he has a repeating echo ...a delay .... and that repeat is on a set milliseconds ....and he moves the volume knob of the guitar in the ``beat`` of the repeat of the delayreturn.....
This is beyond talent. This is mastery of an instrument. This is a case of a player that can make the instrument sing. Eddie Van Halen will never be duplicated. He is 1 of 1.
Love Van Halen, Love the pure guitar talent, that is/was Eddie Van Halen. The sound and technique are unapparelled and groundbreaking but he is missing the time tested hits and riffs the other legends provided .
Onl person close is Steve Vai he is right there imo
That's not David Lee Roth but it's really Sammy Hagar who is the second lead singer of the band
@@gregscott3479Wait... Van Halen is missing the hits and riffs others have provided? Exactly which others are we talking about here?
@@bunnyshredderrl8689 They mean the channel host is missing out on time-tested riffs and hits other guitar legends have provided. In other words while Eddie is a legend there are a lot of amazing guitarists who deserve credit, too.
As a non-American and a rock fan, it's hard for me to understand how any American has never heard of Eddie Van Halen. A legend.
That would be akin to a Brit never hearing about Eric Clapton.
Agreed.@@vohawk
A lot of Americans nowadays just don’t care about the classic anymore /: sad days
Couldn’t agree more.
As an American, I love Eddie Van Halen, JImi Hendrix, Ted Nugent, etc. as the guitar masters they are, but - and I hate to admit it, but by my count, there are more British Classic Rock-era guitar greats than American ones. Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore, Pete Townshend, Brian May, Mark Knopfler, George Harrison, Tony Iommi, Keith Richards, Angus Young.... just off the top of my head.
There are more, of course, but I just don't know that I could name as many great American guitarists from the same period. Thank you Britain for that British Invasion gift to the world!
I’ve been watching Eddie for 40 years and I still can’t explain it. I love watching people experience his talent for the first time. He was/is the most unbelievable player
His innovation, energy, and musical ear came out everytime he played. He took what Hendrix gave us and made it better. He was the MJ of guitarists. All the great bands of the 80s and 90s grew up and wanted to be like Eddie. He shaped todays rock guitar. There will never be another EVH.
Eddie was what in sports would be referred to as a generational talent. He literally changed the course of Rock.
Exactly. He will always be an inspiration for my own style of guitar playing and I will always consider him the GOAT of guitarists.
Jordan on the guitar! King Eddie!
A true SO Cal boy
The rock was rolling, and he pushed it down a new path.
One of my favorite things is watching people react to this guitar solo. It's like getting to witness it for the first time all over again.
So well put
Eddie raised the bar for all to come. He was one of those once in a generation players. And i LOVE your reaction😊
Fuck his IGNORANT reaction . No EVH the KING is not DIDDY, sorry😅
I love the fact, that a not only different generation, but a different culture is learning new stuff to put it very lightly. Thank you for your review!
R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen! You were a master at your craft and will never be duplicated. Love this song and your reaction was priceless.
The thing I love most about this particular video, is that you can see how much fun EVH is having. All the band drama, record label bs, exhaustion from touring is gone. Just him, his guitar, in front if a huge audience, and just happy, if even for only those few moments. Doesn't get any better than that
That sums it up I seen them four times this was my favorite part of the show just making that thing scream
That's why I LOVE the Alchemy Live version of Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits. They are ALL having a blast and it's contagious. Terry Williams on drums is breathtaking. Mark Knopfler is a God. You simply cannot watch it and not be happy.
These days, guitarists change the tones and style of play by using pedals to change between different ones. This man has never used pedals. All the various tones you’re hearing are coming from that man playing his guitar. It’s amazing. I grew up listening to this man. Utterly amazing.
And your reaction is priceless…. 100%
False, Eddie used pedals. Including the MXR Phase 90. He eventually had his own entire line of pedals made by MXR. And yes, he used them.
I'm afraid you're far from correct about Eddie not using pedals. Almost every electric guitarist uses some kind of effects, drive/distortion, time effects like delay, spatial effects like reverb, modulation effects like chorus, flanger, phaser, altering/sweeping effects like wah. Many amps actually have effects built into them, and most amps have at least two channels - one for clean and one for overdrive/distortion. But mostly here it's just distortion cranked up and incredible fingers.
