The Radiomaster Boxer is a very popular radio, but I find the way the antenna stick to be troublesome for transportation. You can remove and attach back the antenna, but that is also a bit annoying. Therefore, I've been trying to create a modification to avoid this issue. This is a new version which doesn't require opening the radio at all.
If you want to see another similar modification, but where you have to open the radio, please watch:

The 3D printed part can be downloaded from:

Another awesome video and well explained. 🤟🏻
Thanks my friend!
If the 3d print had a hindge it would be perfect. Fold it flat for storage and unfold for full range... the radio itself blocks signal so it becomes more directional this close to the radio. I wish radiomaster did the antenna as on pocket or jumper t20 on the boxer... if a mod exist for this type of antenna I would do it... infact I would buy a boxer shrinked to t20 style in a heart beat. Boxer seams better for pinchers but still a tad big for my liking.
I thought about something like that, the problem is that you don’t really have a solid place to add a hinge unless you start to mess with the radio, opening holes, adding heat inserts and so on.
I've sent radiomaster an email asking for the same you're talking about. Write to them, maybe they Will takes that.
For long range performance isn't an adapter inbetween reducing the performance?
Great mod for not opening it.
Potentially, but why are you naming an adapter? There’s no adapter here. We are building an antenna basically, just changing the connector to work with the radio.
What do you think about putting a foldable style antenna like for example in the Tx16s?
That would be great in my opinion. I don’t have the knowledge to design it myself but I’ve seen one or two designs on this on the internet which looks solid.
@@NordFPV Have you tried to put the Tx16s one on the Boxer????
I actually haven't...but the TX16 is fixed, you can't remove it, so it will be a bit painful to "transplant"@@blackclown6191
Ah I see, I tried with the antenna that came with the upgrade kit for the Zorro that it's similar and it's good @@NordFPV
Whats wrong with the stock antena???
The stock antenna is exposed and can break while transport. For flying it's fine. I intend to do the first mod.
@@NitronNitronhow about take you only 3s to unscrew the antena out before travel?
It’s true that it doesn’t take that long to unscrew and screw it back again, but I rather have something more permanent, first because I don’t want to lose it, second because the RPSMA connector has a limited number of screw in and out.
In reality these mods are not a must, it’s just a way to tinker and adapt the product more to what I think will work better for me.
@@NordFPV wow good to know that they have limited on count in and out screw👍👍👍, maybe i will do the same of you 👌👌👌❤️
The number of mating cycles is "high", in the hundreds, but still. Check this link out for more information.

Did you test swr?
I have not done any scientific test, but I’ve been using this radio as my main radio since the mod and I have not notice any problem.
@@NordFPV Sure, I asked since this can be checked with few clicks in the radio itself. Thanks
Nice. Can you teach me how? Or point me to a link?
@@NordFPV afaik it is in the Hardware tab in the menu - one of the last lines. When antena is uninterrupted (meaning you are not holding it in the hand etc) it should read 0 or 1. Higher reading can suggest that something is off (bad tuned antena, bad quality antena etc). Bardwell says about it in old Taranis x9d antena mod tutorial video. I learned about it when I was doing it myself and checking if I did it right and checking few antena options
Does this affect the performance?
I’ve done only very unscientific tests, and I don’t see a big difference. What I’ve seen is that antenna orientation has a difference and with this antenna it will look a bit weird if you rotate it for orientation.
