@@IceTTom No it doesn't, he started with a UA-cam channel. There are people who come to the USA with nothing and build businesses, it all depends on how much you're willing to sacrifice for your dream. Rent too expensive? Are you willing to live in a van? Can't get a van? Are you willing to be homeless for your dream? Because I can tell you right now there are people who do it, without massive monthly bills it's amazing what a person can accomplish, you find a way, you use gyms for showering, fast food stores are your bathrooms, rent a locker somewhere to store stuff, study at the library for your new career, cut off all toxic, useless friends who aren't supportive, work from morning to night, you CAN do it, you just don't take your dream seriously enough, you completely misjudge the lengths at which some people are willing to go to get where they want to be. You are just lazy and that's okay, you can change that, just admit it and be real with yourself and make a change today.
@@christopher-gardner no he needed a lot of money to start up the site, before the buy-out. It takes considerable resources to run that kind of live auction site, and it wouldn't have been profitable for years. Luckily he got bought out before it tanked him.
I met Doug, *cough*, i fan girl super excitedly saw him and him in his ford gt and pulled over, yelled "Doug!" as if I knew him, and was super excited to see him, bc ive been watching since the early 2013/14 years. Doug was super nice, exactly how he is on UA-cam, bot sure if I was expecting any different, but for a happenstance impromptu encounter, a super nice guy! He asked me about my random FJ i was in, and just over all we had a short but nice conversation. Doug, thanks for being so cool and continuing to be passionate about your work! Cheers SD neighbor!
I'm 23, I understand his POV. I have 1 Car - 1 Motorcycle. That's all I need & I have no idea how my life would be without them. Perfectly balanced as all vehicle ownership should be!
Don't always agree with Doug's taste in cars, but he offers a gem of advice here. "Get rid of cars that you wouldn't maintain/fix enthusiastically". I am going to use this to widdle down my fleet.
I have followed Doug for almost 10 years, Doug bought and sold his cars. I understand why people get "bothered" but he has always been a fan of selling and buying cars.
I too have a fleet of 6 cars, a motorhome, two tractors, two dirt bikes and something always needs maintenance or repairs. I get that it can be too much to look after any more than that. People with 10+ cars, you just know the cars are slowly rotting from lack of use or attention.
I'm convinced the only person who can get away with having 10+ cars is Leno because of him having employees to take care of the cars. Otherwise guys like Hoovie are just collecting cars to rot because of nostalgia and a hoarding mental illness
Agree, I have sold off a few vehicles just because you simply don’t have time to use them all, plus every week or so a registration is due it seems. It all adds up. Selling my boat felt the best, no more monthly berthing fees 🎉
I’m up to 11 cars. Doug actually did a video of one of them. Congrats on all the amazing success. I sold off a few fun cars when my kids were young so that I could get a nice, safe, family SUV. Slowly but surely I acquired additional cars that are collectible and not depreciating assets. But on a beautiful day, it’s hard to drive more than one. I will likely follow your lead and get down to 5 or 6. Maybe I can upgrade the quality if I downgrade the quantity.
i wish i could walk around in gym shorts and play video games all day. engineering is great! (i'm sleep deprived and going paycheck to paycheck and the liquor cabinet is the only thing keeping me going)

Its amazing how age shapes one's desires. There's no way I'd be happy today with my "money-no-object dream garage" from when I was 22.5 (now that I'm 55). And if 22 year old me were to see my current "money-no-object dream garage" they would be completely confused.
I think a lot of the hate comes from 60% of his content being about his own cars or Cars & Bids. Us OGs remember when his content was fun and entertaining. Different times I guess.
I personally wouldn't have picked the Sequoia but I completely understand why he made the decisions he has. I wouldn't be sharing cars with my wife though lol.
The only grounds one can raise reasonably is the amount of gas used. Ex: our two cars are a '21 RAV 4 XSE Hybrid (we have had one hybrid in the garage since 2006) and my '14 Manual Corvette. I can rationalize a sense of environmental "balance" (not saying I'm right but it gets me through the day) and a reasonably low amount of gas used (retired teacher). Even the C7 gets close to 30 on a highway cruise).
I turned 30 last year, and for the first time in my car buying life I only own one car. I too am working on simplifying my life, and I can confirm it feels pretty good.