Around 13:25 you can literally hear the spatial effects. I just don't know what would make you say that Eddie never used pedals, that's wild to me.

I was fortunate enough to watch this tour when they came to Raleigh NC. Watching eruption live was unforgettable ❤ thank you for the music and the memories Eddie
That my friend, was a guitar freestyle at it's finest!! I'm so glad you got to this 1! The guy who introduced Eddie was Sammy Hagar, who took over as lead singer after David Lee Roth decided to leave the band....The look on your face made this reaction PRICELESS!! 🫶
Actually isn't freestyle. If you listen, all of that are solos from various albums. To me thats even more impressive
@@adamnorth877 Yeah, on the one part, I was ready to hear "You Really Got Me!"
Most music fans In general may not know Eddie Van Halens name. But they know the song name and or heard it on the radio or on a record player. 60 thru 80s was still big radio and cassettes and records. Some of us never knew what these performers looked like then. Lol
The first time I watched this( many years ago-yes, unbelievable- but that cigarette In the fret board (?) Smoking away. Lol
Correct. My response was going to be ..not freestyled but planned written and practiced hour after hr to look smooth and effortless. @adamnorth877
EVH did the solo for Michael Jackson's "Beat It". Definitely need to check it out. He recorded it without telling his band because he was a little embarrassed. But then the song blew up and everyone recognized his 'sound' so he had to come out and tell everyone. 🤣
He also rearranged Beat It. Michael had an allergy attack when they met, and had to excuse himself.
While gone Eddie did the arrangement and played it for Michael when he returned.
Michael lived the changes and that is the version on the album.
I remember when "Bet It was released and thinking how much of an influence EVH style was on the whole industry because it was his sound. Many years later I learned it was EVH.
Eddie also said about doing the solo “Quincy Jones asked if he would come do it, and Eddie thought nobody would ever hear it but that he would ‘help the kid out”. Apparently he didn’t know much about Michael Jackson and didn’t think anyone would hear it let alone recognize h8m as performing it…
Did it all for 2 cases of beer!!
Rock and roll 🤘
I was there. It changed the world of rock and roll.
Eddie VanHalen built that guitar himself. He called it Frankenstein because it is composed of parts from different guitars. Also notice he is always smiling while he is playing not just because he absolutely loved playing guitar and in front of millions of fans. Bit it was so easy for him to play because he practiced all the time... he had his guitar with him everywhere he went.
I met him once. I asked him for pointers on how to play. He simply said practice practice and more practice... he tried to practice 12 hours a day. That is pure dedication and love for his art... not to mention all the innovative things he gave to the entire music industry.. Tens of thousands of guitarists are heavily influenced by Eddie's guitar styles. Definitely no doubt, hands down, the greatest guitarist ever in my lifetime. I am blessed to have lived during the Era of the greatest Rockstar in history. I am truly honored to have met Eddie VanHalen
That was actually a Kramer signature model. That original strat was used before and after the Kramer era
@@wesley7376 Thanks. How do you make a mistake like that if you are a supposed fan?
Jim, I don`t doubt you met Ed Van Halen. I sure wish I did. That guitar is a Kramer, which Ed played from this tour to about 1990. Then his Wolfgang guitars came out, and he played those exclusively till his death. I wanna yell at you! LOL
It wasn't Frankenstein...it was Frankenstrat or Frankie
@@truthcanhurt4800 You are wrong friend. He called it Frankenstein and it was the same guitar from VH 1 thru to it`s color and stripes it now has.
I always get chills and eventually a few tears when I watch people react to this video. I grew up on Eddie Van Halen. My first ever cassette (80’s kid!) was Van Halen II, my first big stadium show was this same tour in Vancouver, I still own a cheap VH necklace I ordered out of a rock magazine because I saw Eddie and Valerie Bertinelli wearing one. His death hit me hard because of how big a part he was of my life from the early 80’s on and will continue to be til I die and get to meet the legend himself.
But yeah, I love watching people discover this man and seeing your faces when you realize what this guy could do. I only hope that you take the time to listen to more of his catalogue. Listen to Van Halen I and try to envision what it would be like for people to hear this for the first time back in ‘78 when there was NOTHING like it out there yet. You might recognize something in this solo from that album….
