Absolutely a fine piece of cinema!! I learned a lot of positive things from this movie that have helped me all of my life!! I was a pup then, now I'm 60!!
There should be a " where are they now" on Bryan Odell, Tamu, Tracy Reed, etc. They are all good actors and actresses from this time period however, you hear nothing about them!🤔🤷🏽♂️, maybe many of them are living quiet lives or have passed on!🤔
Dilla Time brought me here. So dope that the slightly off beat claps in this scene inspired J Dilla's drum programming, which would go on to revolutionize music.
That's a great story. The author found a really rare Swiss interview with Dilla and heard the track on record and thought what's the deal. Then he watched the movie and saw how the beat was off. Good job running that down.
Just watched this movie again and thinking to myself if someone ever built a time machine.....I would go right back to this period, mid to late 70s. The music, the cars, movies, TV shows all were great.....just the whole vibe!!!!!
Those were carefree years for me in South Central Los Angeles. I'm 65 now and wonder, where times went?? I wish we could, "Do it again, do it again, do it again, do it, do it do it, do it,,,"
Damn, the Robot, I spent hours practicing the Robot and still butchered it but just kept on dancing. It was as if everyone was doing the "Humpty Dance"

I loved the speech that Sidney gave the kids about common courtesy and respect. We need more of that today, y'all, strong black man teaching the youth how it's done.
Strong Black Independent Women don't want no Black Man saying anything to their Kids And the Public Schools don't want them there. Thank You Black Women for showing the World how to disrespect your own Men. The only race of Women that day,: I don't need a Man but willingly take his seed, bore a baby and put him on Child Support. Amazing how the Black Women have changed.
We've been eradicated from the picture, the Man has empowered our sister; who can't seem to see, we are both getting played. "Say you love the baby, but you crucify the man" sang Jim Croce, We've got to stay in the picture brothers, sacrifice we must, really no matter the price (to our ego/pride). I thought about this scene had to watch it 😄 as a kid I LUVED going to the movies to see Bill & Sidney movies I.e. Uptown Saturday Night, Let's do it Again 💗
@John Rodriguez I know that the last movie doesn’t have anything to do with the first 2. They don’t even use the same character names. But historically, the set is listed as a TRILOGY. I know what a sequel is but I'm not the one listing the movies as sequels. In all actually, neither one of the movies had nothing to do with other. Calvin Lockhart, Bill Cosby & Sidney Poitier all used different character names in the 1st two movies. I research my information even when people tell me otherwise. So in this case, no one told me anything.
this song and the whole Car Wash soundtrack are what converted me into a full-tilt soul music lover...ended up amassing thousands of vinyl lps (without any regrets)...
Love how Sister Big Bone was doing the Bump at the end right before that slow fade to cast and crew credits.(However, I wished they hadn't faded out early so we could've seen the rest of the dance footage! But it is what it is lol!)
You can already hear it at 0:17 - It's amazing how an unintended "happy accident" just happened to catch the ear of the right man and would end up revolutionizing the way a generation would interpret rhythm. Beautiful stuff.
This makes me grin from ear to ear everytime - these were my teen years and this is how we got down. So much fun. Okay, truth is, I still get down like this and it's still so much fun! Delicioius!
Uptown Saturday Night, Let's Do It Again and Piece of the Action; Now that's an awesome comedic trilogy!!!! A must-see.... the scores are just as awesome!
Thank you for that. That movie ....the classroom scenes still resonate today. Especially when Sidney Poitier did his speech just before that dude talked about "timmy".
I like James Earl Jones's dance. [Kinda like what he did n "Claudine" when "Makings of you" starting playing.] :) Cute... One of my fav movies also. With a nice ending. Thanks...
Loved the movie for all times then/now. The mesh of the young/mature. The so called poverty pimps, the hustle of Poitier/Cosby, the retired detective J.E Jones, scoping the whole scene. They all play it out for a win, win. The ending sound. "A PIECE OF THE ACTION" CAN BE JAMMED TO ALL NIGHT NIGHT!!!!!!!
Caught this movie last night, on my streaming channel, I hadn't enjoyed a m movie more than this one. It brought back great memories of fun. Miss movies like this one.
One of my all time favorite endings for more than just the joy of the scene. I saw it when it came out, but twenty years later, I was a counselor at a youth camp for kids similar to those in the film. We had an end of summer dance and they pulled us teachers and counselors on the floor in a way that mirrored the above scene.

People that gave this a thumbs down either can't dance or don't like seeing Black people being positive.
I was thinking the same thing
It must be true then.
