JUST learned that this song is LITERALLY about Karen Wheeler 'dying' on the table, having an 'afterlife' experience and being brought 'Back 2 Life'! Knowing that gives this great song an even GREATER meaning! The lyrics hit different knowing she's petitioning The Most High to "do whatever He Wants" with her life!

Similar story with Stevie Wonder and his song Higher Ground. "I wrote Higher Ground even before the accident. [1973 car crash] But something must have been telling me that something was going to happen to make me aware of a lot of things and to get myself together. This is like my second chance for life, to do something or to do more, and to value the fact that I am alive."

To my big bro R.I.P. I remember you taking me to a party where they played this, it was a hot summer's night and a bbq in a huge garden. This had just been realised. The DJ kept playing the intro for at least ten minutes then saying, "hold on, rewind" playing it over and over again (we played musical statues every time the dj stopped the intro to rewind it again and again). We danced to this tune so hard (after all the dj made it last for almost 20 mins and it was pure record decks at the time). I played in the garden and house until early hours and then you gave me a piggy back home where mom was so vex with you because you kept me out so late- I would give anything to go back there now and this song will always remind me of you

The dancer's name is Wunmi! She was in my creative arts class at City & East London college, as an arts & fashion design student. I remember her quite well. Slim, stunning and extremely talented. The whole Soul 2 Soul movement came out of another movement called the Madhatters in North London, pioneered by Trevor Nelson, who became one of the UK's most notable DJ's. He was my school mate at Kingsway Princeton and we kick started house parties from my apartment & house in North London, all while in college. We loved what we called Rare Soul in the 80's. Before we all knew it, our movement spread across all of London and underground parties. Jazzy B used to DJ a lot and is also from my neck of the woods of Finsbury Park. I remember the last house party where Jazzy B was the DJ. Before we all know it, Soul II Soul was born and BOOM! That's the skinny from an incognito fellow. They used to call me Prince haha, because I dressed like him. I can tell you all, it was the greatest time to be alive for all of us in the 80's ❤

The song just resignated and left the 🚗 speakers and entered my SOUL. The base drop the violin. The vocals from Carolyn Wheeler! Ooo Wee! Hats Off to Jazzie B. Soul II Soul one of the best R&B bands from the UK. They came out the ring Swinging. A Knock Out Hit. What a song! What an Album! Great music never fades away!! It sure doesn't.

Being black and from the u.s. I always really enjoyed this band because there was something different about them. I mean now obviously I know it's because they're from the UK but they also had like some really connected Afrocentricity to them. It felt very genuine and authentic and not trendy like some of the Afrocentric groups that we had here