The amount of things you can do with the money spent on the Carrera GT is definitely a tempting sell that i understand. Trips, family stuff, investment, other hobbies. Plus you can buy another VERY good car and still have money left over. That's a tought one for sure.
Smart move, Doug. You are the only person I follow that can make money driving fantastic vehicles. I have lost so much money to vehicle ownership, I am now looking forward to retiring to Pattaya and never owner another vehicle. There are better things to spend your money on in Thailand as a single retired guy.
Doug has always been upfront about how he doesn't like to hold on to cars for too long, and provided very good reasons as to why. How could anyone be mad at him for that?
I don't get all this "I don't drive it to keep its value up" So I appreciate you for actually moving your GT around! Happening a lot in the motorcycling community too. For me personally, a car that cannot be driven has no worth in it. It was designed solely for this purpose, which it won't fulfill as a "collectors" item. The driving experience isn't going to change much over the lifespan of a car, so drive it if you want to. Of course costs will rise as parts wear, but if that's a problem for you, you can't afford it anyways.
Yeah, you see bikes for sale with super low miles and the owner thinks it's still worth a ton, but it's still for sale many months later. You can buy something newer or better, who cares if it has more miles as long as it's nice (like wasn't stored outside).
I half agree - really beautiful cars are also a work of art - some collectors / owners keep them in their living room or in case of the 8C the owner screwed it to the wall as art. It's also different if you have tens of cars .
Doug is missing the thread. You are trying to argue with 17 year olds? No one hates you and no explanation is needed. The point is maybe some people think you are evolving from your basic concept of quirky cars to new cars and exotics. You can make a video explaining your shift in concept instead of bashing your base. Most don’t care and still follow you myself included who’s been a devoted follower. You are doing nothing wrong no explanation is needed.
True. He does, however, open himself up to this by talking year in and year out about his personal choices in buying and selling cars. It shouldn't be a problem, but such is the comment section.
He didn't argue with or bash anyone. He simply stated that most of the people hating were young and stupid, which is just a fact, young people are stupid.
Doug, we met briefly I knew who you were and you didn’t know I. Appreciate the banter about all cars. You owe no one an excuse for selling buying or trading your things. YOU ARE THE MAN.
I enjoy hearing your reasons for owning what you own and selling what you sold. It all makes perfect sense. Keep doing what's best for you and your family!
Love the Garage Update videos Doug. Congratulations on all your recent sales/acquisitions, and it makes TOTAL sense given the experiences you've had, and moving into the next phase of 'responsible' adulthood. ha! Keep em coming!
One car (actually the same as my last car) and 6000 miles in six months. I keep looking at what I could save by adding something like a BMW i3 but when you factor in maintenance and depreciation it would probably be nothing.
you have changed a lot since i first started watching, used to be one of my favorite to now when i dont enjoy watching your videos but not because of what cars your own or sell
The most difficult question for me to answer personally: What is your dream car? Good for you Doug. You do you, and keep doing you do you. Being in the position to do so, well done. I think with all the cars you have driven and are still to drive, the want vs need vs keep vs sell vs what next is even more difficult. Big ups for thinking the way you do, and being the Doug is the type of guy who drives his cars. May your dreams continue and be fulfilled.
Bro every video, doug talks about all the hate comments. But i have never seen a hate comment on his videos before. All i see are the "doug is the type of guy to..." comments
I saw someone saying he should have kept the Defender for his Children to inherit. My immediate thought was that they would be probably trade it for a Honda Sports Bike or whatever they get into.
Idk either, but I assume the team at Cars & Bids has been deleting or hiding any "negative" comments on the YT channels. Pretty shady and odd that they / Doug would even care given the success they have had.
I get it, there is something special about getting into an older vehicle before electronics took over and just enjoying it. Even if it's nothing that special, maybe even more so since you don't worry about it. I have a 2023 luxury cross over, 2005 HD truck, and a 2003 Land Rover Discovery. I grab the Discovery keys any time I am just out doing daily things because it's just so unique and fun to drive.
