@@Coffee_Rail1112 they were unfortunately stolen before the museum could get them to their site. They had been set aside by CN but were awaiting transportation. And one night they “disappeared”.
Near this area CN had a branch line that went all the way down to Leamington, Ontario, Heinz Ketchup plant. CN dropped the speed on that line from 25 to 5 mph so they would not have to put any money into it. Heinz started moving their refrigerated ketchup via truck to a train yard near London, Ontario for transport for travel across Canada and elsewhere. This gave CN the green light to abandon the Leamington line and further dry up business on the Caso. This all happened around the year 1998 or so. My neighbor was the Superintendent at the Van de Water yard in Windsor and a great friend, Dennis. Great memories!
It makes no sense to me when a railroad spends a lot of money on crossing signals, then abandoned a subdivision full of stuff they wasted their money in. Still a shame to see those wig wags go.
jslasher1 in Maine pan am keeps stuff like there are 3 B&M defect detector and 2 Guilford one left one is near my home if they change it I am going to take the voice chips or what's used for making the voice
Similar style wig wags were all over the caso. I remember them as a kid between Welland and Niagara Falls on the caso. I did get to see this particular crossing the last few times I went by on the 401
In all the many years of traveling, I have seen only 2 locations with wig-wags.(operational too) 1. Kenton,Ohio on the former EL main. 1983, the former main was still used as a running track for industrial use. 2. Sardinia,Ohio on the former N&W Cincy to Portsmouth line.(now segmented) 1983, Back then the line was still a through route.
Glad to see the wig wags are at least in a museum instead of scrap. First memories of trains between Welland and Niagara Falls where at a similar wig wag crossing on what was then the Niagara branch of the Caso. Amazingly CP still runs a local on this line as well on the former CASO to Port Maitland. Not much of it left now.
Saw one of these wig-wags at the Elgin County Railway Museum (not sure if it was one of the last two sets used before it was abandonded. It had the old-style railway crossing print on it.).
@HunterBHolmes - and I was bugging CN about them for months. I offered to buy them and ship them to my home and set them up in my backyard for my Conrail stuff. AARGH!
+Damonlive783 if I was in that area. I would beg my dad to let me have this piece of history. and I hate how these things are being removed. they are cool.
I almost went up in tears because knowing that this railroad is being abandoned and the last set of wigwags ever in Canada will no longer exist. WHY!?!? They could of just relocated them!!!
bingola45 Well the obviously replaced for a reason. Gates are installed not with the addition of brighter lights and louder bells. Even without gates its still better.
Go tell that to all the business's alone the line that CN refuses to service. CN doesn't want the trackage to exist which is why they bought it in the first place.
@Sylvain603 I wish man but CN did what they do, run it into the ground the abandon it. It would cost alot to get the road back into decent shape. I hope company will use it, who knows what the future will hold
Poor Wig wags but at least they are now in a museum or preserved by private collectors now and not scrapped Girl: the titanic sinking is so sad Me: no it wasn’t Girl: have you felt real sadness Me:
Goodbye Wigwag crossings of Canada, your never be forgotten. It's so sad to see some amazing railroad history go. R.I.P Wigwags. 😔😢☹ Great last video of the Wigwags. I like the song, it fits the video. I wish the Wigwags were not scrapped and put them in a railroad Museum for people to see the earliest railroad crossings of the railways. Thank you Wigwag crossings of Canada for protecting our roads from cars hitting trains and warning people about approaching trains. 👍☺
I'm pretty sure it was Gleeson Line near Chatham, Ontario. The line has been ripped up for a while now. Here's Google Streetview from 2012 with the wig wags already removed: goo.gl/maps/BR5Det2kMam
Those can't be scrapped they are a huge part of our history and ill be damned if the hydro co think taking down those beautiful pieces of railway history screw you hydro you destroyed some valuable history good going
@TheJamesmario last time i was around they were still there. I wish CN would donate the line to a group to run excursions. Theres no revinue customers on the line anymore so no railroad would be interested in it unless they wanted to run into windsor or detroit
They are not to be scrapped, the Chatham Railway museum has had them donated from CN and will have them working in an outdoor display...
I've tried looking for pictures of these wig wags in the Chatham Railway Museum. Are they in the CN baggage car itself or what?
@@LJRailfan-Gamer_07. indeed!
where are they now i've tried looking at the museum on google maps and i don't see them

Classic GP9s leading the final train. Great video, always loved this line.
The music killed the moment entirely.
Hmm…. He can always get rid of it‼️🤷♂️
No It didn’t

