Hocus Pocus 2 is a surprisingly good sequel and we're glad we decided to do a movie commentary and reaction video for it cause it's nice to have fun movies on our channel. With all the ridiculousness of the original and some good quality acting from the newcomers, this sequel really does a great job recapturing the magic of the Sanderson sisters

It took me two viewings to realize that the witch the sisters met in the beginning had done the power spell evidenced by the facts that she was alone, she could shapeshift (something we’ve never seen the sisters do), and that she had the purple eyes.

One thing that my friend pointed out is that the older witch seems very sad for the lost of her coven. So, may be, she used the spell as well and that’s why she warned then about it. I like this theory.

I like that they made the witches unaware of a lot of things from the modern times while not making them stupid. Like at 26:35. They don't know what lotions and stuff are so they're intrigued but they're also not fully buying it, with Mary not just being focused on that and keeping an eye on the "40-year-olds."

This is honestly a pretty good example of how to reimagine/build off of existing properties, they didn’t try and make it more serious, they didn’t try and justify child eating. It was just focusing on the sisters cause they’re the best part, then blended 90s comedy with a more current comedy

  • @Sunnyie_Eve

When I rewatched this for the second time I noticed the girls were set up to be just like the sisters when you look at the color pallet of their outfits. And I believe the mother witch knew not to use the spell because her eyes glowed purple just like Winnie when she gets all the power.
And I get there’s some plot holes especially when them forgetting the salt part. But I’ve argued with ppl on twitter about how she got the book. In the original the story goes the devil himself gave Winnie the book but in this they show the mother witch give it to her. I explained that in the first one they could have made that up to tell over generations (yes they have met the devil but the sisters themselves never say he gave them the book.) Just like how everyone that Billy was her lover but it was one kiss because no one knew the real story.

And during that time anything strange or “magic” was blamed on the works of Satan. Like black cats were at times thought to be witches who could transform.

  • @scottc5716
    @scottc5716 Рік тому +40

Great commentary! I’ve been waiting for your thoughts ☺️
Salt was used in the first film too. Allison read it in Book after they burned the witches in the school kiln. She put some round her and Max when the witches came to the house for Dani and Winifred called her a “clever little white witch”. They also put a circle around Dani and Allison threw it at Sarah during the final stand-off in the graveyard.
For some reason, the sequel suggests the witches are surprised that salt can be used against them. Maybe they meant that the witches didn’t realise it can be reversed on them i.e. a circle of salt around the victim will protect them from dark magic but a circle around the witches themselves keeps them contained.

While I liked the film as a whole, part of me wishes that they could have simply made it a prequel instead, following the exploits of the Sanderson Sisters in their youth. Those scenes were easily the most entertaining, in my opinion.

I'm not gonna lie, I wholeheartedly disagree that the sequel is better than the original. That being said, this was a fun movie but it just didn't feel very fitting as a sequel. I was disappointed that Max, Allison and Dani didn't come back, I thought it was weird to bring Billy back and the kids in this movie weren't as interesting as the kids in the original. I also wasn't a fan of making the main girl a witch. Seemed kind of random. I did however enjoy the Sanderson sisters both the prologue and the present time. It was fun watching Bette, SJP and Kathy reprise their roles.

I loved the comedy in Hocus Pocus 2, but I really thought the plot was sub-par. Rather than having the new girls find real solutions, they just magically discovered one of them had powers that solved everything. And I hated that they gave the witches a redemption arc. They are evil and literally kill children. So the ending was awful in my opinion. That's something I really dislike about modern Disney. Basically every villain is given a sympathetic background and redemption arc.

But these apples typically are coated in caramel and then a layer of white chocolate and then another layer of some other topping(s)~ My favorites are either the apple pie one (cinnamon sugar crumbs) or blue raspberry (blue sugar crystals sprinkles that taste like cotton candy), but they have like a margarita one, various chocolate & nuts combos, candy bars, etc~~~ And they're massive apples, and they'll slice them for you^.^ Way better than a dinky store-bought caramel or candy apple!

I think those two should apologize to Cassie, the main character was just insufferable. They literally left their friend out of their group because they couldnt share their friend like any mature person would. If they dont want to socialize thats fine, but dont get mad at your friend for literally making more friends. She came off as jelous and possesive, and honestly she was such a witch(just change that w for a b) to the boyfriend, you could tell he was literally just making conversation and didnt mean to offend them, he even invited them to the party. She should have spent time thinking she won and should have spent some time going on with her life without her sisters, celebrating at first, but then slowly realizing her life without them is incomplete. Even if it's just a montage, it would have shown her growth, and it could have been comical to see her realize how limited she was without her sisters, even after being all powerful. THEN her character missing her sisters could have felt more earned. Just my opinion.

UA-cam unsubbed me from yalls channel. THEM FIGHTING WORDS UA-cam. Ugh I can’t believe they would do this to me. I re-subbed but god thats so infuriating.
Also Hocus Pocus 2 should have focused on their younger selves and how they’ve come to be especially the younger days of how tortured women were if they wanted a real sympathy route.

I’m not sure why the salt was a new plot idea . In the first one they used salt ! So I’m not sure why the witches were shocked that salt could stop them?

I have all the fleshed out my own version of hocus-pocus too and I mostly wrote this when they first announced that there was going to be a second movie and so I think I went into this movie with my grand ideas and was a little disappointed at the subpar plot line. I also didn’t want the Sanderson sisters to have a redemption arc I wanted them to stay big bad.

of course, Allison uses salt against them in the original, for which they call her a "clever white which." Major plot hole for me.

@@funsalmon I don’t think they were surprised by salt, it’s the fact she did magic with it.

@funsalmon I actually just commented that ! They used salt in the first one to block magic (like a barrier) and now the witches are shocked that salt works . Like uh yah - fully agree plot hole central

I have an issue with Gilbert both as a character and his motivations. Firstly, Gilbert is a villain. If for no other reason he brought back three which is that eat children. However, the movie does not treat him like a villain and I have a problem with that because he brought back three which is who eat children. Like all the wacky slapstick shit that happens to him I don’t care about because he should go to jail. Secondly, as a character his decision making baffles me because he has a black man decided he wanted to bring back three olden day white women which is who are known for killing people and doesn’t see why that would be a problem clearly. Thirdly, and I’m not sure if this one should be myself but like his explanation for why he wants to bring them back is dumb. It also doesn’t track again with the fact that he is a black man who is a little black child witnessed three witches blowup and then still stayed in that town. Even if his family made him stay in that town once he was old enough to leave I don’t know that many black people who wouldn’t have. And I love magical realism and suspend belief for the sake of the movie but like I just want them to acknowledge that he is a villain and that his decision making is dumb.