I’m so glad I got to see this man a couple of times live before he passed. And he passed way too soon. RIP Eddie 🫶 🎸
Amen to that man, nobody can play like this, greetings off a big EFH fan from Holland.
80s were a magical time for guitarists. Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoades was still with Ozzy, Angus Young and AC/DC was coming into his own, Jimmy Page was killing it with Led Zeppelin, later The Yardbirds... Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits), Carlos Santana, Brian May(Queen), Slash(Guns n' Roses), just too many to name.
Joe Satriani, Steve Vai...Guitar God's were definitely the gift from the 80's.
although I agree with the 80s being the best era for guitar shredding, a couple of these bands you mentioned are not actually that era..Angus Young (AC/DC ) started in early 70s had many albums out and many of their most famous hits before the 80s..Led Zepplin was broke up by 1980..Yardbirds was a 60s band (jeff Beck and Eric Clapton) which later reunited in some form in the 90s. Queen also 70s band with like 9 albums by 1980....80s guitarists were basically the hair metal bands Motley Crue (Mick Mars), Ratt (warren Demartini), Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, Dokken (George Lynch), Billy Idols (steve Stevens), Vinnie Vincent, guitarists who started and made a name in the 80s..lol

Seriously Beethoven, Bach, tapping, deliberate pinched harmonics, speed shredding and speed feathering higher than I thought a guitar could be played! No one did divebombs as well. RIP to the GOAT! An accomplished keyboard player and self-taught guitarist! Eddie will ALWAYS be truly reveared and for ever missed!! I doubt we'll EVER see anyone of his ilk again!!! Jon from Aus
Nice comment right up until you used the word "ilk" . Not sure what you were trying to say, but very bad choice of words.

Man, you are blessed. I really wish I could experience this for the first time again.
His classical background shines through in his solos. He created or perfected the two handed tapping style that every guitar player tries to emulate.
RIP Eddie, you are greatly missed, best there ever was.
What I like so much about watching him play is that he's just having fun. So many other guitarists look like they're working their ass off but Eddie always had a smile on his face.
Thanks for posting your reaction. It's totally awesome when we can appreciate true mastery, no matter where it comes from. I discovered Van Halen back in 1978, and I was blown away just like you. I'd never heard anything like it before. That band literally changed the face of hard rock music forever. And Eddie Van Halen. What more can I say? There will never be another like him. His talent was just mind-boggling!
One of the greatest of all time. Started as a drummer, lol. His classical interpretation of Spanish Fly is unbelievable. God rest his soul. Thanks for the memories
His ability to make the guitar sound like 2 instruments is incredible
He was amazing! No one has played/ plays like Eddie. His influence is all over any guitar player that cares about guitar playing greatness. I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to witness him in person. Truly amazing. 💜
You're forgetting his closest rival. The one and only Randy Rhoads. EVH was known to have people at Randys gigs recording so he could keep close tabs on Randy. They both came up at the same time and on the same rock scene and were very aware of eachothers abilities. It was amazing that the 2 all time greats ran in the same circles at the same time and im sure Randy had people spying on Eddie aswell.
@@DmON_WINGS Randy is definitely on the list of GOATS!
Another great one Dime Bag rip.

I bet it was awesome.
The faces you made while watching Eddie were priceless. I've been a Van Halen fan since the early 80's. This was my first time on your channel, had fun watching you. Great reaction video. R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen.
Eddie was pure magic on the guitar. This was a man doing what we was literally born to do. He created so many styles and techniques that nobody has duplicated. Watching you discover it was a treat
Eddie was one of the very most influential guitarist who has ever lived. he broke a ton of new ground and you can still see and hear his influence today.
My son, at age 10 came in with his guitar and played Sandman by Metalica by just hearing it. He is 33 now. He's still a self-taught metal guitarist, producer, and sound engineer. I can appreciate this reaction ❤
I am 73: and it is WONDERFUL and FUN to see New School meeting Old School! Boy, you got some GREAT listening in front of you! I also LOVE your honesty, little Brother!
Eddie grew up playing classical music on the piano which influenced his song writing and solos a great deal. Within Eruption, there are several parts that were influenced by pieces from Mozart, Beethoven and other classical composers. That was what you were picking up on. Eddie absolutely pioneered tons of new techniques and styles within the guitar world and influenced many that we see today.
