  • A look at some extraordinary artifacts from Kentucky,Ohio,Tennessee,Indiana,Missouri and Michigan. These Artifacts have been collected and passed on by some of the most famous names in prehistoric artifacts, and I can’t forget to mention these artifacts have been published many times. It took Charlie over 60 years to put this wonderful collection together. It was an honor to visit a man with the passion and knowledge of Charlie.

    I’m from eastern Kentucky and I had no idea that type stuff was found in this state. I live in the county next to London where the guy was using that bowl to water his dog. That’s so great and what a collection that man has and the stories.

    • @actionjacksonartifactsandb877
      @actionjacksonartifactsandb877  4 роки тому

      KY is very rich in Native American artifacts, but a lot of those artifacts were found in surrounding states. I recall reading a story in the Central States Archaeological Journal about a man that was watering his dog out of a large Native American made stone bowl. Didn’t realize that was in KY. Yes sir, Charlie has an incredible collection and has a great memory. He keeps notes rolled up on paper and tucks them in places on certain artifacts, but he doesn’t have to look at the notes too often. Thank you.

    Now I can finally comment! Almost a year ago or so you filmed this... great show and talk of it all. Make sure you stretch yourself to keep these kinds of videos going sometimes! I know I worked hard on doing a Heritage Series and a few other series which folks loved! You have too many good collectors and too much good stuff not to revisit it sometimes for so many who will never be able to go to a museum OR a show. Consider!

    • @actionjacksonartifactsandb877
      @actionjacksonartifactsandb877  4 роки тому

      Very true, some people will never get to see these works of prehistoric art unless we share them. I plan on doing more video's with other collectors in my area in the near future, although in Charlie's case, most of his artifacts come from old time collectors and have been published many times.

    • @actionjacksonartifactsandb877
      @actionjacksonartifactsandb877  4 роки тому

      Never heard of a “ceremonial X axe”. Are you referring to the Bannerstone that’s in the shape of an X?

    • @tobinbaker4837
      @tobinbaker4837 4 роки тому

      @@actionjacksonartifactsandb877 from what i understand, those were not bannerstones, but we're attached too the end of a handle and decorated and used in ritual dance and ceremonies. If that's a bannerstone, then he's spinning a Sequoia sapling with it. Has to weigh atleast 3-5lbs. Especially the larger thicker ones he has.

    • @tobinbaker4837
      @tobinbaker4837 4 роки тому

      Now that i recall the conversation with the old man, they were attatched to a short handle, or long spear poles and used in burial rituals, burials as offerings, ceremonies, etc. Its been 20 plus years that I had this conversation with him. As far as the term "bannerstone" it was term first derived for artifacts that were "archeologicially problematic" and from what i understand now, their exact use is still not 100% clear. I know some were used in pump drills and bow drillls, and atlatle weights, so i suppose what we have is a misunderstanding here. I recalled the short handle axe at first. But i was only referring to the X ,ƆC, shaped ones.

    • @actionjacksonartifactsandb877
      @actionjacksonartifactsandb877  4 роки тому +3

      tobin baker Tha artifacts your referring to are called double crescent banners tones. Authentic examples are extremely rare. Refer to Prehistoric American magazine, volume XXXVI, number 2, 2002, or check out “ The Archaic Bannerstone” by Lutz. We cannot go back in time and tell for certain what some were used for, so for you to believe a story that they were attached to a handle for ceremonies is just speculation, We know most are counterweights for Atlatl’s because several examples have been found in caves with intact handles and hooks. Just because a man in Georgia says only 3 exist doesn’t mean anything. There could be several more stored away in people’s homes that a farmer found and they might not know what it is. Hope the books help.