R.I.P Wig Wag and RRS Mechanical Bell 19??-2011 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
RIP CASO Subdivision! You will be missed so much!😭😭😭😭😭😭
Spent my whole life hanging around caso tracks watching trains at forks creek and perry station one of the best memories I have !
Im Very Proud That Wig Wags Stills Working
There were similar ones on the west end of the EL too. RIP both the CASO and EL.
That was a good video , I love those Wigwags and the old Caso Sub. Nice song too. 😊👍
Very sad whenever an icon from the Golden Age of the Railways is forever lost. Hope that someone stole these.
jslasher1 yeah
jslasher1 I'm coming with you guys

Nice job Chris. A little bit of history there. The musical piece tied in nicely as well.
Mechanical bell it sounds like the safetan
type three high-pitched sound
This song makes me cry cuz my grampa died 2014 April 5th and he loved trains he made me love trains😭😭😭😭

I have only ever seen one of these crossings in my whole life! It was at Heritage Park in Calgary. Had no idea these were called "Wig Wags" until now!

They apparently were stolen before they could be transported to the museum, so no one knows where they are now and what happened to them.
@@TrainsAreReallyCool most likely scrapped by a crackhead.
The bells I think were made by Bryant zinc co.
They still exist at the Chatman Railway Museum.
I took a drive to the Morris Line and Gleeson Rd crossings on the 23 of December, 2011 - boths sets of Wig Wags are gone...wonder who got them?
You should do a video of the line after the complete abandonment.
Saw one of these wig-wags at the Elgin County Railway Museum (not sure if it was one of the last two sets used before it was abandonded. It had the old-style railway crossing print on it.).
I saw wig wags at the sacermento railroad museum

Poor Wigwags
NNNOOOOOOOOOO that vid made me cry
and btw why are CN and CSX torturing those wig wags!? BNSF cares about historical stuff!!!

Damonlive783 you're mean CN!!!!!!!
+Jason Houle, Ikr! They Just Want More And More Scrap Metal Just To Make More Engines And Signals!
Damonlive783 well that doesn't mean more wig wags
That’s sad! The wig wag even has an LS Brach Co. mechanical bell! RIP Wig wag and LS Brach Co. bell, rest easy.
Glad we went down when we did Chris! Good times buddy
It’s spring in the first clip now it’s winter
If look in practice, it is a very original method signaling! Very sorry if this beauty will disappear!
Nice job Chris!! Good song choice!
1:20 is that a GP20? those maybe gone soon as well!
Do you have any info about the wigwag's disposal?
MrBnsftrain GP9u, CP are the only ones with GP20's and there aren't going anywhere, the GP20's are probably the second most common locomotive on CP
Even though I live in Puerto Rico, I’m pretty sad the CASO sub is abandoned.
There is no buyer that would be interested to the CN's Caso Sub like a short line company exemple Genesee & Wyoming,Rail America,Omnitrax ?
Wheres the train in the first part of that video? Did you trigger them?
I almost went up in tears because knowing that this railroad is being abandoned and the last set of wigwags ever in Canada will no longer exist. WHY!?!? They could of just relocated them!!!

In what way is this type of signal 'unsafe'? What would normally be installed in its stead?
bingola45 Well the obviously replaced for a reason. Gates are installed not with the addition of brighter lights and louder bells. Even without gates its still better.
Jacob Tompke yeah
It's all history now Cris...sad!
Let me guess, a wire or metal bar between the rails?
Are you talking about these specific wig-wags? The ones shown in the video?
Go tell that to all the business's alone the line that CN refuses to service. CN doesn't want the trackage to exist which is why they bought it in the first place.
It's sad that such a good railroad crossing has to be scrapped but it it protected that crossing for many years
Still sad rip wig wag you served us well
How did you activate them
what's the status of the wig-wag's now?
So that's why they call railway lights wigwags.
Damn that sucks. Such an incredible piece of history scrapped, just like all the steam locomotives that ran on this line. :(
By the way is that a WRRS bell? What it it? I want to know its a very nice sounding bell!
These bells are very flat Bryant zinc co. bells
I still love the wigwag crossing signals❤️🛤🚂
Are The Signals Still There?
what happen to those old wig wags?
@jay600katana what's the status on these wig wags?
Are the wig wags still there?
No they aren't being restored. One was stolen and the other was scrapped.
Does anyone know what happened to those wig wag signals?
those crossings are so cool !
sad to see'em go = (
What song is this?

What’s the song called?
Last Train by Arlo Guthrie
I would have wanted it. :( sad to see them go.
How much is a Wig Wag worth?
Why did they abandon the CASO Sub? Just wondering
Sorry for the spam glitch I've had
@JayJr2007 can use 6 volt battery and jumper cables ;)
Poor Wig wags but at least they are now in a museum or preserved by private collectors now and not scrapped

It wigged when it needed to wag.
So sad...
shit, I would steal them. What, are they still there??
Scrapped by CN?!?!?! Another reason for me to hate that railroad!!! Give me UP BNSF or NS any day. They care about historical things.
If you stop music we are be able to listen the bell
Hopefully someone will go to the junkyard and save them
