    Oh my goodness. At least my guy chose a soft piece of banded slate to drill through. The neat part of Ben’s find is confirmation they used a hollow drilling instrument. I can’t imagine drilling through a piece of granite or gneiss material. It’s a beautiful example. Thanks for sharing a rare find.

      You are right. I've seen two other incomplete examples with the nipple being an inch or so long inside. Amazing how much work went into some of the natives tools. Happy to share and thank you.

    GREAT artifact my friends. The material is beautiful. With tools that have difficulties it is difficult to create something like this. What they used the BANNERSTONE for. GREETINGS AND BLESSINGS a great team.

    Looks like Ben had a heck of a day. First a blade. Then found that Killer Bannerstone !!! That is a killer. Drilled all the way or just a little. Just crazy how they core drilled hardstone.
    Bennie's find of that bifurcated point. Its a smoker. Is that a Pine tree?
    You all together found some really nice artifacts. Thanks for taking us along with you. I needed it.
    Tell everyone I said hello. God bless you all. I hope to see you all soon.

    Heck yeah! Killer finds! That Bannerstone is sweet. I’ve got a Bar amulet that is 3/4 drilled on one end and just started on the other. Always cool to see the way they drilled through granite.

    • @actionjacksonartifactsandb877
      @actionjacksonartifactsandb877  4 роки тому

      Wouldn’t it be cool to know the story.of “why” didn’t they get to finish the relic. I think it makes it even more interesting, just like your amulet. Thank you.

    What an awesome bannerstone. The material is beautiful. Hard to imagine the amount of time spent getting it to that point . Unfinished banners are rarer finds than finished or damaged pieces. What was that bifurcated piece Benny found ? Good to see you guys out having a good time finding some artifacts. Thanks for sharing Jack . I hope you all have continued success and take care .

    • @actionjacksonartifactsandb877
      @actionjacksonartifactsandb877  4 роки тому +2

      Ben's very happy with his find as well he should be. Years ago he found a drilled boatstone made from the same material, but it had some plow damage. The piece Benny found has a lot of pinetree characteristics. Great to hear from you.

    That small point makes me wonder about the diameter of the shaft it was hafted to. I know many of the points vary in age but did they have a whole different setup to propel that small point .

    • @actionjacksonartifactsandb877
      @actionjacksonartifactsandb877  4 роки тому +1

      The small triangular points are referred to as Madison’s in our area, and are Mississippian in time period. They are true”arrowheads”,and would have been used with a Bow and arrow instead of the older dart points used on the Atlatl. I would think that the reed or cane used to haft would have to be pretty narrow to penetrate a target with such a small arrow. Take care.

      We agree.

    • @richcook9669
      @richcook9669 4 роки тому

      I would maybe think they drilled them last because it was the longest, hardest part of the job. If they were happy with the results of everything else then they would drill it.

    😳😳😳, congrats, one fine hardstone artifact, wouldn’t ya love to go back in time to see why it wasn’t finished, anyone researched how long the drilling process took?

    • @actionjacksonartifactsandb877
      @actionjacksonartifactsandb877  4 роки тому +1

      The story of why it wasn't finished makes it very interesting. Archaic Bannerstones are rare finds in our area, but we find alot of Atlatl dart points here. Without modern tools it would have taken a while to drill through hardstone, especially when they used sand and hollow cane or reed. I've said before that I would love to go back in time and see how they lived and made things, but I wouldn't want to stay to long, I like my modern conveniences too much. Thank you.
