Mike - since you have the dash cam video, you can count how many white lines on the road you are passing over a given period and then figure out your speed. The lines are each 10 feet long (it’s a federal guideline, and although they seem much shorter, if you measure them you’ll see that they are 10 feet long) and they are spaced 30 feet apart. So each time that you pass a white line and the space between the next, you’ve travelled 40 feet. Rate x Time = Distance, and thus Distance/Time = Rate. I counted 16 white lines and spaces in 6.5 seconds. That works out to be 640 feet in 6.5 seconds, or roughly 98 feet/second. That translates to roughly 67 mph (66.8 mph). Use that dash cam video as it will get you out of the ticket! If my calculations help get you out of this ticket, I think I’ve earned a new AutoVlog t-shirt!

I lived in NC for 47 years, driving 39 of them. I have a VERY heavy foot and know a LOT about NC's revenue game of writing speeding tickets. That trooper likely used LIDAR (laser) to measure Mike's speed. LIDAR is VERY accurate and can pick a vehicle out with dozen's of other vehicles nearby, if operated correctly. If he didn't use LIDAR, he probably used VASCAR which is a fancy name for a computer that calculates speed based on y distance travelled during x amount of time. With the density of traffic around Mike, I HIGHLY doubt that radar was used. If you listen to the Trooper's conversation, he stated that he obtained Mike's speed by the bridge. That's where they sit with their LIDAR guns. I've seen it hundreds of times in NC. They are ruthless. This means that the government really couldn't make a case for "100 in a 70" and so tries to get the citizen to pay the tax anyway by changing the accusation to "79 in a 70" which is less likely to cause the citizen to get a lawyer involved. The purpose is to collect the tax, not to improve traffic safety. If the government was really serious about stopping "speeding" that is totally safe under appropriate conditions, it would revoke the driver licenses of "speeders" instead of extorting them with literal Highway Robbery.

But sometimes I wonder what's the point of buying a super car in the United States with all those speed limits and the police coming after you all the time. Here in Germany on the German Autobahn it's a little different situation. Having a fast sports car makes more sense. But in America to get some satisfaction, you would have to go on weekends to some track. Of course you know that it is also a certain “status symbol” to show that you have achieved something in life. Let's say a little bit like looking at the time on a watch that costs $50 and on a watch that costs $100,000. They both show you the time in the same way.

Move to Nevada if you want to speed and want a state with great benefits and strong car culture. A group of 3 friends and i were caught by nevada highway patrol all doing 110-140 mph, in a 991.2 Turbo S, Lotus Evora 400, and a Huracan 610-4. We saw him behind us very distantly with lights and sirens on, so we pulled over and waited for him to catch up. When he arrived to us, he literally just wanted to check out all of the cars and was the coolest dude ever! Ive had several pullovers for high speeds and have never once gotten an actual written ticket! F north carolina, keep up the good content!
Dude I live in NC and if you got pulled over there is a good chance you where speeding weather it be 21 over or 19 over..Keep your speed no more than 9 over and and you won't ever get hit by NCHP...I drive a TRX and GT3 RS with 0 tickets...
You got UA-cam money. It's all entertainment for your fans keep them coming Mike.
“I say this every time” 😂 I feel you man
Good luck Mike. I drive 8 over on the highway and that's it tickets are no joke and not worth it.
8 over is a good Rule of Thumb
9 over, you are safe here! Most times!!!!!!
Cruising at 79MPH WHIKE FILMING IS WILD, the thrill of speed kills.
Get yourself a radar detector, brother saved me multiple times
Or perhaps not driving like an idiot?
Better still get a jammer
@josh_bfc_2769 True but im pretty sure it'll only stop laser not radar either way both are worth it
Then he'll get a ticket in Virginia for having a radar detector.
@emiller7040 True, but a lot of the higher end RDs have a feature that stays hidden from RDD (Radar Detector Detectors). Mine does
Dont forget court date tomorrow,, damn cops ,, he just like your car,, lol good luck buddy , i think u be ok..
If I was you I would show that video that you were going with the flow of traffic. That's crazy.
He wasn't going with the flow. He was catching that truck in front of him.
What an experience at the dealership. Can imagine
13:15 Thats exactly how I knew my dad got a ticket in his Z06... Kept seeing letters with his name from tons of different attorneys over a course of a week 🤣
Welcome back to NC! Tell your friend to stay off 440 and 540 with his Lambo! Them people are crazy! When I was driving tractor trailer, I was told Virginia is 11 over for reckless. I found out on 77 highway coming out of the last tunnel heading south. Lol
Nope. It's 20 over in Virginia.
