That line looks like it sees very little use and that's why its still around . That Potter Road signal in Wauwatosa is very similar except metal shrouding around the entire base. Bell is the same and think of all the snow and ice it has seen! Still sees 6 to 8 🚄 daily

@@railrol82 Had a doctor apt in the area today and I was right about the set in West All is WI. Look up 8155 w national Ave and you'll look south where it has a angular flasher for turning traffic. Then set it for 8210 w Burnham St and and that also has a turning traffic flasher but has the non working old bell as well. Note the size of the control shed with a top vent. The paved area ahead next to tracks was the depot site until 1973. Also look across the tracks and you'll see a signal perpendicular to the tracks. This is for a bumpy ballast path that is not on the map so perhaps an easement. Hope this is of interest as this set still sees probably 10 trains daily
Also Griswold made the rotating stop crossings and the wishbone style crossing gates. In Barre,VT there is a RR crossing that has a wishbone crossing gate

RailROL82 yeah man, you'll mostly see them in the outskirts of towns or on low traffic crossings. Especially when you leave the city into the the sticks, some are older with black "crossing" X signs with white writing.
That is on the California Northern Railroad Vallejo Subdivision. It is a shortline owned by the Genesse & Wyoming. This sub begins at the Vallejo Mill on the Napa River It switches with UPRR south of Suisun-Fairfield via their Lombard Sub. It will interchange with the UPRR Martinez Sub.

I’ve seen one set of wigwag crossings in Esterwood, Louisiana But was replaced and upgraded with new crossings with lights and gates years ago but that was the only ones I’ve seen in person and I’ve seen them in action back in the mid to late 1990’s!!!
The bases are old, but the gate arms are modern fiberglass. The original gate arms would have been wood: a curved wooden piece extending out from the two sides of the mounting base, coming together about 10-12 feet out, with then a single wooden piece bolted between the two arms, and extending however much further s needed to block the crossing. The double wooden arms would have stays/braces every few feet to maintain the relative position of the curved wood pieces. There may be a few of these older wooden gates here and there, but they've all pretty much been replaced by the modern fiberglass ones which are 1) lighter, and 2) easier to replace when they're broken. www.rxrsignals.com/102/Gates/ has photos of these older wooden crossing gates.
The base and the look of the lights are dead giveaways to them being Griswold signals. That being on a shortline is probably the only reason they’ve survived this long.

Here in New York City in the subways there are some abandoned stations and in Brooklyn under the L train there railroad tracks there and in Queens right next to the M train railroad tracks right before the last stop of the M train.
If you are ever in Southern California, you should check out the abandoned railway that leads to the old Goat Canyon Trestle. You can start off at the De Anza Spring Resort - Goat Canyon Trestle Trailhead, which is also near some abandoned Metra cars which you can explore. If you're willing to take a good long hike, you can find the old trestle. Along the way is a lot of other abandoned railway equipment, such as a derailed boxcar, and some other coaches. Far past the Goat Canyon Trestle, is an old water tower at the ghost town of Dos Cabezas, and near Coyote Wells is 3 abandoned EMD GP40s

CP rail up in Edmonton Canada has a lot of these old crossings still in service other than they have replaced the lights with LED. The gates on these crossings have been changed recently as the red white reflective tape is not at an angle and those have only been used in the last 4 years
You need to change the railroad crossbucks from White Crossing with black letters. New black crossing with white letters if see dark make white letters glow dark see at night. Good idea. like 4 gate Crossings and other signs& level Crossings
There is a crossing in WA on a shortline named CWW out in the middle of nowhere its by Huntsville and its rusted away it dates back in maybe 1970s or older, It still dings till this day.

A wig wag in Anaheim on an active line was taken down a few months ago! These crossings are going away sadly. I wish I could’ve gotten out there before it was replaced with e bells, led lights, and nothing but a waste of money!
I miss the old Wig-Wag crossings. We used to have a bunch of them in my town on what used to be an old Santa Fe line (that was used by a small rail road company as basically a spur for a few years). But the line was abandoned a couple decades ago and the city pulled up the tracks. It's now the Santa Fe Walking Trail.

Back then they were no crossing gates. Back then it was just a Railroad Crossing Sign .Then later came a wig wag crossing where a bell would just back and fourth and a bell sound would go off and then there were crossing gates. Only one crossing gate for each crossing but cars would go around it so they put two to lock the cars in .

I found this huge but strange railroad crossing on Google maps in Idaho Falls, Idaho on an intersection between Presto St. and N. Holmes Avenue.

The “wishbone” gates don’t flex much when hit and are a liability so they have all been removed years ago
