as a metal head and punk fan, I sometimes sway away from my the music I like and enjoy gems like this song. this song could be instrumental and still be genius. the piano and the bass in the intro gives me goosebumps.
I like everything from the softest R&B (Jodeci, Mint Condition, Isleys) to the hardest Metal (Chimaira, Slayer, In Flames). Why can't people just like good music, regardless of genre?
Exactly. To me, it's not necessary to label music as this genre or that genre. The only thing that does is help to organize music in a record store. But even then, you could just put artists in alphabetical order...
You are absolutely right. I just Google it. Her name was Do'reen Wadell. When I read about it years ago in the paper, they did have Caron Wheeler as the deceased person. Next time I will research first. Thank for the correction
I honestly read "I've just had a chance to dance round the living room" the first time, and then I was like what??? )))) Yes, I agree, it was a brilliant era, and I also miss it every day!
Tribal Funk! This song trounces anything made in the last twenty years. The innovative rhythmic drum, clap track, and throbbing baseline changed music and still has heads shaking and asking "How!"

Christmas 1989 … Left the past; this song was playing on the way to the airport. It has ALWAYS remained my go to when starting a new chapter. Pushing 70, still standing and still playing my go to jam. 🥰
In all times people could sing. 🙄 My parents and grandparents would not have listen to this song. They would say that I shall liyten to "real music" where people could sing in the good old times. 😂 My grandma maybe would have said "not too bad" but every generation has its heroes. Stop talking like old people that everything was better in the old days. 😂 It was not.

This song is always going to make me think of 7th grade gym class. The class was split into groups, and each group had to do a dance routine. Almost everyone chose either this or Pump Up the Jam.
Tomorrow it will be 2022 and this jam right here sounds as Fresh as it did in 1989. I remember driving home to NJ IN 89 and I heard this on the Radio. The song just resignated and left the 🚗 speakers and entered my SOUL. The base drop the violin. The vocals from Carolyn Wheeler! Ooo Wee! Hats Off to Jazzie B. Soul II Soul one of the best R&B bands from the UK. They came out the ring Swinging. A Knock Out Hit. What a song! What an Album! Great music never fades away!! It sure doesn't.
Caron Wheeler killing it as she always did. She doesn't get enough credit for the amount of work she put in before Soul II Soul, working as vocalist for so many British acts, in all genres of music.
nope. this song wouldn't be popular today. it has absolutely no Auto-Tune, and the women are not only wearing clothes but some of them are displaying actual musical talent. we just can't have that today.
The reason it didn’t win more awards cause the was singing about self awareness and people desire us to stay killing each other and lose focus of who we are
This song is THE song that changed music from the 80's to the , at the time, modern 90's sound. Love this song and the acapella version is one of the best.
Played this for the kids a few years ago and they both loved the production. We ended up going down a rabbit hole of music from my past. The elder said to the younger, "Mom has great taste in music, eh?" and I swelled with parental pride.
Being black and from the u.s. I always really enjoyed this band because there was something different about them. I mean now obviously I know it's because they're from the UK but they also had like some really connected Afrocentricity to them. It felt very genuine and authentic and not trendy like some of the Afrocentric groups that we had here Oh, and I know the entire band wasn't black but you know what I meant LOL

as a metal head and punk fan, I sometimes sway away from my the music I like and enjoy gems like this song. this song could be instrumental and still be genius. the piano and the bass in the intro gives me goosebumps.
elsoda the hook does it for me. I've been saying back to life for my whole life
Why you jocking me? Everyone's just gonna feel sorry for you. I know I do.
Refreshing to hear that... I'm just the same, makes for an interesting record collection.
Damn. Whatever happened to Soul II Soul? They were amazing and had a very unique and distinctive sound.
Henry Reavis they're still around. You have to look.
to black? this is england not america!!!!! bell end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aisha Horsey It's Caron Wheeler and she's not dead.
You are absolutely right. I just Google it. Her name was Do'reen Wadell. When I read about it years ago in the paper, they did have Caron Wheeler as the deceased person. Next time I will research first. Thank for the correction
Such a sad story, so gifted.
Love her voice, love this song.
Happy new year 🎉

