't still dark out - and I didn't care about my neighbors. (Please use all safety precautions including hearing protection. I've been kneecapped by loose chunks.)

    They like the gas for sure! Everytime I run my 550xp I cut with it for awhile and I’m thinking to myself, Is this thing ever going to run out of gas?! Very efficient on the fuel compared to the bigger saws

    • @foggyvalleyacres
      @foggyvalleyacres  Рік тому

      I know, I usually cut twice as long with my 261, first time it ran out of gas I thought I didn’t fill it up all the way lol nope she’s just a heavy drinker

    I've been using a ms441c for the last 10 years as my big firewood saw. Couple of weeks ago our property got flooded and it was in my basement. I've got it running again,but the throttle cable is seized up. I'm wondering if it's worth fixing or maybe trying to upgrade. It's been a good saw,but kinda heavy compared to a ms400 or 462. I wont know if it's really ok until I can fix or replace the throttle cable. I cant decide what I'll do,but the 462 looks like a nice choice for my 28" bar

    • @foggyvalleyacres
      @foggyvalleyacres  Рік тому

      I would honestly fix the 441, it’s a great saw. A tad on the hefty side but they are built great. Since you already have the 441 and most likely it would be a pretty simple fix I’d definitely go that route.

      @@foggyvalleyacres I got it apart and fixed. Water had gotten in around the throttle cable and linkage and the saw dust around that area set up like cement. Took alot of brushing,picking,and carb cleaner but shes ;back up and running.

      I have both, the 441 non m tronic and bought a 462 this year. Love the 462, light, nimble and cuts faster then the 441. Use both for bucking, but the 462 is turning out to be a more all around saw due to it being lighter. Both are great saws.

      @@frankhabenicht9848 yeah the 462 is a big improvement over the 441. I finally picked up my new cable the other day but haven't replaced it yet. It looks like its gonna be a tough one to get at. I'll probably have to pull the carb and handle all apart.
