  • Time for the first service on the S65, What does it cost to service a V12 Mercedes? I was very curious and it actually cost more than I thought.

    A couple inch smaller wheels and a little thicker sidewall tire would make the ride at least 6-7x better imo. And no bent wheels 😊

    • @gottliebdee263
      @gottliebdee263 6 місяців тому

      Sort of, that's only part of the problem. Seems the previous owner went for the 'Euro look', where the tyre is stretched to fit the rim. The wheel simply needs to be wider.
      After getting the right size wheel, (or tyre), then you can look at side wall height.
      Unless wheel width and not diameter was what you were talking about.

      Size does not mater on the 2 & 4 door from my experience and feed back from friends that sell & fix wheels.
      My W221 S65 4 door amg factory wheels bent so many times even trying to avoid pot hols, I went to 3 pice wheels and happened less but still happened. As for the ride only time it sucked was when I didt get them road forced balanced.

    Hi Mike, in the UK the Service A is the basic service ( oil and filter change, fluid levels, brake inspection) The Service B is the same but adds a cabin filter replacement and a brake fluid change ( every 2 years 20,000 miles) So I would question the fact that they charged you additionally for the brake fluid change as it is included in the Service B. You would think their service schedules would be the same the world over?......Coolest S65 I've ever seen, you've done an awesome job.

    If you look at the rear tire with the fender on the driver side at 8:51 and then the passenger side at 8:54, you can clear as day see the bottom of the wheel is sticking out wayyyyy further than the fender. Could just be the angle but still worth checking out because you may still be wearing the inside of the tire on the passenger side.👍🏾

    Bloody hell !!
    I’ve an AUDI and I bought a service plan. I looked around at non dealers and they are cheaper but not by a significant amount. Plus AUDI were doing a 25% off service plans, so I could see straight up what I was paying and I took that. I’m very pleased as I’ve had 2 services over 3 years on the plan and there’s no quibbling or worrying about huge additional costs. I go in, am treated like a king, and I say please just do the service as per plan and they do that. I do get a web based “do you want this”. So what I mean is I get a message and clicking on it, it opens a browser with a guy with camera showing me the wheels, engine, underside from a ramp and then options like pad renewal or brake fluid replacement with the price and buttons to accept or decline. If I accept then I’m taken to payment screen, but equally I can decline and take to local mechanic. So very impressed as when you return you’ve already paid upfront in the plan and you just drive away

    Here a little tip from someone whos worked at a dealership or 2 . If you have to take your car to the dealership , there's always wiggle room on the out the door cost. Normally alot of parts are overpriced sometimes the price is jacked up 4x the amount the dealership spends on the actual part. Hence why the key fob was 2x times the amount and they were willing to sell it at cost to him. So qork with your sevice writter and ask them can they get whatever you're trying to get done for a couple hundred dollars less. You'd be surprised what they can do. Most of the time they discoutn the parts and sometimes they will discount the shop rate and parts. Ive worked at nissan, toyota and audi, and all has been the same. Alao i still get my "employee"/ freinds &family discount when i have to buy parts for my lexus ,scion ,or mt acura . Ive never worked at honda or acura but i ask for that discount and always get it. Just a fyi

      Nordic countries pay 8-11€ (9-12 USD) for a gallon.
      In Finland if you would have bought this AMG S 65 Coupe new it would have cost 660 000€ ($700 000) because every car that costs more than about 180 000€ and above, the tax is the same as the price of the car so the final price for a €180k car is €360k
      And the Netherlands and Norway or Denmark have it even worse.

    The price for the key seems a little rich. In 2011, I bought a used C230 Kompressor Sport Coupe which came with only one key. To buy a new one, I had to take a Friday off work and drive to my nearest dealer which is 300-ish Km (186 miles) south of me. I had to provide proof of ownership and sign documentation authorizing my intent to purchase a new key. This key was programmed in Germany, and took two weeks for delivery at the dealership. Once it arrived, I drove back to pick it up and verify that it worked. They wouldn't ship it to me, for obvious reasons. The key fob itself cost me C$300, plus C$75 for the steel part of the key.

He had several issues within the first 6 months...he eventually got rid of it and purchased a new Lexus L460, always a top-rated automobile...a car he said he should've purchased in the first place. He's had it a couple of years now and no issues whatsoever.

    It’s not just an oil change they do. Also right tools and correct torque specs make a huge difference. A service is 250. Just oil. They do a lot more on a B.

    Damn, that V12 spark plug change is gonna cost big $$ at 50k miles. I just paid for the V6 spark plug change at that was over $500.

    • @jonathanwilkinson242
      @jonathanwilkinson242 6 місяців тому +3

      I mean each spark plug is like 20 bucks a pop. That’s 120 bucks… after taxes and crap that’s like 150 just for the spark plugs. I got my ass beat on my w204 doing them and will definitely pay 350 bucks for someone to take care of it for me. But they also last a stupid long time!! My older s63 twice as complicated!! But you are right 500+ is big bucks for sure. What car do you have?

    The easiest way of telling a C, E, and an S is by the amount of "strips" or "led light lines" in the headlights. C=1, E=2, S=3 lines. Another way of telling is by simply looking at the infotainment system the C even the previous gen never had the wide screen setup that got carried down onto the E from the old S.

    600$ for oil change is a big rip off.
    No other fluids should need topping of since nothing should get used/burned in a sealed container, except for winshield fluid which u can do your self.

    Yeah, that key program is a 10 minute operation. They let your car sit in the bay for an hour. I had an S55 Amg and had a warranty and an extended warranty. Those A and B services are basic things they charge you 175-200 per hour to do.

    Wow weather is nice for Pittsburg down here in Florida we are getting the cloudy grey overcast with mild rain weather. Yuck 🤮
    The new E class does drive nice. Those A and B service are complete rip off it’s just topping off fluids. You are better off financially to just go for a drain and fill with new fluids. Otherwise it’s a $700 oil change.

    Just future reference for a key fob. You don't have to go to Mercedes Dealership and pay that extra $$$ for a fob. Most locksmiths can get and program a key fob for much less. And as for oil changes, I know the AMG is quite a bit more, but I'd use a 3rd party mechanic that deals with Mercedes. Don't use the dealership for that. I pay $150 for a type A service on my 2014 E350 coupe at a local shop that works with BMW, Audi, Mercedes etc. Rather taking to a dealer and paying twice as much.

  • @kettle_of_chris

    Those prices the dealer charged you: are not bad. I drive a much older, far less expensive german car & my oil changes
    cost me around $160 when it's all said & done. That's not at the dealer either: this is me buying my own special oil and filter
    _at Jiffy Lube_ *** Now granted I live in the SF Bay Area and being on the East Coast might actually be a little cheaper than out here because...well hell your 3K miles closer to Germany than we are. KEY FOB - that is actually a good deal in that it's consistent / normal.
    For my car - again it's older than your neighbor's college kids - a key fob reprogrammed at the dealer (the only place to do that) is roughly the same. So all told: what you spent is not bad! Considering cost of oil per qt and how much a V12 needs, the basic parts cost, and the brake fluid service (probably over kill at 5K miles - I would have done it at 10K miles) I was a little surprised that it was as low as it was. *Yacht* *Radio* is just Van Halen in rehab, Cirrus XM doesn't have a lot of GenX working there otherwise their station names would be more accurate. Interesting video - thanks for sharing! -Chris / on my 3rd E46 in 8 years