I was there!!! Front row I was 17 ❤
I loved Eddie so much because he always smiled...huge. cuter than all get out!
I was lucky enough to see Van Halen live in 1984 and Eddie is hands down the best to ever pick up a guitar. This video is good vut live the man made animal sounds with his guitar
Thank you for proving that music is universal, touching every soul. The great unifier, it is!
I'm so happy you did this reaction. Eddie and his brother Alex ( drummer) were classically trained by their father. When Eddie found the guitar he excelled at it. However, he had sounds in his mind that could not be created with a regular guitar 🎸. So, Eddie built his own 🎸 from different parts of other guitars ; he named it the Frakenstrat. No other guitars had the timber and tones because there was only one Frankenstrat. Also you mentioned it almost sounds like he's playing a violin. A little known secret is Eddie loved playing the Chello. Eddie only played the Chello for himself and his family.Never publicly.( That I know of) The guitar, piano and Chello are string instruments. The 3 stringed instruments he loved . He could mix and match the sounds and make one instrument sound like another. I saw Van Halen on this tour. The entire arena was blown the fuck away🎉
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. What an amazing person you are. 👏
The funny part was Eddie was given the drums and Alex the guitar they obviously swapped 😮
He also built his 5150 line of amps you can still purchase today and wow they are absolutely beautiful to hear the tone is just perfect!
Another little fact was that while Eddie and Alex were classically trained, Eddie never learned how to read music. He always learned to play by listening and figuring it out on his own.
Good gawd, can you spell CELLO??
Arguably the best Guitarist I the world. Sadly passed away a few years ago. Not sure all the ins and outs but tap solos are Eddie's strongest point. Basically you strum the strings and as long as you have your fingers on the neck you can keep the sound alive which is what he was doing. Nobody did it like Eddie
Actually, Eddie picked up the tapping from Roy Clark.
@@TexasDonna-xu6fq Eddie never claimed to have invented tapping , he just made it popular to the masses. Roy Clark is an icon , no one seemed to be having a better time while playing than Roy. Ear to ear grin while slaying it be it a banjo or guitar. R.I.P. to both.
@@rogerdaly6326 I agree! RC played the heck out anything that had strings!
Don't be forgetting Eddie's biggest rival from long before either made the big time was Randy Rhoads. They knew eachothers talents from way back and definitely pushed eachother to the edge of what was possible with the axe. They're probably jammming together now just like before anyone had ever heard of either of them. The 2 all time greats will live forever through the music and for that we can all be happy.
I have heard that Eddie's son, Wolfgang, can play eruption just as well.
I watched you introduce two young guys to Eddie and now I get
To watch you watch it for the first time. Keep talking I love these reaction videos I watch the faces of the people reacting. I had my daughter and her boyfriend watch this and it was their first time. Their reactions we priceless. I saw them on that tour❤❤.
I have seen Eddie live n he is simply AMAZING
My man could make his guitar sound like a violin, a cello, all playing with volume and amplifiers. Just insane. A trailblazer too. Ren in the opening to Violet's Tale, does the tapping that Eddie really brought to the mainstream. I luckily got to see them on this tour, and OMG, to see and hear it live in a stadium?
Well his guitar was 100% custom by him pretty much, if you went to a store back then and bought one he wouldn't be able to recreate all the stuff he plays without mods.
A small portion of this solo started out as a warm up exercise before club gigs or backyard parties. While Van Halen was recording their debut album it only took one take to record it. Through the years Eddie would experiment with sounds & effects. So he would add parts to it or take away.He never played it the same. From 1978-2015 "The Mozart of Rock Guitar: quoted by his son
"The Mozart of Rock Guitar," as quoted by his son. Without question.
For eruption he also had influence from lestley west from mountain, there is another legendary guitarist as well, the man had a 1958 flying V and made it sustain a note for over a minute, it's insane.
I went to PCC in 1979 and had friends that went to their backyard gigs.
Sometimes it would also be a lead in to "You really got me"
The reason I watch reaction videos is to hear honest commentary... It's nice to hear these songs from a fresh perspective. Good Job!!

