      Its always Eruption but the studio version is the only time its "only" Eruption. When its played live its Eruption but he plays the others also. Thats how I see it.
      Besides, It's way easier to call everything Eruption. Takes way less time out of my day. I have more time for activities.

    EVH has always been called the Mozart of the electric guitar for his pristine, glistening technique and melodic invention. The comparison is fitting, but the more apt analogy may be to Beethoven. Eddie revolutionized the instrumental potential of the guitar as an means of human expression, introducing his own musical language, creating harmonic complexities unheard of before he came along. His appearance on the scene wasn’t a progression in the art, but an explosion that upended what we thought were the limits of the instrument. He rearranged the molecules of rock music in a way that everything after him is, in many ways, *because* of him. He’s one of those once-in-a-century talents that literally becomes a touchstone by which we measure the evolution of human creativity in art. Eddie, you lived your purpose and did good, and we thank you. How sad to live in a world without Eddie Van Halen in it.

    • @lisawillis1287
      @lisawillis1287 3 роки тому +14

      You know, I have made the Mozart comparison as well, but you make a good point about Beethoven. In addition to rock and metal, I love classical music. I can never decide who is the best, Mozart, Beethoven, or Chopin. But I love them all, and I love Eddie Van Halen. And it's funny, they all died young. Mozart at age 35, Chopin at 39, Beethoven at 57 I think, and Eddie Van Halen at 65. Though 57 is not considered that young for Beethoven's time, but certainly in our time.

    • @MaestroFiddler
      @MaestroFiddler 3 роки тому +7

      @@lisawillis1287 The beauty of art is never having to choose one *over* another because these geniuses gifted us their unique voices and vision through the medium of music. Each’s art speaks to specific yearnings, aspirations, anxieties, and hopes. Each taps into something almost indescribable within each of us, much that we can find commonality with and some that perhaps only we, as individuals, find meaning in that others may not. Ultimately, language fails in adequately quantifying the deep impact the best art has on us, but we know it’s real. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, EVH, they’re all sui generis shooting stars. They pass by and dazzle us, then they’re gone. What they leave, however, is something that speaks to the best in us. The true Olympians alter the paradigm of our daily experiences by creating new views into a higher realm of understanding and spiritual fulfillment.

      With all due respect Mozart would most likely outshred Eddie and use a violin to do it. Chopin said (paraphrased) “Mozart mastered the symphony. All I have is the piano”. Eddie’s a genius. Mozart is otherworldly.

    • @lisawillis1287
      @lisawillis1287 3 роки тому +5

      @@orbitaljellyfish808 I think I disagree with you. No question about Mozart's genius, and I am not prepared to say Eddie is as good as Mozart, but he's closer than you think. Rock music is a more simplistic form than classical, so the parallels are perhaps harder to see, but Eddie's composition skills are extremely high. As a virtuoso rock guitarist, Steven Vai is probably comparable, but he's not the composer Eddie is.
      As for the Chopin quote, he also said that when he died he wanted Mozart played at his funeral, and not his own music. (Also a paraphrase). But Chopin I think was being modest. Chopin has composed some of the most beautiful pieces ever written, he is absolutely at or near the level of Mozart and Beethoven. And @Edward Oh, I know, again I'm leaving out Bach. I agree, Bach is an amazing genius, but I think Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin are all better. And I would not put Eddie completely at their level, but I'm not sure. A I said, I find it hard to make the comparison. It's like saying who is better, Kobe Bryant or Walter Payton? You can only compare to a certain extent, because they are playing different sports.
      A good friend of mine loves classical music but does not think much of Metallica. He says, "they are the master of three chords". And I tried to explain to him, the roots of rock and metal are found in blues music, and in some cases jazz. In blues music, the riff is the most important element. So you must judge a person's composition skills based on what they are trying to do, and what new aspects they bring to it.
      And one more point about Mozart, ( I know, I'm talking too much, sorry lol), perhaps because I'm a pianist I have something of a bias, but Mozart's best works in my opinion are his piano sonatas and fantasias. I'm not knocking his symphonies and operas, and his requiem is just breathtaking! Though I usually only listen to the first two movements, the two he completed before dying. The rest were completed by his some of his students, if I remember correctly.
      And it is perhaps is the sonatas of Mozart and Beethoven where the parallels with Eddie Van Halen can be easier to see. Sonatas are trying to "do" something different than a symphony. You must always remember that when judging compositions. John Williams has not been mentioned is this discussion, who is also an absolute genius. But when composing music soundtracks, he is trying to "do" something different. Intent is the key when trying judge compositions.

    1986, this was Eddie's prime. Us guitar players still dream about getting that good at anything, let alone the guitar. RIP 🙏

    Saw this live April 14, 1986 at the Omni in Atlanta. Great memories-the energy, the fun, the lack of some political message, the escape. Miss those days.

      @@yourinnervoiceyourinnervoi8552 Exactly if I'm at a concert I might take a couple pictures just so I can have those memories later on but I'm not going to record the whole damn thing I'm going to experience it for myself