I think what people don't realise is that you can fall in and out of love with cars for the weirdest reasons. I bought one of my childhood dream cars in my Golf GTI but I know that it's never 'the end'. I am fully aware that at one point I'm selling this car. For what, that remains the question, but even if you love something, it might have to go at one point. Doug's had the CGT for a while now and the memories of owning it will remain forever, even if he does sell it. The fact that people on the internet gatekeep what their favorite UA-camrs buy and sell is crazy to me.
Here we go again with a video of Doug justifying to himself comments why he buys or sells cars. Dude, just buy and keep and sell whatever you want. You dont need to justify it to anyone lol.
Been a longtime subscriber and I completely understand. As you grow older, needs and priorities change and if you want to have a family, you can't take them around in old cars that likely aren't safe for modern standards. For the money, it's a simple fleet with the 3 dream cars you take out on a fun day that'll likely go up in value, the summer beach car, the modern daily that's also super practical, and the modern hauler that can still off-road a little.
Doug, I never comment on videos but I will today…if I could give you 1,000 thumbs up for making this video, I would. Thank you for your channel and bringing happiness to my life by sharing your car experiences, which are YOURS and yours alone. I’m glad you are buying and selling what makes YOU happy. Keep making videos, or don’t, and have a great day.
It's one thing for people who don't have money to plan out how they're going to spend money. It's another thing when you actually get money. Like, woah, all that wasn't in the brochure. Which is why our cars, my 2024 BMW 5 sedan, and my wife's 2024 BMW X5 SUV, both PHEVs, are well more than enough.
As a teenager I always wanted a Prerunner. I got a built one at 23 and finally sold it at 30. The upkeep of a long travel truck where nothing is stock and you cant really drive every day was a ton. I enjoy my stock trucks and my C7. Teenager me would’ve never understood
2016 Challenger Hellcat, 2021 Lincoln Aviator BL PHEV, 1977 F150 Flareside, 2016 Grand Cherokee. Looking for one more little fun car and need more garage space.
I'm 24 and I think your newest content here and on the 'Cars And Bids' channel is the funniest most real Doug we've ever gotten. I watch for your personality, not for your cars. Your only car could be a bZ4X and I'd still watch.... probably.
I could understand people being upset if he sold the Carrera GT or the Ford GT but a used land cruiser and and old defender and A class?. People usually accuse UA-camrs of “changing” if the buy a car like a Carrera Gt but not selling cars. I don’t understand buying the Sequoia for the few times that family comes into town, seems like it would be easier and cheaper just to rent a large SUV for those occasions.
I think because for the reasons he listed for the Sequoia, specifically off-roader and sits 6+, rental car companies don’t usually have such in stock. I have yet to see a Tahoe Z71, Expedition Timberline or even a Sequoia TRD-Off-road or Pro in rental car parking lots
My only beef, if one should even call it that, was that he loudly declared he was going to keep his New Defender for years, only to yeet it after a matter of months.
@@Gordanovich02 To be fair, I would also yeet a Landrover within a couple of months. I love the way they look but I definitely wouldn’t want to own one.
Doug said the 2020 Defender didn't have the driver assist tech for stop start driving in slow bumper to bumper traffic. That and the upright slope of the front windshield was inclined to get cracked when hit by loose stones.
Next to go is the MB G-Wagon, the 4Runner covers that part Then, the Porsche, he is clearly enjoying his last days with it, but the Countach is also a Sports car as well as the GT
Keep in mind that Doug is the type of guy who makes excuses to people he's probably never seen in his life, and never will, why he bought or sold something...absurd
I don’t understand why people hate when we hardly even see the cars. Doug’s channel isn’t even about his cars. We don’t even see the cars unless he buys them. 1 video showing the car and never again. So why does it matter? If it was someone like Shmee it makes more sense. Why hate on Doug when he hardly shows the cars?

That was mee too in my 20s. Had 3 cars truck, bmw and sportbike then dreamed about a 4-6 car garage and collecting more and more. Reality is that car break down and need attention even if it means changing dead batteries, tires, registrations tune ups etc. Im 34 years old and im down to a large sub and a 4 door sportscar that cover all my bases for usability. Sometimes i look at really cool cars and think i can afford it but the extra headache and time away from family isnt worth it to me.