I agree! I saw him 16 times!! lol I'm so glad I saw him with DLR, SH and the other guy in 1998. They all were awesome shows because it was all Eddie!! King of 6 strings!
@@billmckee1123 lol Gary "the other guy" Cherone. I'm the only one in my family that can remember his name. Everyone else calls him the other guy. During that tour, Alex got into a bad car accident the night before we saw him in Buffalo. We thought we weren't going to see them. He showed up in medical gauss and a neck brace... that f'er still knocked it out of the park LOL...
"What are you watching"....A LEGEND making love to his guitar!!! ❤
For newbies to the incredible world of the late great Edward Van Halen, he didn't invent these techniques but he took them EXPONENTIALLY further than any other guitarist before him. The tapping he does on the fretboard of the guitar with his right hand is called just that - finger taps. The dive bomb sound is called just that and it's done by pushing the "whammy bar" connected the spring loaded bridge on the guitar to the bottom of its travel. The violin sounds are called "volume swells" produced by raising or lowering his guitar volume with his right hand. He's also using an echo effect on his floor pedals which he can engage or disengage with his foot. Eddie's right hand picking speed was as fast as you will ever hear from any top tier metal guitarist.
I liked your surprised looks and realization of Eddie's work. That was enough for me, as a life-long Van Halen fan. Edward was a truly unique, and penultimate talent. He could play any instrument. Piano, drums, bass, vocals and guitar - he did it all and very well. Edward created so many sounds and styles of playing, that musicians are still trying to catch up and learn from his innovations.
This is insane genius at it's finest. Eddie showing his unimaginable gift and his big brother backing him on the drums. Eddie was self taught and he was only held back by his imagination and when he was able to harness that there was nothing that he was unable to do or accomplish. He will forever be the GOAT when it comes to the guitar. Guitar World magazine named Eddie as THE guitar. GOD !! No one has ever come close to what Eddie did with the guitar. When Michael Jackson wanted the best guitarist to play on his song and Quincy Jones told him that their was no one better than Edward Van Halen. After Eddie reworked his song and wrote and performed it Michael Jackson had his guitar solo for his song "Beat it".
Great vid! I found your commentary respectful, insightful, and humorous. Your ability to keep an open mind and appreciation for various music styles is awesome.
It's always beautiful to hear. Was even more amazing to see in person. I get goose bumps everytime and tear up knowing he left us too soon. Plus the pure joy on his face....just leaves me in awe.
He is the most revolutionary guitar player of all time, that changed guitar history more than any other single guitar player ever. If that doesn't make you the goat I don't know what does.
Definitely the most influential from the 80s! Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix...60s and 70s
@@juliemanarin4127 I'd also go back a bit further and mention Chuck Berry in terms on grandeoise performances

EVH wrote the soundtrack to the best times of my life. First saw them at the US festival in 83 when I was 15. I have wrestled with the fact that I cried more when Edward died than when my father passed and we were very close. RIP king Edward.
That disclaimer about talking too much went right out the window! That is the reaction we all had the first time. Nice one. Love the channel
I love your reaction. It's, honest, genuine, and from the heart. Honestly, the Best Reaction to this video.
If you ever take the opportunity to hear the original studio version of Eruption on their first album (simply named "Van Halen") & then compare this live performance with other VH songs, it's basically Eruption plus Eddie's solo rifts from other songs being integrated into it. At first, Eruption is what Eddie would play backstage as his finger warm-up exercises before coming out on stage but they also decided to include it as a track on their album.
Literally have chills listening to him. I grew up listening to him. He is incomparable. RIP Eddie. I hope you and Neil Peart are rocking out together!
Loved your reaction at the end! Perfect reaction!!!!
Imagine how we felt hearing this for the first time in 1978. Lucky to have seen them live a dozen times over the years. RIP King Edward! ❤
I was sitting in the band room in high school in 1978 when one of our drummers brought in Van Halen's first album and said "you guys gotta hear this".....and then he dropped the needle on Eruption.....
The guitar world changed with that solo. RIP Eddie............