I will NEVER get tired of this song
Classic
Pesosluv NEVER!!
i know one time i woke up to it and it just made me happy!
Pesosluv same TBH
I NEVER get tired of this song! It’s eternal vibes…
Never
57 years old, I've just had a dance round the living room.
I've still GOT IT!!
Such a brilliant era, I miss it every day.
I honestly read "I've just had a chance to dance round the living room" the first time, and then I was like what??? )))) Yes, I agree, it was a brilliant era, and I also miss it every day!
Get it Tom yes you still GOT IT
66 here...
However! Great Post.
All you need to do is listen to the beautiful music 🎶 to get back. That and have a long walk outside in nature 💚💐☺️.Music is my medicine 🥰
What a voice and jazzy
I was 18 when this song came out. What a brilliant era. I blinked and now I’m 50. Such nostalgia this song brings me.
Same 💪
I was 17....uugghh good times 😩
I'm 18 right now, and I like it a lot
Don't worry kid I'm 60 and still loving it!
I'm 64 and still loving this song and an unbelievable era in my life. I feel very blessed.
They just don’t make music like this anymore. Seriously the best
Agree a thousand percent
Do you also like the track, colour of sun rays, epic track. X
@@tracynewton3083 totally agree ! It’s amazing
I DEFINITELY AGREE!!!
This is why i don't listen to any new music from the present nor watch any new movies, its all $h1t!
Tribal Funk! This song trounces anything made in the last twenty years. The innovative rhythmic drum, clap track, and throbbing baseline changed music and still has heads shaking and asking "How!"
this song crushed i cant believe its been 30 years
35 days without a drink! This makes me smile. Grateful as hell to be sober.
I hope you're still sober! Congrats. I know the feeling 💕💕💕
I'm in my 11th month it feels great winning that battle each day 🙏
Good job you guys, I'm coming up on a year and a half sober, don't really miss alcohol. Keep it up.
@@jegr3398 Day four again, but I'm here and each time I'm less attached like you would become less attached after each break up with the same toxic partner until one day you're officially done.
Congrats.
The people in this video are the most astonishingly beautiful people I have ever seen. The way they look, move..goddamn.
Right????
YES! Thank you. I can watch this over and over.
I agree. Where and when did we miss that fantastic party at the sunset ???
Laurie Outlaw Beautiful indeed, sexy as F* and fully clothed!
This song pops into my head every time I come home from a vacation or back to work after a long weekend. "Back to life, back to reality..." 😆
Me too
Same here!!!
haha me too! was just saying the exact same thing to my friend as we've just returned from holiday
I ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ this song
SAME, and I haven't heard this song since I was probably 10 (30 years ago). I thought it was lost in the abyss.
I just found out this song came about cause she almost died. In the song she's talking to God about why He allowed her to come back....powerful
Man I miss actual talent in the music industry. Nostalgia hitting hard with this one.
Yes, I was thinking the same thing!
Fr fr
We were saying the same thing when this dropped and 20 years from now we’ll be saying it about the present
Today music is complete garbage compared to 1980s.
@@tomascastillo4676 i mean this song aint THAT good.
My Lord, where have the years gone? Still sounds fresh, though!
this is my childhood. so many memories

I use to bump this song back in days. This was one my best jams
This song hits different when you learn that it is about a near death experience.. I hear it with different ears today

my feeling from 1992 the year my mom died
Christmas 1989 … Left the past; this song was playing on the way to the airport. It has ALWAYS remained my go to when starting a new chapter. Pushing 70, still standing and still playing my go to jam. 🥰
I never knew that, wow !!!...
Remember when music was great & people could actually sing..............?
Now it's all just Taylor Swift nonsense
Like it was yesterday. Today I couldn’t care less (unless I stumble across something accidentally).
@@harold3165All what you recognize is Taylor Swift because you are not up to date with music anymore. There is a lot more than only her but she is a superstar like Madonna, Bon Jovi, Beatles and so on.
Milli vanilli right?
So much culture in this video and song. I love it so much.
Everyone was doing so good for a minute. . The 90s after the first Bush and before the second were magic.
The fact she wrote this song to God after a near death experience where she was given a second chance makes it all that more powerful
She's flawless and has a flawless voice too
du siehst richtig geil aus. greetings from germany
these as we all know were some of the best songs made in the mighty 80s!
Hadn't seen the video since I was a kid and I forgot how gorgeous she is 😍
Her daughters not bad either ;-)

Back in the day . Nothing better ❤
Soul II Soul were 1989, they defined the year and this was incredible, a true masterpiece. Back to Life started a four week stay at number one in the UK this week exactly 30 years ago. I've got the single and album.
It was a great year, cool music and a great summer of fun i remember it well, the good old days of 1989.
M Eden they didn’t, there was far better bands and artists...
kelly shaw ya my mom was 9 she said it was fun summer movies that year like Ghostbusters II & Batman, Nightmare Elm St:Dream Child
@@JasonVoorhees-wn6co i went to see Batman opening night at the cinema, it was so full people were standing in the aisle's as they had over sold the tickets. I was 18 it was lots of fun back then.