Nice Doug! My dream garage would be the new Lotus Emira (manual). Ferrari f355 (manual) 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor (seems like an affordable trophy truck) BMW M2 (manual). Lexus LX 460, Porsche Cayman GTS (manual) and Lexus LX 460 for road trips 😊
At the end of the day, you’re a human. Things change in your life. Youre fortunate to have such an amazing car collection. I personally think it’s silly to get upset, so with that, cheers to you for owning cars that you enjoy.
He took the shmee route. Buy car. Drive and experience car. Sell car on his site which prob brings a small premium since he's Doug, make his money back, rinse and repeat
This is the most interesting video I have ever watched from Doug. I have never had some many emotions even before reaching 10 mins: Mild annoyance at the haters, curiosity at why car enthusiast love wagons so much (probably for the same reasons I love hatchbacks), wonder and inspiration listening Doug's experience with his Ford GT while seeing myself buying a red one... and utter disbelief after realizing he lets his dog in the car and scratch it... definitely great content ✌
Doug, I’m more interested in seeing your journey through owning many different cars than having you forever be “the Land Rover Defender guy”. Love the channel.
The age comparison is right on point. In my early 20's I owned four motorcycles, a street bike, C90 Honda scooter and two enduro's. I thought it was cool to have them all and rode each every other day. In the early 90's thru the mid 2010's had a car and a scooter and up two a year ago a miata and a Honda bobber. Now I just have the bike, No trying to decide which one I am going to use. In a few more years when I completely retire I will own a Urus even though I would rather have a hurican. The younger me would be taking the sports car but the older me now is more practical.
He shared details about why on Graham Stephans podcast recently. Apparently those videos weren’t able to achieve the same revenues as the main channel so they scrapped it.
You're pretty much the only automotive channel I watch anymore, mostly because you're very in-tune. I hope these comments don't start to get into your head and cause you to question things about yourself because people that are actually paying attention will see that you're not only in tune with these privileges you have, but you're also very self aware. The automotive side of UA-cam has become quite toxic over the past couple years, with viewers encouraging people to maximize and live a life of excess. The viewers also have an expectation that the content creator share the exact same views as them along with a myriad of other unhealthy expectations. Throughout all of this, I feel your channel as been one of few to maintain its purity. You're right to be frustrated when your detractors are living in fiction land. The best is yet to come
I had 3 cars at one point (single, no kids) and even that was sometimes stressful. After my fun car was totaled a few years back (rear ended at a stop light by a drunk driver) I looked for a long time to replace it, then just kind of forgot about it. Two feels good; a daily and an off-roader. After seeing that my insurance is going up 31% for no reason, I'm thankful to have "only" two. Obviously it's different for youtubers because we all know they have unlimited time and money,. 😏
An American, German and Italian supercar spread is a pretty great line up. I’ve got a German VW t25, Australian WB one tonner, and Japanese 88 Corolla Seca liftback, so pretty much the same thing… 😅
How could anyone be angry you sold *those three particular* cars? I mean, they are interesting and valuable vehicles for sure. But I can't imagine having any deep affection for them. "Oh no! Not the Land Cruiser!" Now if he sells the GT, that's another story.
hi doug I bought a porsche cayenne diesel new in 2011. It's done 70k miles and is brilliant, if I have to sell all the cars that would be the one I would keep, in addition to this I have another 2 porsches 2 ferraris and the next amazing car is the i8 roadster in which I've done more miles than the rest of the toys together and other things totaling 10 cars yes its alot of admin and servicing but as long as I can afford them I'll keep all the toys..love the videos..ps shmee150 now that's a fun garage!
The difference with Doug is he buys cars for himself. Every other UA-camr only buy for content purposes, to earn as much money as possible from UA-cam revenue then sell the car.
Others may disagree, but Doug is right. It is a financially prudent decision to sell the Carrera GT. Think opportunity cost. With the sale of the car, he can realize his net worth from $50 million to $51.5 million. With the proceeds from the sale, he's 2/3 of the way towards buying another iconic supercar, like a $2 million dollar Carrera GT.