86 is literally the speed people drive on the highways here in mass. I got pulled over going 117 and it was just a very hefty ticket. No court date
The penalties vary by state. Some places you can drive away with a ticket for going 140 mph. Other places you will be physically arrested for driving 30 mph above the posted speed limit. It all just depends on where you are and how serious they take traffic offenses.
Did 99 on I20. The car was so smooth it didn't feel like it
NC State Troopers will give their own mom a ticket. If you get pulled over by one, you're getting a ticket.
Hey Mike, don’t want to be that guy…but winter is on its way. I know we feel the same about it 😂
Don’t ever ask them how fast you were going. Then they are on camera saying how fast they clocked you. Just let them do the talking and don’t validate anything they say.
Your can hire a lawyer to go to court for you. That way you don't have to drive down there Mike.
He could also not speed
Did you not hear him talk about ticket attorneys in the video
@@98wytebird hey, but I wrote my comment before Mike said that
@truckercowboyed2638 mind your own business sheep 🐑
We've mobile cameras here. Vans pop up all over the place. Was out last Monday and have no idea how fast I was going when I passed the van (empty motorway and was momentarily distracted, but know I was definitely over). It's just over a week since and am waiting to see if anything arrives in the post. 3 points & €160 fine. Automatic unless you contest and bring it to court. If you don't pay within 28 days it automatically jumps to €240. Just hope I was within the "margin of error".
It does sound like an angry tiger. Great video.
If you’re pulling away from everyone you’re not going the flow of traffic 😂
You said coupé not coop - sheesh I'm so impressed bud!!!👌🏼🤣
I love the window feature that opens the back one so them can close the front
Mike~ actually my jag XK-R with a Supercharged V8 sounds exactly like an angry Tiger when in Dynamic Sport mode shifting at 6000RPM. Growls, Cracks, pops….angryyyyyyy. Love it.
Sucks that your dashcam didn't get the speed. I use an OBD logger to track my speed, saved my in plenty of pull overs in North and South Carolina
I think he said he just wrote you “for the speeding” or so it sounded like he was giving you a break
And be glad it aint VA even if the speed limit is 70 anything over 82 is automatically reckless
Gotta say I’ve always thought the perfect car 4 u would be the Volvo V60 Polestar Engineered. Very unique a flying machine and generally an all around awesome machine!✌🏻
I'm a 52 yod black man and I've done 170 mph on a 2011 Ninja zx14. Just south of Atlanta. I've gone 145 mph at least 5 time in one day driving a rented 2019 392 Charger. Just south of Atlanta. I used to hit 150 mph every Sunday on I-20 in Atlanta. I've never been pulled over for doing any of this. If you only speed on level straight roads away from bridges. You want get pulled over.
Best portable tire filler is a Mikita that uses the 18v drill batteries. Big truck tires fast and no problem..
I use that same cordless tire inflator on my 2014 C350, it is a great tool!
What’s the brand of the tire inflator? I need one of those to have for an upcoming long roadtrip.
Of course you come to my city and I’m just now seeing this video!
I bet youre insurance loves you lol
Insane AMG !! ❤❤
Welcome to North Carolina
I bought Pirelli tires and they held up fantastic. Love the car!
AMG is short for All Money Gone! Usually on parts, servicing, detailing and of course speeding tickets! But if I could have had a choice as to the car to get a speeding ticket in then the S65 would definitely be in the top five of the list.
Sometimes those radars clock the wrong car. I have a white Merc and there was another white Merc that sped past me going down a main thoroughfare that almost hit me. Cops followed me into a grocery store parking lot, stopped me and said I was going 70 in a 30 😂. I challenged it in court and won.
Sucks ya got a ticket but it sure does make great entertainment for us all. Hope everything works out dude!!
Nothing will beat the speed of the Milwaukee m18 inflator
Bit that small thing sure packs a punch
The Milwaukee M12 Compact Inflator works great for me.
It's sick that you've got the Mercedes with the Pagani Huayra engine! Sounds amazing!
I live in North Carolina and you got to watch out for them state troopers I got pulled over by a state trooper one time and the trooper said I was doing 58 in a 45 but I was actually doing 50 but I got it knock down to improper equipment
Well there is a thing called cruise control Mike just so u know lol love ya brother
@@aris1956Police leave you alone if you set the cruise at 5 over the posted limit and stay in the right lane. May not sound like "fun", but it keeps attention off of you. Super car ownership in the US these days is basically the automotive equivalent of owning a sport bike/crotch rocket. Way too much power for the street, but people want them for the attention and conspicuous consumption element. Aside from a track day, they are just another car when out on public roads.
Cruise control is more dangerous than speeding. Not a good idea, keep you less aware of the changes needed based on what's happening.
@@RysterARCEE You hardly need a supercar to go way over the speed limit in most areas of the U.S.