Yes...1978 forever changed the world of music. ✌❤
The thing I love about Eddie even more than his playing was his smile. He is such an upbeat personality.A maestro but also a gentleman. R.I.P
He had my favorite smile in all of rock!!!! 🫠
I am a 61 yo white guy.. first time viewer.. your doing a great job.. 👍 now I'm a subscriber
Eruption is quite an emotional piece for me. I first saw him at a backyard party (and sever times after) in 76 and was amazed. I went to their farewell performance when the first album with Eruption came out in 78 and got to see him perform this at the US Festival in 83. It's always had the main elements but his simply grown longer and better through the years. That first spot where you mentioned having heard it before, it is the most used part for clips and other intense moments in movies. It's the part that first hit me at that party and gives me chills every time I hear it. Eddie is what made Van Halen and he is sorely missed. R.I.P.
It's the glorious smile on eddies face the whole time that makes these video's he's a man having fun doing something that just make him and everyone listening happy. And you're right every kid who picked up a guitar since has been looking for this kind of joy.
Honestly the best reaction to Eddie’s solo I’ve seen. Calm, cool, collective and real.!! And I have seen them all.
Back in the day, when their first album came out, it changed everything. Everyone was talking about it and no one could figure out he did it.I still remember the first time I heard Eruption. I was on a school bus getting ready to head to Kansas City for the the FFA national convention. Don't remember the year, but I remember sitting at the the side of the school in the bus and one of the kids firing up their boom box and little pieces of heaven streaming out of the speakers.
Your reaction was epic!!! Love from Italy 🇮🇹
The intro of his playing, was a instrumental called “316” wrote for his son, Wolfgang, who was born on 3-16.
“Cathedral” is still one of the coolest songs of his. That started at 14:06 ,. Unreal
But Eddie is why I play guitar! 🤘🏽
The sleeper on the Live Without a Net concert is Summer Nights. Eddie’s solo is on another level. He’s in a zone and absolutely killing it.
It's my favorite performance. Especially because he rarely played it live afterward (the Steinberg was a pain in the ass to play and difficult to maintain). Even here you can see he breaks a string (probably due to the trem unit tension going out of whack).
Agreed..Summer Nights is a great song ❤
I do not mind your pauses. I’m here FOR your reaction. ❤❤
I saw Van Halen 3 times….and it was never enough!
RIP, EVH….long live King Edward!
June 5th, 1988. My parents gave me 3 tickets to see Eddie for my high school graduation. Myself and two friends drove to Tampa Florida for the weekend and saw the greatest guitar player of all time. I will never forget that show or that weekend. Great job with your reactions brother.

So glad you got to hear this. Eddie was one of the most talented guitarists that's ever lived. If you're looking for more guitarists/ songs to react to, I'd recommend Gary Clark Jr (Numb), Prince (While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Rock and Roll Induction tribute), Jeff Healey (While My Guitar Gently Weeps), and Eric Clapton (Layla - Derek & the Dominos Live).
I see you're missing the greatest axe man besides Eddie. The one and only Randy Rhoads. Eddie's biggest rival that Eddie had people recording Randy at gigs and spies in the studio if he was able. I'm sure Randy done the same since they both ran in the same circles and played in the same venues from the very beginning and they both got big time around the same time. Both were very aware of eachothers abilities and it also pushed each of them to the boundary of possibilities and we reaped the rewards of their rivalry. Both will never be equalled or forgotten ❤❤
You cannot fail to mention Roy Clark, one of the greatest and most under-appreciated pickers to ever lift a guitar.
Yes, all of those are worth checking out. Two others that stand out for me are Pantera's Dimebag Darrell (Cemetery Gates) and Gary Moore's Still Got The Blues For You (Extended version).
Bro I just ran across your channel browsing YT and like you this was the first time witnessing that solo. We share the same reaction of being awestruck at the talent of Eddie. Will be checking out more of your channel and look forward to your reactions and insight in the future.
I love your reactions!!!! I appreciate your commentary! REST IN PEACE Eddie Van Halen xo
Was at this show. 10th row on the floor. New Haven coliseum, Ct. King Eddie was drunk as hell and still killed it. (Lightning in a bottle.) Long live the king!!!!!!
Eddie didn't create finger tapping on the guitar but he made it famous. It's not a difficult technique but wasn't done much back then. His blend of blues, tapping, pop sensibilities, guitar sound manipulation, neo classical & rock hit the industry like a truck & set it on fire. It changed the way many people played guitar & approached it afterwards as result. Eddie is a legend for his fusion of all these things seamlessly & the ability to improvise with all those tools on top of it. If you haven't yet, you should check out Yngwie Malmsteen - Black Star (Live). You will lose ur mind if you liked this.