Love to see someone actualy USING their damn cars. They should have scratches and dings and there's no reason to have a fleet of cars that don't get enjoyed, loved seeing pics of both the GTs and the Countach on dirt. That is what being a car enthusiast is all about. Keep doing you Doug :)
Probably Doug is the only youtuber who, despite being able to take the car he wants, thinks before taking it, congratulations on the choices made, first of all comes the family! Best regards from Switzerland 😎
I'm 21 with 7 cars. The current fleet consists of: - 2005 Volvo S60R 6 Speed Manual - 2003 Volkswagen Passat W8 6 Speed Manual - 2006 Brabus Forfour in Jack Black - 2003 Skoda Fabia VRS Oettinger Tuned - 1994 BMW 540iA - 2006 Brabus Forfour in Pure Silver - 2005 Smart Forfour (parts car) I can confirm, it costs ALOT to own these.
Honestly, I don’t see how anyone can hate. You really do have a concise (relative to how major of an enthusiast you are) diverse and fun collection of machines. I get the having too many things to take care of is a lot. This isn’t like going to your maze bank garage in gta and just grabbing a car when you feel like it. You’ve got all the not sexy stuff to deal with people don’t think of. As I move up in life I’d say a 4-5 car solution is perfect to me. Some sort of S550 Mustang (soon to be a Mach 1, maybe a GT500 if I can afford it in the future) for just daily GT, backroad all around duty, a people mover American boat (Lincoln Town Car on the Lowend and Dodge Magnum SRT8 on the high end), a Froader that’s just practical and functional, a light weight manual sports car (Miata or 86 on the low end and boxter on the high end) and maybe, if I can ever afford a fifth slot, a classic Muscle car, either a C2 Vette or a Mustang. That’s both a semi realistic and money no object garage. Maturing is keeping it simple
Really great advice shared in this video. I’m close to Doug’s age and can totally relate. I’ve held onto my 911 despite having kids. I used to freak out about it getting dirty or scratched. Now, I don’t care as much. I just drive, maintain and enjoy it. I don’t need anything more.
Feeling more free by reducing hassle is something i can so understand, I'm 26 and have 5 cars from which 1 works, and it'd just be so much nicer if i'd have 4 cars, from which 1 worked. If your channel is half (or more) the age of your detractors, you need not listen nor care about them a single lick.
It's easy for people with money to simply acquire things such as nice cars. Like Doug says though, it's another thing to maintain them. That becomes a job in itself These cars routinely have $50K, even $100K in maintenance costs every couple of years and it's a headache even if you have the money. Don't blame Doug at all for trying to simplify.
One has to have some toys to enjoy for all our troubles Doug. I remember having a yacht and thinking I'd never get a second one but then I'd never enjoy the Indian Ocean and the Pacific as I was enjoying the Atlantic with my original one. Its a hell of a cost but its amazing to have two moving homes away from home.
Doug is simply using his position in life to experience it to the fullest. He knows what he's attached too and what he can give up, and I think a lot of people don't understand that. These people are probably mad because they'll never be able to own ONE of these cars, much less nine.
Another decade for Stradman to have this realization that less is more? Congrats to Doug for assembling an amazing 6 car garage that does everything he and his family want from transportation and entertainment.
Congratulations on everything you do Doug! Coming from someone who owns 7 cars, 6 of them being fun cars, I agree that any more it then becomes more of a business and less a pleasure. All my cars get driven quite a bit and so must be maintained regularly. Fun fact, all my cars I have owned since new and range from 30 years old to 3 years for the most recent.
Nice to hear how happy you are still with the Porsche and the Lambo. I'm an old fart now, so there's a lot of "kids these days...", but I have to say I completely get it what you're saying about the haters.

He has a pretty good choice though. Used to own a Viper and 360, both amazing cars with amazing engines and looks

Don’t listen to the Hate Doug. You made a great choice!
@@TheWalterHWhiteHe literally started his channel filming his Ferrari 360 and then his Viper. You, my friend, came later.
Who is the "Hate Doug"?
Right on, I’m down to 4 but mainly use my truck and 911, so I’m working on getting rid of the other two👍
I seemed to have went car wild at 30 haha. But now at 34 I'm trying to slim it down.
@@MrGmilton I would like two to have a backup. I need a better daily driver.
The amount of things you can do with the money spent on the Carrera GT is definitely a tempting sell that i understand. Trips, family stuff, investment, other hobbies. Plus you can buy another VERY good car and still have money left over. That's a tought one for sure.