Yeah I was told you don't mess with Definitely South or Noth Carolina. Your man lives there & he knows better, but you live & learn from living fearless while driving. Also overpasses are notorious for speed areas.
:22 Autovlog look into Mid City Engineering they can do a plug and play integrated radar detector for Mercedes… they are based out of Chicago! Also can do plug and play remote start!
Oh you got pulled in Graham/Burlington area. State troopers love hiding off the ramp or sitting on the bridge clocking people. That sucks.
Yeah right. I don’t think you was going 86. That cop just wanted to make sure he made his quota
awwww dude you were recording when you passed under the Winston Salem / Mt Airy sign on I74 Lived in Winston most of my life but family home in Mt Airy
Those wheels on the amg are just so sick I love them
Wifey is right again. Don't speed honey! Lol
65MPH freeway speed limits should be changed. That’s some 1991 type limit. Bump it to 70 or even 75. Of course it’s an easy way to generate revenue.
AutoVlog, don’t you use Radar Detectors?
May I ask how much you’re paying for insurance...?
I’ve seen this car wrapped in a satin color and wow the body lines and size of it truly stand out…maybe consider it to spice up the channel. I would suggest changing the look of the car multiple times to gain interest and keep things fresh. Maybe powder coat the wheels gloss black or bronze with different wraps. Maybe reach out to a local wrap place and mention you will sponsor them free advertising if they give you a better price on wrapping. And you can do multiple colors that way. Just some thoughts. Love the V12 btw
Uniden 3 or 6 radar detector haven't had a ticket in 6 years, fast cars need love 2
Lived in in Raleigh for over a year and don't think I ever saw one single trooper. In FL you see 5 every time on highway.
Stop driving so fast bro. Your family loves you.
Many years ago I was driving up the Smokey Mountain Expressway, returning from a Dragon run. I was in my arrest me red 1980 Porsche 911. I was driving down a long hill cruising along at 95 MPH (in a 60) about half way down the hill I was being passed by a Mini van doing over 100. I glanced over long enough to see some lady driving, then noticed a kid diving over the seats in the back, not even a seat belt on, never mind a car seat or booster seat. Suddenly my V-1 went nuts!! Instant on radar!! I see a cop coming down an get-em-on ramp. I am thinking, thank god!! That lady in the mini van is insane, she needs a reality check. Wrong! The cop was coming after me. Laughed at my "fuzz buster" not saving me. Gave me a 96 in a 60 mandatory court date.
I called the court the day of the hearing, told them I was not in NC, we need to work something out. All charges dropped, just pay the fine + court fees.
Its not about safety...
What you need is an 812 in arrest me red straight piped.
Your white car was amazing.
I live in NC and I say the same about VA...they hide behind bushes, bottom of hills, little gravel roads, they love writing tickets!
Get a radar detector coming through nc you need it
Oh wow..... definitely keep us updated.
Same here in Massachusetts but here you get hit for speeding and wreck less both so it aint a court date you will accally be arrested and jailed until you see a judge
They got me twice leaving:VA onmy way to Florida and leaving SC on my way back!
Based on the flow of traffic its highly doubtful you were doing 86. Most traffic flows in NC around 70-75 on the highway.
Those letters always busted me with my parents when I got a ticket. 😂
Can not believe he acts like he does not deserve these tickets every time. Keeps believing you are being targeted Mike. 😂
He literally showed his Waze app going 87 in a 70 and then cries when getting pulled over at 86.
hahahaha good catch @@SynergyCamaro
@@SynergyCamaro87 in a 70 is pretty weak depending where u live… in Alabama 8/10 u aren’t getting a ticket for that
It's the same look my 5 year old has on his face when he knows he's trying to pull one over on me. 🤣
He cries about everything; he thinks he is right about everything!
Just gotta stop speeding bro not that hard
Never!!😈
Because the cop did not put wreckless driving on the ticket means he cut you some slack
But can't the judge impose it anyway as they can see that he was going 86 in a 65 zone?
@@brickisland6353 yes technically an a-hole judge could do that but if he hires a lawyer from that county then the lawyer can get the charge reduced to an "equipment violation" which will not put points on his license and won't require him to attend driving school
White cop cuts some slack for fellow white driver 🥴🥴🥴
I gotta say Mike after everything has been said and done you should never of sold your Fabulous Ferrari. I know you've had some totally wicked cars and trucks since but having that beautiful Ferrari put you automatically in a league of automobiles in a much higher class of normal human. And that counts for everything!!!
That’s how it works I just got 86 in a 55 going through Richmond VA
I wouldn’t mind never coming back to NC. I’d plan on missing that court date.
What a beautiful automobile, a beast.
OMG bruhhh that‘s really bad - why don‘t you get yourself a uniden or valentine radar detector 😢 sucks I‘m speechless