I've been watching your videos all day. I love when you talk. I don't usually listen to rap music, but have watched some of those too. I like your reaction videos better. I like getting to know a part of you. I think you're funny. Thank you for the work you do.

what's even more extraordinary is that guitar remains solid in tune after all the aggressive string bends and multiple tremolo pulls and dives. He built that guitar himself at his own shop. Its very hard to attack a guitar like that and still remain in tune, absolutely extraordinary.
That’s a Kramer signature model. His original Strat is a differ guitar
Eddie for creating new sounds and thrashing, Stevie Ray for straight blues, David Gilmore for feeding emotion into the strings, and Alex Lifeson for mid-song multirhythm changes.
I've always been a RUSH fan because of Peart, but as i dig deeper (and i'm older) Alex is AMAZING!!!! He is always so perfect with his choices.
Thank you for including Lerxst. He definitely belongs up there at the top and he's way behind in deserved recognition.
Gilmore is a beast, no doubt. Very emotional, as you indicated.
The crazy thing about Eddie was that his slund isn't distortion. Its a clean sound overdriven by powerful amps and controlled. by his hands. All of what you just witnessed was just pure talent. But anyone who knows about Eddie knows his real talent was in his rhythm playing. He had such a sense of timing and swing, its almost impossible to duplicate. Hes the best their ever will be.
This was my era! This was my music, real time, in the 80's. Eddie Van Halen reinvented rock music for all time. Wow!
Nobody else had ever "heard sounds like that come from a guitar before" either. I can only imagine what this sounded like in 1978.
It was incredible. ❤🤍🖤
when you first get a shot of eddie you are hooked..happened to me in 1979 when i got their first album as a gift from my buddy unloading shit out of his 1974 trans am..he told me since I was learning guitar learn this..and then i turned the page in my playing
I love your channel PERIOD! Your talking is epic with the music 🎉
Your one of the best reactors on youtube! Your commentary genuine and really awesome.
The greatest rock guitarist of all time! RIP Edward Van Halen
12:30 That “popular sound” you recognize is the actual solo for Eruption. This 13 min “solo” is a compilation of many of his solos!
Absolutely the most influential guitarist in history. Changed the instrument forever.
80s 90s and early 2000s was a crazy time as far as music .. so many types and styles just kept coming out relentlessly. Wish I could relive those times
Now you have to listen to the Van Halen studio sound from their very 1st album....Ain't talking bout love-Van Halen. That sound is like a Alien spaceship landing on earth.....Even Michael Jacksons camp was aware of this virtuoso and invited Eddie to do the solo on Michaels hit song ' Beat it ' and he did it. RIP King Edward Van Halen🎸🎸👑👑❤❤
Not only did he do it, he changed it. Imagine that, changing something Michael wrote!😊
@@Jonkon75 yup this is true. and he did it in an instant too
The two top guitarists Terry Kath, and Eddie VanHalen! Eddie could do everything freaking his guitar talk, sound like a cello, synth, violin, etc. He was like an entire orchestra! Terry could make his guitar talk, and shred like no other! R.I.P. to both ! They are sorely missed😢
Terry Kath’s death was so tragic. I didn’t find out about him until much later in life. Jimmy Hendricks supposedly said Kath played guitar better than himself, high praise indeed.
What most new people who discover EVH don't realize that as a child he was raised to be a classical pianist who found rock and roll and the guitar and transfered his incredible musical knowledge to.the guitar...he was doing things on guitar that were decade's ahead of his time and he changed guitar playing and what was thought possible for the world!!!
Your reaction to Eddies solo is awesome. Eddie was a gift from God. THE master! So happy that you found him and can appreciate his talent.
Saw Van Halen live 5 times. That clip was from 1986, when Eddie was in his prime. Blew me away every time. Love your reaction
RIP to one of the truly greatest❤
Thank you for introducing EVH to the masses. Truly appreciate how much you enjoyed it and how you extolled the excellence of his playing. Prince was also a great player too. Love your show. Keep up the excellent work.