As long as it keeps appreciating it is an investment. By the sound of it I doubt if Doug's GT40 has cost him a cent.
I don't get all this "I don't drive it to keep its value up"
So I appreciate you for actually moving your GT around!
My garage update: still 0 cars.
One car (actually the same as my last car) and 6000 miles in six months. I keep looking at what I could save by adding something like a BMW i3 but when you factor in maintenance and depreciation it would probably be nothing.
My garage update: still 0 garages 😂
0 garages, 1 car lol
We are on the same wavelength lol
you have changed a lot since i first started watching, used to be one of my favorite to now when i dont enjoy watching your videos but not because of what cars your own or sell
Great job Doug enjoy life to the fullest! Blessed love!
Reddit is filled with them. But are you really shocked?
Idk either, but I assume the team at Cars & Bids has been deleting or hiding any "negative" comments on the YT channels. Pretty shady and odd that they / Doug would even care given the success they have had.
4:15 min - Doug, hearing you are a business owner with 40 employees, I'm impressed that you're still upbeat.
Keep being you Doug. ✊🏾
This. I have a 1999 Nissan Maxima for this reason. It's so basic that it's more enjoyable.
Thanks for the update. We can sleep well tonight

I'm 24 and I think your newest content here and on the 'Cars And Bids' channel is the funniest most real Doug we've ever gotten. I watch for your personality, not for your cars. Your only car could be a bZ4X and I'd still watch.... probably.
LOL!

Next to go is the MB G-Wagon, the 4Runner covers that part
Then, the Porsche, he is clearly enjoying his last days with it, but the Countach is also a Sports car as well as the GT

So why does it matter? If it was someone like Shmee it makes more sense. Why hate on Doug when he hardly shows the cars?
At one point I had 5 cars none collector cars
#1 my my car
#2 my wife's car
# 3 daughter #1 car
#4 daughter #2 car
#5 my late brother in laws Taurus

That was mee too in my 20s. Had 3 cars truck, bmw and sportbike then dreamed about a 4-6 car garage and collecting more and more. Sometimes i look at really cool cars and think i can afford it but the extra headache and time away from family isnt worth it to me.

He took the shmee route. Buy car. Drive and experience car. Sell car on his site which prob brings a small premium since he's Doug, make his money back, rinse and repeat
I do hope he still gets an Audi A2 when they become available in the USA. Instead of a race he could do a fuel economy challenge.

I think doug is related to E.T. woth that 4 finger wave. Lol
Doug, I’m more interested in seeing your journey through owning many different cars than having you forever be “the Land Rover Defender guy”. Love the channel.
Bunker sound insulation when? The bloody echo is unbearable
Doug is the kind of guy to start a new channel (more Doug DeMuro) to share updates on his life and never use it
That’s because that channel became the cars and bids channel.
The best is yet to come
Hi doug!
Doug's the type of guy to make a point about his family wagon by smoking a Ferrari F40 with it
I like Doug‘s minimalistic approach.
11 cars here! I´m 37 years old and get the point. But No. 12 is waiting! I´m addicted and not willing to stop.😅
Doug, 7 is the number of completion. You need to add another one to complete the collection 😊
Doug is the type of guy to make his life complicated and later to simplify it, to just make himself feel better and happier!) 🤣🤣🤣
As always very smart and sincere advise.... thanks... I think the same now at my 47
Probably Doug is the only youtuber who, despite being able to take the car he wants, thinks before taking it, congratulations on the choices made, first of all comes the family! Best regards from Switzerland 😎
I'm 21 with 7 cars. The current fleet consists of:
- 2005 Volvo S60R 6 Speed Manual
- 2003 Volkswagen Passat W8 6 Speed Manual
- 2006 Brabus Forfour in Jack Black
- 2003 Skoda Fabia VRS Oettinger Tuned
- 1994 BMW 540iA
- 2006 Brabus Forfour in Pure Silver
- 2005 Smart Forfour (parts car)
I can confirm, it costs ALOT to own these.
The cuts to the hands is brilliant
3:44 11am doug? even that is out of touch 😂 i wake up at 2:30-3:00 pm 😂😂😂