32 years later, if you're watching this, you're a legend.
Absolutely 👌
You too bro 💯
Has it been 32 years? Strange, this chorus has been going through my head lately. I didn't look this song up, it just appeared under recommended. Brings back memories when I was young and carefree.
Look at the clip, it is timeless, sounds like it could have produced nowadays, 32 years woow
Still at it!!!!!! Was 5 when it released but still banger like a mf.
ols school music nothing better

Yes! Good ole days. Wish we could get them back.
Back in the 80s and 90s people used to dance so freely and carefree, what a superb song ❣️

Damn..it is 4:30 am and I can't turn this off. I miss this music. What have we become that quality soul/funk is missing from the air waves.
Wow it’s 4:46 am and I’m listening to this good music right now
Everything goes through me anyway 😂
Ikr! Those beautiful days were something else! We all had no idea what we were gonna be missing as you got older! I grew up to these songs too! Miss them and the vibe of culture and society back then. More innocent, spontaneous, open and loving
Amen. I'm even white and this music is Part of my Soul. Born 75
It’s crazy how a song can immediately take you back to a life that is long gone.
The memory doesn't go though, that's the beautiful thing.
Life goes on and we have this music, gurl, let's enjoy!!
Sheels1976 yep takes me back to ‘89 that starting as my girlfriend then wife.
This song is always going to make me think of 7th grade gym class. The class was split into groups, and each group had to do a dance routine. Almost everyone chose either this or Pump Up the Jam.
FACTS! This song brings back sooooo many memories. GREAT ones!
Dance floor immediately packed as soon as the first note drops...timeless classic.
Yup!😀😂
YEAH BABY!!!
True that 😃
😫 PLEASE BRING BACK REAL MUSIC LIKE THIS ✊🏾
Please do songs now boring..need more of this 🙏

One of the best ever
Released in 1989, almost 2 years before the 90s even started.
@@gustavmeyrink_2.0 if it was released in 89 it had to be eleven months at the most before the 90s ffs

Yessss honey was on my mind!!! Good days.
It sure doesn't.
that´s the attitude dude!! yeah right!!
I hear you fam Soul 2 Soul was killing in Jersey in the late 80s!
1988
@@edwardozuna6706 Yes I remember it well, lots of airplay and cars bumping it.
It was the same vibe on the other side of the tunnel.
1989 and the 90s music was fantastic no matter what race you were. Everybody loved each other back then.. now the world is screwed
Caron Wheeler killing it as she always did. She doesn't get enough credit for the amount of work she put in before Soul II Soul, working as vocalist for so many British acts, in all genres of music.
Agree 👍👍
@@jonnyhartman2441 amen
Yep she sang back vocals for the 1985 hit by British Artist Howard Jones " Things can only get better".
This is timeless. Could release today and blow up the charts.
The charts are pretty boring right now so this would be like a shock to the current music system. Lol
I just hope they don't remake it with some lame new replacements
No way. kids don't have the musical taste.
nope. this song wouldn't be popular today. it has absolutely no Auto-Tune, and the women are not only wearing clothes but some of them are displaying actual musical talent. we just can't have that today.
@@thebeardedseeker5633 you've made me laugh out loud. 😄
The beat production is crazy on this how did this not win more awards
The reason it didn’t win more awards cause the was singing about self awareness and people desire us to stay killing each other and lose focus of who we are
@@raybrown6597 wtf are you talking about??
This video shaped my whole aesthetic. You could drop all these people in 2024 and they would still be fly.
My teenage life was fun because of good music like this....too bad the young people of today missed out on good music like this when it was new.......
Good thing we have UA-cam.
Thank God for UA-cam

This song is THE song that changed music from the 80's to the , at the time, modern 90's sound. Love this song and the acapella version is one of the best.

New Jack Swing era
Yes, it was ahead of its time
True!
Played this for the kids a few years ago and they both loved the production. We ended up going down a rabbit hole of music from my past. The elder said to the younger, "Mom has great taste in music, eh?" and I swelled with parental pride.
Awesome 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Ditto
My 4 year old daughter likes 80's and 90's Metallica and asks for me to replay their songs after they end. I also swelled w/ pride :)
You do!
I know that’s right ❤️
This song is still the jam in 2024/2025 & beyond. Good music 🎶 last a lifetime. 💖
when we had soul in our soul
Yep
Being black and from the u.s. I always really enjoyed this band because there was something different about them. I mean now obviously I know it's because they're from the UK but they also had like some really connected Afrocentricity to them. It felt very genuine and authentic and not trendy like some of the Afrocentric groups that we had here
Oh, and I know the entire band wasn't black but you know what I meant LOL
Now it's codeine for sum....😲😲😲😲😲😲
Great description !
Miguel Jackson Now we don’t even have a soul.
